This paper proposes strategy development to improve the management of Multicultural Family Support Centers by analyzing four Multicultural Family Support Centers (MFSCs) in Chungcheongnam-do. The research was conducted from September 2012 to January 2013. Future directions for the four MFSCs are established based on a SWOT analysis on both the internal and external environments of the centers. Various strategic directions for the four MFSCs were identified based on these analyses. For center A (urban type, college contract type), the strategic directions included the specialization strategy, systemization strategy, empowerment strategy, standardization strategy, and achievement maximization strategy. The strategic directions for center B (urban-rural combined type, social welfare center contract type) included the improvement of multiculture awareness, specialization strategy, human resource development strategy, and networking strategy. For center C (farming and fishing community type, direct management type by local authority), the strategic directions included the specialization strategy, activation strategy, qualification strategy, and networking strategy. For center D (farming and fishing community type, social welfare center contract type), the strategic directions included the specialization strategy, business standardization strategy, human resource development strategy, and network expansion strategy. The suggested management strategy development for the four MFSCs can provide implications for the management of MFSCs in other areas in Korea.

The purpose of the study was to identify the degree of social support and burden in mothers of children with cancer, and to determine a strategy of an effective social support utility for burden relief in these mothers. The subjects of this study were consisted of mothers of cancer children, registered at a'C'University affiliated hospital in Taejon. The data was collected from July 1 to August 31, 1994. Three instruments were used to collect the data : a semi-structured interview questionnaire which was developed by the researcher was used to identify the content of the mother's burden, a Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) that had a 10cm horizontal line was used to measure the degree of mother's burden and the PRQ part I & part Ⅱ were used to measure the degree of mother's social support. The content of mother's burden collected through in depth interviews was analyzed using content analysis. Also burden and social support data were analyzed by SAS program. The result of this study were summarized as follows : 1. The data on burden content from the interview were categorized as psychological, physiological, family interaction with maternal role, financial burden and personal interaction with social relational burden. 2. The degree of burden measured by VAS had a mean of 8.04(range from 0.5 to 10). 3. The score for social support measured by PRQ part Ⅱ had a mean of 88.9(range from 71 to 113). The highest scores was for reassurance of worth. The lowest score was for opportunity for nuturance. Most of the 15 mothers received the greatest amount of support from their sisters, spouse, friends, neighbors, relations, priest were perceived as eaningful resource person. 4. The correlation coefficient of burden and social support was somewhat negative correlation but no statistical significance(r=-.072). Therefore, a further study is necessary to repeat the qualitative research for exploring factor to be affected family caregiver's burden according to disease proceeding stage. On the basis of the results from this study, future research will be promoted valid and reliable tool development. Through this study, nurses understand and assess the individual psychologic burden and further it would be recommendated to produce professional education program for pediatric oncologic specialist nurse.
The purpose of this study was to identify the social networks used by the rural elderly and to analyze the effects of these social networks on the need for life services. The research subjects were 1,000 people aged 65 years and over living in the rural areas of Korea. Among the total 1,000 respondents, 979 elderly who have children were included in this study. The data were analyzed using frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, the frequency of contact with friends/neighbors was higher than that of children, whereas the social support of children was higher than that of friends/neighbors(excluding physical support). Second, the rate of use of home services and the elderly welfare center was very low. Promotion, a minimum cost burden, convenient transportation (circulation bus operation, etc.), and the provision of visiting services are examples of ways to be using them much more. Third, the elderly who do not live with their children have a higher need for life services. As well unlike the elderly who live with their children, in the case of the elderly who do not live with their children, the necessity for life services was influenced not only by their children but also by the relationship with their friends/neighbors and by home services. This implies that comprehensive social networks are important for the elderly who do not live with their children. Therefore, it is necessary to activate the social support of the community as well as of children and friends/neighbors.
Purpose: This study was done to examine whether risk of suicidal ideation in nursing students as related to social support and ego-resilience, and whether subjective wellbeing mediated the relationships. Methods: Structural equation modeling was applied to test the model in which ego-resilience and social support from family, friends, and others were considered as exogenous variables and subjective wellbeing as a mediating variable. The participants were 285 nursing students who completed self-report measures including the Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, the Ego-Resiliency Scale, and the Index of Wellbeing. Results: Results show that higher scores on family support and ego-resilience were positively associated with subjective wellbeing and negatively with suicidal ideation. Subjective wellbeing mediated the relationships between family support and suicidal ideation, and also ego-resilience and suicidal ideation. Among the three social supports, only family social support had both direct and indirect effects on suicidal ideation. Conclusion: Findings suggest that family support is a useful resource in the prevention of suicidal ideation in nursing students and building supportive relationship with family should be considered as the first step in suicide prevention strategies. Also enhancing ego-resilience could play an important role to reduce suicide risk through promoting well-being.

