Precise counting of cell number stands in important position within clinical and research laboratories. Conventional methods such as hemocytometer, migration/invasion assay, or automated cell counters have limited in analytical time, cost, and accuracy., which needs an alternative way with time-efficient in-situ approach to broaden the application avenue. Here, we present simple coding-based cell counting method using image analysis tool, freely available image software (ImageJ). Firstly, we encapsulated RFP-expressing bacteria in a droplet using microfluidic device and automatically performed fluorescence image-based analysis for the quantification of cell numbers. Also, time-lapse images were captured for tracking the change of cell numbers in a droplet containing different concentrations of antibiotics. This study confirms that our approach is approximately 15 times faster and provides more accurate number of cells in a droplet than the external analysis program method. We envision that it can be used to the development of high-throughput image-based cell counting analysis.

The National Institute of Special Education developed and distributed software textbooks for disabled students according to the necessity of practical course in elementary school and information in middle school in the 2015 revised curriculum. It is a textbook provided from the perspective of education opportunity equity but the content of programming education for visually impaired students was insufficient. Therefore this study was conducted for the purpose of confirming the effectiveness of programming education for visual impaired students and providing the direction of future programming education. In order to achieve the purpose, programming classes were conducted for blind students in the 6th grade of elementary school. As a result of a study using "Blocks4All", a block-based programming tool with robots, students participated in classes actively and efficacy, intrest, and usefulness of programming are high. This study is meaningful in that it confirmed the possibility of programming education for visually impaired students.

Due to the recent pandemic, most educational systems are being conducted through online classes. Unlike face-to-face classes, it is even more difficult for learners to maintain concentration, and evaluating the learners' attitude toward the class is also challenging. In this paper, we proposed a real-time concentration-based review support system for learners in real-time video lectures that can be used in online classes. This system measured the learner's face, pupils, and user activity in real-time using the equipment used in the existing video system, and delivers real-time concentration measurement values to the instructor in various forms. At the same time, if the concentration measurement value falls below a certain level, the system alerted the learner and records the timestamp of the lecture. By using this system, instructors can evaluate the learners' participation in the class in real-time and help to improve their class abilities.
Beam-column joints are a critical component of reinforced concrete frame structures. They are responsible for transferring forces between adjoining beams and columns while limiting story drifts and maintaining structural integrity. During severe loading, beam-column joints deform significantly, affecting, and sometimes governing, the overall response of frame structures. While most failure modes for beam and column elements are commonly considered in plastic-hinge-based global frame analyses, the beam-column joint failure modes, such as concrete shear and reinforcement bond slip, are frequently omitted. One reason for this is the dearth of published guidance on what type of hinges to use, how to derive the joint hinge properties, and where to place these hinges. Many beam-column joint models are available in literature but their adoption by practicing structural engineers has been limited due to their complex nature and lack of practical application tools. The objective of this study is to provide a comparative review of the available beam-column joint models and present a practical joint modeling approach for integration into commonly used global frame analysis software. The presented modeling approach uses rotational spring models and is capable of modeling both interior and exterior joints with or without transverse reinforcement. A spreadsheet tool is also developed to execute the mathematical calculations and derive the shear stress-strain and moment-rotation curves ready for inputting into the global frame analysis. The application of the approach is presented by modeling a beam column joint specimen which was tested experimentally. Important modeling considerations are also presented to assist practitioners in properly modeling beam-column joints in frame analyses.

Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of neck and shoulder self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media on neck pain, postural alignment, and joint position error in women with chronic neck pain. Methods: The subjects included 20 women that gave consent to participate in the study voluntarily. They performed the self-stretching exercises using audiovisual media was carried out 20 minutes 5 times a week during 3 weeks. Neck disability index (NDI) and visual analogue scale (VAS) were used to measure the functional disability and pain, A pressure pain threshold was measured using an algometer, and a cervical range of motion (CROM) measurement tool was used to measure the range of motion and error of proprioceptive position sense of the cervical spine. To assess posture alignment, forward head angle (FHA), forward shoulder angle (FSA) were measured using image J software. Results: The neck pain intensity was statistically significantly within group (p<.05). Neck and shoulder functional disability were a statistically significant difference within group (p<.05). Splenius capitis and upper trapezius pressure pain threshold were statistically significant difference in within group (p<.05). The postural alignment was statistically significantly within group (p<.05). The cervical range of motion in neck extension, right and left lateral flexion were statistically significantly within group (p<.05). The joint position error in neck flexion, extension, right and left lateral flexion decreased statistically significantly within group (p<.05). Conclusion: Self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media increased the mobility of the neck, decreased neck pain and joint position error, and improved posture alignment. As a result, there was a positive effect by applying the self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media to people with neck pain. Based on this, it is thought that it can be used as the basis for research related to home training programs for healthy self-management.

