볏짚시용(施用)을 위한 답토양(畓土壤) 적지시험(適地試驗)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Studies on the Suitable Paddy Soil for Application of Rice Straw)

  • 볏짚시용적지(施用適地)를 구명(究明)하기 위하여 전국(全國) 17개(個) 농가포장(農家圃場)과 현지(現地) 포장토양(圃場土壤)을 채취(採取) 실내(室內)에서 항온시험(恒溫試驗)한 결과(結果) 포장(圃場)에서는 배수양호(排水良好)하며 볏짚을 시용(施用)하므로써 토양환원(土壤還元) 발달(發達)이 무시용구(無施用區)보다 높은 토양(土壤)에서 수도수량(水稻收量) 및 수량구성요소(收量構成要素)가 증가(增加)되었다. 실내(室內) 시험(試驗)에서는 배수양호(排水良好)하며 볏짚시용(施用)으로 환원발달(還元發達)이 양호(良好)한 토양(土壤)에서 규산(珪酸), 가리(加里), 석회(石灰) 등(等)의 유효양분(有效養分)이 증가(增加)되었으며 또한 토양중(土壤中) 인산(燐酸)의 유효도(有效度)와 토양환원발달(土壤還元發達)과는 정상관(正相關) 관계(關係)를 보였다. 그러나 배수불량(排水不良)하며 볏짚을 시용(施用)하더라도 무시용구(無施用區)와 환원발달차(還元發達差)가 현저(顯著)하지 못한 답토양(畓土壤)에서는 토양(土壤) 무기성분(無機成分) 및 인산(燐酸)의 유효도(有效度) 증가(增加)는 현저(顯著)하지 못하였다. 이상(以上)의 결과(結果) 볏짚시용(施用) 적지(適地) 선정(選定)시는 토양(土壤)의 배수정도(排水程度)와 토양환원(土壤還元) 발달정도(發達程度)를 기초(基礎)로 실시(實施)되어야 할 것으로 생각된다.

삼천포와 서천 화력발전소에서 발생하는 석탄회중의 중금속 함량에 관한 연구 (Content of Heavy Metals in Coal Fly Ash from the Samcheonpo and the Seocheon Power Plant)

  • Coal fly ashes collected from the Samcheonpo and the Seocheon Power Plants were analyzed for major and minor components and heavy metals such as As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ga, Hg, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sb, V and Zn in order to suggest basic data to apply coal fly ash as fertilizer or soil ameliorator. The specific gravity of the samples was less than 2.0, and amounts of organic matter range from 5.0% to 12.3%. The identified minerals by XRD were mainly quartz, mullite and pyrite in anthracite coal, and mainly quartz and mullite in bituminous coal. Generally, the contents of heavy metal elements analyzed were lower less than those of soil, though higher in some samples. Element couples of some elements( e.g., As-Mo, Zn ; Mo-As, Sb, V, Zn ; Sb-Zn ) show positive correlations with each other, but the high correlations of toxic elements such as As, Pb, Cd and Hg indicate to give attention to apply coal fly ash as fertilizer or soil ameliorator.

Effect of clay mineral types on the strength and microstructure properties of soft clay soils stabilized by epoxy resin

  • Soft clay soils due to their various geotechnical problems, stabilized with different additives. Traditional additives such as cement and lime will not able to increase the soil strength properties significantly. So, it seems necessary to use new additives for increasing strength parameters of soft clay soils significantly. Among the new additives, epoxy resins have excellent physical and mechanical properties, low shrinkage, excellent resistance to chemicals and corrosive materials, etc. So, in this research, epoxy resin used for stabilization of soft clay soils. For comprehensive study, three clay soil samples with different PI and various clay mineral types were studied. A series of uniaxial tests, SEM and XRD analysis conducted on the samples. The results show that using epoxy resin increases the strength parameters such as UCS, elastic modulus and material toughness about 100 to 500 times which the increase was dependent on the type of clay minerals type in the soil. Also, In addition to water conservation, the best efficiency in the weakest and most sensitive soils is the prominent results of stabilization by epoxy resin which can be used in different climatic zones, especially in hot and dry and equatorial climate which will be faced with water scarcity.

