The soil erosion processes have estimated using spatial distribution of 137Cs radionuclide in Granite and Sedimentary Hillslopes in South Korea. The local variability of 137Cs inventory indicates that was related positively to organic matter content, clay content and water content and negatively to hydraulic permeability and slope gradient for bulk samples in different landforms within Granite and Sedimentary rock basins. The vertical variability of 137Cs inventory shows that most of 137Cs concentration and organic matter were accumulated between 0 and 2cms and gradually decrease with soil depth in incremental samples in both basins. The vertical variability of 137Cs inventories shows that 137Csinventories increase as we go to toward downslope in both basins. Finally, the soil loss values indicate that hillslope erosion processes are more intensive in Granite rock basin than those in Sedimentary rock basin.

Decision of available soil depth based on soil physical and hydraulic properties for the $3^{rd}$ Landscape Vegetation Project in the Incheon International Airport was attempted. The soil samples were collected from the 8 sites at different depths, 0-20 and 20-60cm, for the three project fields, A, B, and C area. Physical and chemical properties including particle size distribution, organic matter content and electrical conductivity were analyzed. Hydrological properties including bulk density and water holding capacity at different water potential, -6 kPa, -10 kPa, -33 kPa, and -1500 kPa were calculated by SPAW model of Saxton and Rawls (2006), and air entry value was calculated by Campbell model (1985). Based on physical and hydrological limitation, feasibility and design criteria of soil depth for vegetation and landfill were recommended. Since the soil salinity of the soil in area A area was $19.18dS\;m^{-1}$ in top soil and $22.27dS\;m^{-1}$ in deep soil, respectively, landscape vegetation without amendment would not be possible on this area. Available soil depth required for vegetation was 2.51 m that would secure root zone water holding capacity, capillary fringe, and porosity. Available soil depth required for landscape vegetation of the B area soil was 1.51 m including capillary fringe 0.14 m and available depth for 10% porosity 1.35 m. The soils in this area were feasible for landscape vegetation. The soil in area C was feasible for bottom fill purpose only due to low water holding capacity.
This study developed preliminary assessment methodology for priority listing of soil and groundwater contamination sources, considering source characteristics, local environments and risk receptors. Source characteristics were evaluated by scoring relative risk of contamination sources. Local environments were evaluated by scoring annual rainfall, hydraulic conductivity of aquifer, and annual groundwater use. Risk receptors were evaluated by scoring local population, direct distance to surface water, direct distance to drinking-water wells. Scores of each parameter were allocated by analysing distribution of parameter values obtained from government databases. Distributed scores of source characteristics local environments: risk receptors were 12 : 12 : 12. The preliminary assessment scored 0 to 36 for each soil and groundwater sources. Inventory of soil and groundwater sources consisted of 7 categories. This study applied the preliminary assessment methodology to Manan-Gu, Anyang City, Korea. The number of car repair and washing facility was the largest in the contamination source inventory. Petroleum storage facilities showed the highest assessment score. The preliminary assessment methodology also indicated that Anyang-Dong was the priority section among Anyang-Dong, Suksu-Dong, Bakdal-Dong. This study is the first trial for relative ranking soil and groundwater contamination sources by considering source and local characteristics. Therefore, further researches and revision of the preliminary assessment methodology need to be pursued for various applications.
National inventory of soil and groundwater contamination is an efficient decision-making tool to identify and manage existing or potential contaminated sources and contaminants. It has been used as basic data for establishing the scheme of regulations and remediation plans of soil and groundwater contamination in developed countries. This study examined classification of existing or potential sources of soil and groundwater contamination from various countries to suggest implications that required for development of classification of soil and groundwater contamination sources in Korea. Each country has provided a list of currently or potentially contaminating activities or landuses and identified some of the potential contaminants related to those contamination sources. Consideration of sources which had not been mentioned or regarded as contamination sources before was suggested for Korea situation. In addition, it is necessary to compile a list of existing data and information as much as possible to develop a detailed and practical list of various contamination sources.
Landslide is one of the natural hazards, triggered by rainfall or earthquake and it leads to damage and loss of properties and lives especially in hilly and mountainous regions. Inventory maps of the area is of much importance in order to understand the landslide phenomena in detail, conduct further studies on landslide, prepare susceptibility map and minimize risk. Inventory maps of landslides can be constructed by several methods, using multiple images through visual interpretation, using algorithms in multi-spectral or SAR images or verification from field investigation. The possible methods were explored for Sindhupalchowk district of Nepal, which was struck by massive earthquake on 2015 and landslide inventory was prepared. The inventory was analyzed for its frequency over elevation, slope aspect and dominant soil classes and also the information value for their occurrence probability.
