Surface wave techniques are widely used as non-invasive method for geotechnical site characterization. Field surface wave data are collected and analyzed using different processing techniques to generate the dispersion curves, which are further used to extract the shear wave velocity profile by inverse problem solution. Characteristics of a dispersion curve depend on the subsurface layering information of a vertically heterogeneous medium. Sometimes soft layer can be found between two stiff layers in the vertically heterogeneous media, and it can affect the wave propagation dramatically. Now most of the surface wave techniques use the fundamental mode Rayleigh wave propagation during the inversion, but this may not be the actual scenario when a soft layer is present in a vertically layered medium. This paper presents a detailed and comprehensive study using finite element method to examine the effect of soft layers which sometimes get trapped between two high velocity layers. Determination of the presence of a soft layer is quite important for proper mechanical characterization of a soil deposit. Present analysis shows that the thickness and position of the trapped soft layer highly influence the dispersion of Rayleigh waves while the higher modes also contribute in the resulting wave propagation.
There are many methods to accelerate for consolidation of the soft ground but, in this study, only preloading method was used to improve the soft ground. To measure the settlement of soft ground, surface-settlement plates were installed at several points. To examine settlement behavior of soft ground, back analysis was done using the measured results. In the back analysis, consolidation parameter( $c_{v}$) were obtained and it was compared with test result for undisturbed sample.e.

The purpose of this paper os to present and discuss some of flow and drain observed in modelling results. Because dredged fill ground of Yul-Chon located in the south coast of Korea is very soft, this ground should be improved after operation of surface stabilization. There are surface stabilization method such as chemical stabilization, desiccation, horizontally vacuum drain, replacement, and geosynthetics. In Yul-Chon, PTM(Progressive Trenching Method) is adopted to provide the necessity condition of surface desiccation. In the case trench in the dredged soft ground is formed by PTM equipment, pore water in the ground is drained through trench. There, drain and desiccation of surface ground increase, and bearing capacity is improved. In this research, when trench in the dredged soft ground is formed by PTM equipment, permeable characteristics and drain efficiency of pore-water are analyzed using SEEP/W software package. Results show variation of total head, pressure head, flux, hydraulic gradient, and flow quantity.
Soft mold imprinting method that uses nanostructured polymer mold was investigated for anti-reflection film fabrication. The nanostructured soft mold was polyethylene terephthalate(PET) irradiated by oxygen ion beams. The collisional energy transfer between oxygen ion and the polymer surface induced cross-linking and scission reactions, resulting in self-organized nanostructures with regular patterns of the wavenumber of $5{\mu}m^{-1}$. Post processes including ultra-violet curable resin coating and delamination fabricated anti-reflection films. The imprinted resin surface also showed the consistent wavenumber, $5{\mu}m^{-1}$. Pristine PET, oxygen ion beam treated PET, and imprinted replica sample showed total transmittance of 91.04, 93.25, and 93.57-93.88%, respectively.

PURPOSE. This study was aimed to determine the effect of two chemically distinct denture cleansers and water on the surface hardness of acrylic and silicone based soft denture liners at various time intervals. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two commonly used commercial resilient liner material were selected based on their chemical composition (silicone- and acrylic-based soft liners) for this investigation. 120 cylindrical specimens were made of $15mm{\times}10mm$ dimensions (according to ASTM: D-2240-64T) in a custom made metal mold. All specimens were stored in artificial saliva throughout the study. Forty specimens were cleansed daily in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite solution; forty were cleansed in sodium perborate and remaining forty specimens were daily rinsed in water. Testing was done at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months for surface hardness using a Shore A Durometer. A mean of 3 reading for each sample was subjected to one-way ANOVA, Post Hoc test and pair-t test for statistical analysis. P values of less than 0.05 were taken as statistically significant. RESULTS. Surface hardness of all the samples was significantly higher after a period of 6 months irrespective of the cleansing treatment. Minor changes were observed between control, sodium hypochlorite and sodium perborate groups with time. Greater change was observed in surface hardness of acrylic-based soft denture liners as compared to silicone-based soft liners for all groups, as time progressed. CONCLUSION. Silicone-based soft denture liners performed significantly better in all cleansing treatments than acrylic-based soft denture liners.
One of the methods to improve the softness and comfortness of denture base is the use of soft denture liners. In this study, specimens were made by 2 kinds of acrylic based soft lining materials and 2 kinds of silicone based soft lining materials, and bonded to acrylic resin(Lucitone $199^{(R)}$). Then they were tested the differences of tensile bond strengths according to the materials, thickness, surface treatment and failure mode. 1. Tensile bond strength according to soft lining materials was increased in order of Coe-$soft^{(R)}$, $Mollosil^{(R)}$, $Trusoft^{(R)}$, Ufi-Gel $C^{(R)}$. The differences between groups were statistically significant at level of 0.05. 2. Tensile bond strength according to thickness of soft lining materials was increased in order of 3mm, 2mm, 1mm. The differences between groups were not statistically significant. 3. Tensile bond strength of treated surface showed higher bond strength than nontreated surface. The difference between groups was not statistically significant. 4. The failure mode of Coe-$soft^{(R)}$, $Trusoft^{(R)}$, $Mollosil^{(R)}$ were mainly cohesive failure, and that of Ufi-Gel $C^{(R)}$ were mainly adhesive failure.
It is necessary to develop a national design method for surface reinforcement of very soft ground because most current design works rely on crude empirical correlations. In this paper, the mechanical behavior of very soft ground that is surficially reinforced was investigated with the aid of a sents of numerical analysis. Several material properties of each dredged soft ground, reinforcement and backfill sand mat have been exercised the numerical analysis in order to compare the result of numerical analysis with those of the laboratory model test. Through the matching process between the numerical and experimental result, it is possible to find the appropriate material properties of the dredged soft ground, reinforcements and backfill sand mat. These verified material properties permit to show the effect of the stiffness of reinforcement and the thickness of sand mat on the overall deformation.
Efficiency of crystalline Si solar cell can be maximized as minimizing optical loss through antireflection texturing with inverted pyramids. Even if cost-competitive, soft lithography can be employed instead of photolithography for the purpose, some limitations still remain to apply the soft lithography directly to as-received solar grade wafer with a bunch of micro trenches on surface. Therefore, it is needed to develop a low-cost, effective planarization process and evaluate its output to be applicable to patterning process with PDMS stamp. In this study new surface planarization process is proposed and the change of micro scale trenches on the surface as a function of etching time is observed. Also, the effect of trenches on pattern quality by soft lithography is investigated using FEM structural analysis. In conclusion it is clear that the geometry and shape of trenches would be basic considerations for soft lithography application to low quality wafer.
To resolve land demand by the development of various industries and the cityward tendency of population, the construction of ultra-soft ground that is unused in the past has been progressing with activity. The ultra-soft ground has very small shear strength and large deformation, so leads to many problems in ground improvement in construction. In order to dispose of these problems, it is necessary to develope the chemical materials that can be applied to the surface stabilization of ultra-soft ground. In this study, the new ground treatment that is using cement and SCS is compared, analyzed with existing ground treatment. In addition, through the laboratory tests that check the characteristic of congealment and strength, the application of SCS in field is affirmed.