Evaluation of Macro Mineral Contents of Forages: Influence of Pasture and Seasonal Variation

  • Concentrations of major elements in forages were determined in relation to ruminant requirements at a livestock experimental station in Leiah district, Punjab-Pakistan using mapping techniques. The study investigated the influence of sampling periods and pasture types on the concentrations of calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium in forages. The implications of these forages for nutrition of ruminants were assessed for the livestock population at that particular experimental station, which are supported by the farm pastures. Within the farm, variations in the element status of the forages were related to soil pasture types. A tentative assessment of the mineral status of available forages at this farm for different pastures using guidelines developed for domestic animals indicated deficiencies of only Na, but forages contained adequate Ca, Mg, and K levels required for grazing ruminants. The concentrations of Na in the forage reserves indicated that the potential supply of this element to plants was limited from the soil to plants and from plants to the animals grazing them. Soil minerals were not measured in this study. The potential use of fertilizers, as pasture amendment as well as supplementation of ruminants, with a specifically tailored mineral mixture is important to livestock producers and environmentalists as well, because their use may improve forage nutritive value and in turn meet requirements of animals.

중금속의 토양 오염: 한국중부지역의 농경지를 중심으로 (The Concentration of Heavy Metals in Some Agricultural Soils of Central Korea)

  • To assess soil distribution patterns of heavy metals in agricultural environments, we have measured the concentrations of six metals from surficial soils of three different groups divided on the basis of the surrounding environment: (1) soil group I-cultivated soils within the purely agricultural regions, (2) soil group II-both cultivated and uncultivated soils near various livelihood facilities, and (3) soil group III-mainly cultivated soils near major polluting sources. The mean concentrations for the three soil groups were found in the range as follows: 0.12~0.15 (Cd), 4.94~6.08 (Pb), 0.05~0.11 (Hg), 2.82~3.50 (Cu), 4.69~7.82 (Zn), and 0.36~0.78 (As) ppm. Examination of data distribution trends indicates that the concentrations determined from the relatively unpolluted soil environs (groups I and II) were comparable not only between each other but also with those reported previously in background soil environs of Korea. The concentration data for the soil group III were however found to be much higher than the rest two groups. Unlike the direct comparison of the magnitudes of concentrations, results of a regression analysis exhibited much different patterns: it was seen that the correlation patterns for soil group I were rather analogous to those of soil group III. The similarities in correlation patterns between groups I and III along with the lack of correlations in soil group II suggest that soil characteristics such as whether being cultivated or not are important factors affecting soil distributions of heavy metals.

  • In this study, electrochemical characteristics variation and removal efficiency with initial pH and mineral compositions during electrokinetic remediation of lead contaminated soils were investigated. Test results showed that heavy metal transportation affected by soil characteristics and electrochemical characteristics varied during electrokinetic remediation. Therefore, in the application of enhanced electrokinetic remediation technique to increase removal efficiency, discrete selection of enhanced technique with characteristics of targeted soil were needed.

Monoculture and Mixture Effects of Green Manure Crops on Soil Quality, Weed Suppression and Organic Red-pepper Production

  • Organic farming is rapidly expanding worldwide. Crop growth in organic systems greatly depends on the functions performed by soil microbes, and nutrient supply weed suppression by green manure crops input. Four red-pepper production systems were compared: 1) bare ground (conventional system); 2) hairy vetch monoculture; 3) rye monoculture; and 4) hairy vetch-rye mixture. Soil inorganic N reached the peak at 30 DAI and hairy vetch monoculture was the highest ($192mg\;kg^{-1}$) and soil total carbon was fluctuated sporadically during the experiment. Carbohydrate and phenolic compounds in soil kept significantly higher in green manure crops systems from 10 DBI to 30 DAI, however the level was the maximum at 10 DBI (carbohydrate) and 30 DAI (phenolic comounds). Incorporation of green manure crops residue enhanced soil microbial biomass C and N throughout the growing season except that MBN in rye was reduced after incorporation. Green manure crops systems suppressed weed occurrence and, in particular, it was prominent in rye monoculture. Mineral elements composition and production in red-pepper fruits were markedly decreased in green manure crops systems although hairy vetch monoculture has come close to bare ground (NPK-applied). Therefore, it was suggested that higher biomass production should be performed not only to improve soil quality and suppress weeds but to yield suitable red-pepper fruits in green manure crops-based organic farming.

