  • Recently by the development of the electronic engineering technology various mobile devices are developed. But their operation time need to be extended although capacity of the batteries are limited. We focused our attention to the portable SOFC system. Because SOFC has the high efficiency and a lot of strongness in comparison with other kinds of fuel cells, We evaluated hydrogen fed SOFC 50W system theoretically and got the results about the operating condition range from the comparison of the power efficiency, exhaust gas temperature, required heat for maintaining the operation temperature and operation time.

고체 산화물 연료전지의 공기극 유로내 크롬 피독에 관한 전산해석 (Numerical analysis of chromium deposition through the SOFC cathode channel)

  • SOFC is a high temperature fuelcell with many advantages, but it also have several demerits. One of the Issues is cathode poisoning of Cr coming from stainless steel interconnects. Diffusion process of Cr evaporated from the surface of interconnect steel was calculated by using CFD technique to understand factors for Cr deposition. It has been cleared that factors concerned in Cr deposition and how they affect Cr deposition. Major variables for Cr deposit ion are diffusion coefficient, air velocity and temperature If diffusion coefficient decreases, Cr concentration increases in the air but decreases on the cathode surface. Increasing in air velocity, Cr concentration decreases in the air and on the cathode surface. Increase in temperature leads to rising Cr concentration on the cathode surface because of diffusion coefficient increment.

  • The strengthened regulations for atmospheric emissions from ships like MARPOL Annex VI have caused a necessity of new, alternative power system in ships for the low pollutant emissions and the high energy efficiency. This paper attempts to investigate the configuration of SOFC/GT hybrid power system for LNG tanker taking into account the safety and to analyze the influence of design parameters on the system performance. The simulation results provide the basic data for the design and efficiency improvement of SOFC/GT hybrid system and indicate the guidelines for the safe system operation.

SOFC 음극용 Ni-YSZ 복합체 제조시 생기는 Ni 손실 (Ni Loss During the Fabrication of SOFC Anode, Ni-YSZ Composite)

  • SOFC 음극으로 쓰이는 Ni-YSZ 복합체의 제조과정 중에 생기는 조성의 변화를 관찰하였다. XRD를 이용하여 복합체 부위별로 상분석한 결과 Ni-YSZ 복합체는 소결과정이나 환원처리시 복합체 내-외부간의 조성차가 일어나며 이로 인해 전기적 물성의 불균일성이 나타난다. 복합체 조성의 불균일성 및 전기적 물성의 불균일성은 주로 복합체를 구성하는 Ni 성분의 변화에 기인했는데 소결과정이나 환원과정시 Ni 성분이 기판으로 확산해가거나 기상으로 증발해버려 Ni 손실이 생기기 때문인 것으로 나타났다. Ni 성분의 손실은 열처리 온도와 시간에 비례하여 커졌으며 이로 인해 복합체의 전기적 물성도 악화되었다.

  • Solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) is an electrochemical energy device which converts the free energy of fuel gas directly to electric energy. SOFC has several diratinct advantages over other types of fuel cells: no use of noble metals, no requirement of a reformer, no problem of liquid electrolyte management, and no problem of corrosion by liquid electrolyte. In this study, we have investigated the cell components and the single cell of the planar SOFC fabricated by composite plate process, in which green films of electrolyte, anode and cathode were co-fired. The planar SOFCs were tested and the cell performance characteristics wag evaluated by using electrochemical methods.

  • The 5kW SOFC(Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) System is composed to 3kW parallel Fuel Cell. We propose to the parallel control of 5kW PCS in the unbalance condition of fuel cell. The developed 5kW PCS can be found control ability of DC/DC converters in the operating conditions of the unbalanced parallel operation. It is verify to the control characteristics by simulation and experiment.

  • In this study, we fabricated tubular ceramic support for segmented-in-series solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) by using MAO(MgAl-stabilized ) as main material and activated carbon as pore former. Thermal expansion properties of ceramic support with different amounts of activated carbon were analyzed by using dilatometer to decide a suitable sintering temperature. The tubular ceramic supports with different amounts of activated carbon (15, 20, 30wt.%) were fabricated by the extrusion technique. After sintering at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 2h, cross section and surface morphology of tubular ceramic support were analyzed by using SEM image. Also, the porosity, mechanical property, gas permeability of tubular ceramic supports was measured. Based on these results, we established the suitable fabrication technique of tubular ceramic support for segmented-in-series SOFC.

  • In the present study, the 2-fluid nozzle and 3-fluid nozzle to atomize the diesel and water with air for the fuel reformer of SOFC system were experimentally examined. In the 2-fluid nozzle, the diesel and water were alternately atomized due to bislug flow pattern, and it implies that the mixing of both liquids strongly affects the atomization pattern. On the other hand, in the 3-fluid nozzle, the diesel and water were atomized simultaneously due to the separated injection channels without mixing problem. Therefore, compared to the 2-fluid nozzle, the 3-fluid nozzle is suitable for the stable operation of the fuel reformer. In case of the 3-fluid nozzle, Type A where the air was supplied through the central channel was the most efficient.

  • The research and development for the solid oxide fuel cell have been promoted rapidly and extensively in recent years, because of their high efficiency and future potential. Therefore this paper describes the manufacturing method and characteristics of anode electrode for SOFC, by the way, Ni-YSZ materials are used as anode of SOFC widely. So in this experiments, we investigated the optimum content of Ni, by testing expansion coefficient, impedance characteristics, overvoltage. As a result, the performance of Ni-YSZ anode(40vol%) was better excellent than the others.

  • Recently, the hybrid system combining fuel cell and gas turbine has drawn much attention owing to its high efficiency and ultra low emission. It is now on the verge of world wide development and various system configurations have been proposed. A national project funded by Korean government has also been initiated to develop a pressurized hybrid system. This work aims at presenting design performance analysis for various possible system configurations as an initial step for the system development. Study focuses are given to major design options including the power ratio between gas turbine and fuel cell, reforming method (internal or external), reforming heat source (reforming burner, cathode hot air, fuel cell heat release) and steam supply method for reformer (anode gas recirculation, external steam generator). A wide variation in performance among different configurations has been predicted.