GPS is an essential tool for applications that be required high positioning precision, for the velocity field estimation of tectonic plates. The three years data of eight GPS permanent station were analyzed to estimate crustal deformation velocities using Gipsy-oasis II software. The velocity vectors of GPS stations are estimated by linear regression method in daily solution time series. The velocities have a standard deviation of less than 0.1mm/yr and the magnitude of velocities given by the Korean GPS permanent stations were very small, ranging from 25.1 to 31.1 mm/yr. The comparison between the final solution and other sources, such as IGS velocity result calculated from SOPAC was accomplished and the results generally show good agreement for magnitude and direction in crustal motion. To evaluate the accuracy of our results, the velocities obtained from six plate motion model was compared with the final solution based on GPS observation.

Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) have made it easier for healthcare workers and patients to monitor patients' status continuously in real time. WBANs have complex and diverse network structures; thus, management and control can be challenging. Therefore, considering emerging Software-defined networks (SDN) with WBANs is a promising technology since SDN implements a new network management and design approach. The SDN concept is used in this study to create more adaptable and dynamic network architectures for WBANs. The study focuses on comparing the performance of two SDN controllers, POX and Ryu, using Mininet, an open-source simulation tool, to construct network topologies. The performance of the controllers is evaluated based on bandwidth, throughput, and round-trip time metrics for networks using an OpenFlow switch with sixteen nodes and a controller for each topology. The study finds that the choice of network controller can significantly impact network performance and suggests that monitoring network performance indicators is crucial for optimizing network performance. The project provides valuable insights into the performance of SDN-based WBANs using POX and Ryu controllers and highlights the importance of selecting the appropriate network controller for a given network architecture.

Mobile phones have become an essential item nowadays since it provides access to online platform and service fast and easy. Coming to these platforms such as Social Network Service (SNS) for shopping have been a go-to option for many people. However, searching for a specific fashion item in the picture is challenging, where users need to try multiple searches by combining appropriate search keywords. To tackle this problem, we propose a system that could provide immediate access to websites related to fashion items. In the framework, we also propose a deep learning model for an automatic analysis of image contexts using instance segmentation. We use transfer learning by utilizing Deep fashion 2 to maximize our model accuracy. After segmenting all the fashion item objects in the image, the related search information is retrieved when the object is clicked. Furthermore, we successfully deploy our system so that it could be assessable using any web browser. We prove that deep learning could be a promising tool not only for scientific purpose but also applicable to commercial shopping.

In high-density high-rise cities such as Hong Kong, buildings account for nearly 90% of energy consumption and 61% of carbon emissions. Therefore, it is important to study the design of buildings, especially high-rise buildings, to achieve lower carbon emissions in the city. The carbon emissions of a building consist of embodied carbon from the production of construction materials and operational carbon from energy consumption during daily operation (e.g., air-conditioning and lighting). An integrated analysis of both types of carbon emissions can strengthen the design of low carbon buildings, but most of the previous studies concentrated mainly on either embodied or operational carbon. Therefore, the primary objective of this study is to develop a holistic methodology framework considering both embodied and operational carbon, in order to enhance the sustainable design of low carbon high-rise buildings. The framework will be based on the building information modeling (BIM) technology because BIM can be integrated with simulation systems and digital models of different disciplines, thereby enabling a holistic design and assessment of low carbon buildings. Structural analysis program is first coupled with BIM to validate the structural performance of a building design. The amounts of construction materials and embodied carbon are then quantified by a BIM-based program using the Dynamo programming interface. Operational carbon is quantified by energy simulation software based on the green building extensible Markup Language (gbXML) file from BIM. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) will be applied to analyze the ambient wind effect on indoor temperature and operational carbon. The BIM-based framework serves as a decision support tool to compare and explore more environmentally-sustainable design options to help reduce the carbon emissions in buildings.
Objectives: Cupping therapy (CT) has been widely used in traditional medicine worldwide for various indications, including stroke. The aim of this study was to systematically review the clinical evidence of CT for stroke. Methods: To identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting the effectiveness and/or safety of CT, seven databases including PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were searched for articles published from January 2000 to February 2021 without language restrictions. Meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.4 software and the results were presented as mean difference (MD) or standard mean difference (SMD) for continuous variables and odds ratio (OR) for diverse variables with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Assessment of the methodological quality of the eligible trials was conducted using the Cochrane Collaboration tool for risk of bias in RCTs. Results: Twenty-two RCTs with 1653 participants were included in the final analysis. CT provided additional benefit in improving upper limb motor function (Fugl-Meyer assessment for upper limb motor function, MD 6.91, 95% CI 4.64 to 1.67, P<0.00001) and spasticity (response rate, OR 3.28, 95% CI 1.31 to 8.22, P=0.08) in stroke survivors receiving conventional medical treatment. These findings were supported with a moderate level of evidence. CT did not significantly increase the occurrence of adverse events. Conclusions: This study demonstrated the potential of CT to be beneficial in managing a variety of complications in stroke survivors. However, to compensate for the shortcomings of the existing evidence, rigorously designed large-scale RCTs are warranted in the future.