  • When subsurface is polluted, contaminants tend to migrate through groundwater flow path. The groundwater flow path is highly dependent upon underground geological structures in the contaminated area. Geophysical survey is an useful tool to identify subsurface geological structure. In addition, geophysical logging in a borehole precisely provides detailed information about geological characteristics in vicinity of the borehole, including fractures, lithology, and groundwater level. In this work, surface seismic refraction and electrical resistivity surveys were conducted in a test site located in Namyangju city, South Korea, along with well logging tests in five boreholes installed in the site. Geophysical data and well logging data were collected and processed to construct an 3D geological map in the site.

고추재배에서 토성별 토양수분, 토양온도, 무기태 질소 변화에 따른 온실가스배출 평가 (Evaluation of Green House Gases Emissions According to Changes of Soil Water Content, Soil Temperature and Mineral N with Different Soil Texture in Pepper Cultivation)

  • 농경지에서 발생되는 온실가스인 $CH_4$, $N_2O$의 배출제어 기술을 구명하기 위하여 수원시에 위치한 국립농업과학원 기후변화생태과 시험포장에서 온실가스 배출시험을 수행하였다. 고추밭에서 토성과 토양수분에 의한 온실가스배출 시험은 2004~2005년 2년간 고추 재배를 하여, 질소를 시용하지 않는 PK와 NPK+ 돈분퇴비 등으로 시비처리를 하였고 온실가스배출에영향을 주는 토양수분, 토양온도 그리고 무기태 질소($NH{_4}^+$, $NO{_3}^-$) 등 관련 요인별로 온실가스배출량을 측정하였다. 이와 같이 밭에서 온실가스 배출에 미치는 영향을 조사하여 온실가스 관리에 필요한 기초 자료로 활용하기 위해 시험한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 토성에 따른 $N_2O$ 배출량은 식양토에 비해 사양토에서 74.0~82.1% 적었고, 토양 수분장력 -30 kPa보다 -50 kPa에서 식양토는 13.2%, 사양토는 40.2%가 적었다. 2) $CH_4$ 배출은 식양토에 비해 사양토에서 45.7~61.6%, 그리고 수분장력에 따라 -30kPa보다 -50kPa에서 식양토 69.6%, 사양토 55.8%가 적었다. 3) $N_2O$ 배출에 영향을 미치는 요인은 식양토에서 무기태질소 (51.2%), 토양온도 (25.8%), 토양수분함량 (23.0%), 그리고 사양토에서는 토양수분함량 (39.3%), 토양온도 (36.4%), 무기태질소 (24.3%) 순으로 나타났으며, 식양토에 비해 사양토에서 $N_2O$ 배출에 대한 무기태질소의 기여도가 낮았다.

  • 여섯가지 성질이 다른 토양에 PCP 흡착실험(吸着實驗)을 습식진탕법(濕式振湯法)으로 행한 결과(結果)는 다음과 같았다. 1) PCP 흡착(吸着)을 지배(支配)하는 주요인(主要因)은 토양(土壤) pH이다. 2) 유기물함량(有機物含量)이 많을수록 PCP의 흡착량(吸着量)이 증가(增加)된다. 3) PCP 흡착량(吸着量)은 토양내(土壤內) 결정성(結晶性) 점토광물(粘土鑛物)의 종류(種類)와는 관계(關係)가 적었다.