Constructing the national inventory that can be used as a tool to identify and assess existing or potential contamination is necessary for efficiently managing the soil and groundwater contamination. In order to start this construction, the first step is how we define and classify potential contamination sources of soil and groundwater. After selecting the basic classification model of contamination sources from developed countries, we suggested the classification and list of the potential contamination sources of soil and groundwater which are appropriate for specific conditions of South Korea. In addition, we investigated several databases to confirm the existence of available data sources and then examined established attribute data through chemical accident response information system (CARIS) and water information system (WIS) in National Institute of Environmental Research and mine geographic information system (MGIS) in Mine Reclamation Corporation. All sorts of attribute data in the existing databases can be utilized as significant assessment factors for determining the management priority of potential contamination sources in the future. Therefore, it is required the expanded investigation of additional database sources and the continual modification so that the classification system of potential contamination sources can be improved.
The present study is an attempt to give an account of the inventory of plant species, phytosociological characteristics of vegetation and pedological characteristics of Rambi Beat Forest under Senchal East Forest Zone, Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. Its plant community were analyzed quantitatively and synthetically. The results reflect dominancy of dicotyledons over monocotyledons in the four studied sites The plant community comprising of 50 plant species belonging to 40 genera of 27 families. Ramhi beat reflected higher diversity of species. Maximum IVI value was recorded by Viola surpense (47.17) in Rambhi forest beat. The Berger parker index and evenness index were found to be highest for Viola surpense, Fragaria nubicola, Pilea umbrosa in Rambhi beat. The soil characteristics of the different pedons revealed alkaline nature of soil in Rambhi beat. Higher levels of soil organic carbon content reflect higher fertility of the soil of Rambhi beat. The response towards soil available nitrogen and phosphate were different among the ten pedons of Rambhi beat. Therefore, proper management and conservative measures needs to be implemented for conservation of bioresources in Senchel wildlife Sanctuary of West Bengal, India.

Land-use change matrix data is important for calculating the LULUCF (land use, land use change and forestry) sector of the national greenhouse gas inventory. In this study, land cover changes in 2004 and 2019 were compared using the Wall-to-Wall technique with a land cover map of Sejong City from the Ministry of Environment. Sejong City was classified into six land use classes according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) guidelines: Forest land, crop land, grassland, wetland, settlement and other land. The coordinate system of the land cover maps of 2004 and 2019 were harmonized and the land use was reclassified. The results indicate that during the 15 years from 2004 to 2019 forestlands and croplands decreased from 50.4% (234.2 ㎢) and 34.6% (161.0 ㎢) to 43.4% (201.7 ㎢) and 20.7% (96.2 ㎢), respectively, while Settlement and Other land area increased significantly from 8.9% (41.1 ㎢) and 1.4% (6.9 ㎢) to 35.6% (119.0 ㎢) and 6.5% (30.3 ㎢). 79.㎢ of cropland area (96.2 ㎢) in 2019 was maintained as cropland, and 8.8 ㎢, 1.7 ㎢, 0.5 ㎢, 5.4 ㎢, and 0.4 ㎢ were converted from forestland, grassland, wetland, and settlement, respectively. This research, however, is subject to several limitations. The uncertainty of the land use change matrix when using the wall-to-wall technique depends on the accuracy of the utilized land cover map. Also, the land cover maps have different resolutions and different classification criteria for each production period. Despite these limitations, creating a land use change matrix using the Wall-to-Wall technique with a Land cover map has great advantages of saving time and money.
According to the annual emission estimates of U.S.A., fugitive dust, the particulate matter entrained in the ambient air which is caused from man-made or natural activities such as movement of soil, vehicles, equipments and windblown dust, contributes 90% of PM$_{10}$ emission. In spite of an importance of fugitive dust emission in PM$_{10}$ estimation, it is excluded in the national emission inventory of Korea so far. In this paper, an emission inventory of fugitive dust for each region and in major cities throughout the country, which is the first time in Korea these values have been compiled, is presented. Sources of fugitive dust emission have been classified into paved/unpaved roads, construction operations, agricultural operations, and natural sources. The emission factors of the existing fugitive dust emission were reassessed in a way that significantly improved the reliability of the estimated result. The Korea's first national emission inventory of fugitive dust by administrative districts proposed in this paper would provide scientific reference data for establishing an reduction strategy of PM$_{10}$ and preparing effective control measures, and would contribute to academic achievement in the atmospheric environments field and the establishment of CAPSS (Clean Air Policy Support System).stem).
또한 Lithic Ustorthents(40%), Typic Ustorthents(26%)의 분포를 나타내었다. 앞으로도 대상지역에 대한 토양자원에 대한 지속적인 연구가 요구되며 이를 통하여 토양에 대한 많은 정보를 활용할 수 있을 것이다.