This study will examine the relationship between social support from the work and family domains, referred to as multiple social network ties (MSNT), and employees' job and family-related performance outcomes during the COVID-19 crisis. The study also demonstrates the importance of employees' work-family balance (WFB) in moderating the association between MSNT and job and family-related performance. A two-wave design was used to collect data from 320 managerial level personnel in Pakistan's textile sector. The path analysis technique of structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to analyze the responses. In times of crisis, social support mechanisms could potentially replace organizational support mechanisms for employees dealing with work and family obligations, according to the study. The findings of this study show that work-family balance is a significant partial mediator between MSNT and employees' job and family-related outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a best-fit model. This research supports the pragmatic view of MSNT's action mechanism in generating jobs for employees and family-related results, especially in uncertain situations. According to the findings, employees who have a positive work-life balance are happier and more productive in both work and personal life. It has major implications for human resource management (HRM) research and practice.
purpose of this study was to compare the direction of work-family balance policy with the family support of Chosun Dynasty by reviewing the literature of the period, including diaries of "Soemilok" and "Miamilki" and letters written by Yangban. The major findings drawn from the literature were as follows: The husbands in Chosen, especially as public officials, were under strong obligation to support their family like working wives in modern society. They were able to care for and support their families and maintain their careers due to flexibility in their office hours. They had dual burdens of home management and outside labor but their requests for the necessities of life were resolved promptly in public offices. From this result, it was argued that the policy for dual burden for women would benefit from a consideration for flexibility and reduction of working hours. Especially it was emphasized that the border between home and work place should be more open and the relationship of family should be supported by work-family balance policy.

Social support can be identified as stress-relieving factor, social support is considered to decrease the amount of negativeness in an individual or family. This study attempted to identify the level of burden and social support in mothers of children who are handicapped, and to determine whether social support is an effective strategy for burden relief in these mothers. The method used in the study was a correlational descriptive survey using a questionnaire. The subjects for the study were 42 mothers who have the handicapped children, between two to twelve years of age, being treated at S General Welfare House for Handicapped and S Rehabilitation Center in Seoul. The data were collected during 1 month from March 20 to April 20, 1996. The instruments used for this study was a structured questionnaire which was the Burden scale developed by Suh Mihae and Oh Kasil(1993) and the PRQ(Personal Resource Questionnaire) scale developed by Brandt & Weinert(1981). The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS computer program, yielding frequencies, percentiles, means, standard deviations, $x^{2}$-test, Pearson's correlation coefficienct, t-test and ANOVA. The results of this study are as follows ; 1)The range of age in the subjects was $29{\sim}44$ years, the range age in the handicapped children was $2{\sim}12$ years. 2) The mean score of burden, for the mothers of the handicapped children was 2.75(standard deviation was 0.47) of a possible total of 5. 3) The mean score of social support, for the mothers of the handicapped children was 4.99 (standard deviation was 0.59) of a possible total of 7. 4) There was an negative correlations hip between burden level and the social support, but there was no statistically significant correlationship between burden level and the social support(r = -.2252, p = .076) 5) In the general characteristics influencing on the burden level was significantly related with the sex(t = - 2.87, p = .007) and the degree of child's handicap level(F = 11.8680, p = .000l). In the general characteristics influencing on the social support was significantly related with the family(husband) support(F = 3.5199, p = .0240). There were significant differences in the mother's levels of burden depending upon the severity of child's handicap. In other words, the degree of mother's burden was directly proportionate to the degree of child's handicap level. There were significant differences in the mother's levels of social support depending upon the family(husband) support. In conclusion, on the basis of the results of this study, there was no statistically significant correlationship between burden level and the social support. Above results suggest that strategies for the intervention programs in diminishing the mother's burden and reinforcing the social support.
Purpose: As the number of cases of heart transplantation (HT) and the survival rate have increased, concerns regarding post-HT life have grown. This study was conducted to explore the relationships of perceived social support to the depression and health status of HT recipients. Methods: This descriptive study targeted all recipients who had undergone HT at S University Hospital since 1994, and 32 recipients were recruited. Results: 90.6% of the recipients were men, and the average age at the time of surgery was $47.4{\pm}13.4$ years. The ejection fraction was increased from $18.47{\pm}5.63%$ to $63.25{\pm}7.57%$, and 31 cases of New York Heart Association (NYHA) class III and IV improved to class I or II after HT. The patients reported mild depression even with high perceived social support and improved health status after HT. Among those resource persons who offered support, they reported their spouse, doctors, and nurses as most meaningful to them. Conclusion: This study confirmed the positive effects of HT on the recipients' physical improvement. It also added the discovery that the importance of recipients' subjective perception of social support might be critical for their more successful recovery and adjustment to post-HT life. Focusing on a different approach to social support and types of social resources in the recovery phase is suggested for future studies on quality of life after HT.
