This paper aims at analysing what impacts the experience of self-employed business have had on the income mobility. Since 2000s, the flexibilization of labor market and the population aging led to the increase of the number of self-employed job as many retirees at the age of early 50s has set up the self-employed business as a bridge job. However, previous researches just have emphasized on the impoverishment of the self-employed, but not focused on what different effects the experience of self-employed had on the income class mobility by age group. This paper compares the difference in the income class mobility by age group and employment status, and analyses its longitudinal trends. According to the result, as a whole the experience of self-employed has positive effect on the upper mobility of income class, but it become disadvantageous for the upper mobility as the age goes up. When belonging to the age group over 60s, the experience of self-employed rather increases the risk of lowering income class. Just as the experience of self-employed has different effects on income class mobility by age group, so the differentiated measures for age groups are demanded.
Communication in delay tolerant networks (DTNs) relies on message transport by mobile nodes, and a correct understanding of the node mobility characteristics is therefore crucial to the design of an efficient DTN routing protocol. However, previous work has mainly focused on uncovering all behaviors of node movement, which is not conducive to accurately detecting the specific movement characteristics of a different node. In this paper, we seek to address this problem based on a consideration of social relationships. We first consider social ties from both static and dynamic perspectives. For a static perspective, in addition to certain accidental events, social relations are considered for a long time granularity and tend to be stable over time. For a dynamic perspective, social relations are analyzed in a relatively short time granularity and are likely to change over time. Based on these perspectives, we adopted different efficient approaches to dividing node pairs into two classes, i.e., familiar and unfamiliar pairs. A threshold approach is used for static social ties whereas a density-based aggregation method is used for dynamic social relationships. Extensive experimental results show that both familiar and unfamiliar node pairs have the same inter-contact time distribution, which closely follows a power-law decay up to a certain point, beyond which it begins to exponentially decay. The results also demonstrate that the inter-contact time distribution of familiar pairs decays faster than that of unfamiliar pairs, whether from a static or dynamic perspective. In addition, we also analyze the reason for the difference between the inter-contact time distributions of both unfamiliar and familiar pairs.
The Purpose: This study aims to identify the characteristics of customer satisfaction of the restaurants delivery applications that is increasing globally, especially in Korea. Due to demographic changes, social trends and the development of food science, customers no longer want to visit restaurants. This represents an important change in the restaurant business, and related research is also very urgent. Research design, data, and methodology: With 296 surveyed questionnaire, the study analyzed to verify the validity and reliability of measured variables in Korea. And structural equation model was used for hypotheses test of the research. Results: The result showed that consumers' usefulness, mobility, and reliability influenced on satisfaction. Specifically, mobility and reliability influencing the satisfaction and loyalty as well. And significant impact of satisfaction and loyalty are also corroborated. However, the path from informative to both satisfaction and loyalty was not statistically significant. This means food application developers should no longer focus on providing too many information, instead, concentrate on improving mobility and trust of mobile applications. Conclusions: This study analyzed the influence of attributes of food delivery applications on satisfaction and loyalty, and suggested crucial strategic implications of delivery marketing companies involved in the implementation of mobile application developers.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the functional (mobility, self-care, social ability) and health-related quality of life in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Methods: A cross- sectional survey of 202 children with CP, mean age $5.91{\pm}1.57$ years, was carried out using the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM), Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI), and Child Health Questionnaire (CHQ). Results: The functional assessment of children with CP showed that a more severe GMFCS level was associated with lower functional abilities (p<0.05). The health-related quality of life assessment showed that psychosocial well-being was less impaired than physical well-being. The internal consistency of the three instruments was satisfactory (cronbach's ${\alpha}$>0.80). The three different scales were correlated from moderate to strong (r=0.44 to 0.92). It was also found that mobility, tone distribution, and the parents' education level exerted a significant effect on the quality of life of children with CP (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that children with CP have reduced function and quality of life and these are influenced by various factors. However, planning and application of various task-oriented functional interventions to childhood CP may be useful.
The objectives of this study were to develop a probabilistic model for both hypotheses testing and mobility prediction. Methodologies being used for the analysis include multivariated analysis for descriptive statistics and logit model for hypotheses testing and prediction. The study used questionaire survey data conducted by Korean Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) in 1988. There were a total of 1,620 Samples, and both SPSS and Limdep software packages were used for statistical analysis and model testing. The major findings were highlighted as follows; The residential mobility over family life span by the social class were developed with the use of the probability model. Most of households in low class moved downwardly. They had lived the small-owned single detached house in first family life span and moved into the small-rented single detached house in next family life span. Most of households in middle class moved upwardly. They had lived the small-owned apartment in first family life span and moved into the large-owned single detached house in last family life span. Most of households in high class horizontally. They had lived the large-owned single detached house in first family life span and moved into the same one except in last family life span.
Traditionally, students from the Southern world tend to cross their national borders to study abroad. However, in recent times, we have observed a trend in which more and more students, both full-time and short-term, select Southern countries as destinations for overseas education. This paper contributes to the sparse literature on the above phenomenon, examining the case of Vietnam. We surveyed 50 universities and colleges about their international student profiles (including statistics and nationalities) and their strategies for attracting international students. The findings of this study provide implications for Vietnam's policymakers and university/college leaders and other Southern countries when implementing the internationalization of tertiary education.
As polarization and class reproduction between generations are considered to be serious problems in Korean society, increasing number of assortative mating, which means marrying between homogeneous family background, income class, and educational background, is on the spotlight socially. Some worry that the increase of assortative mating can reinforce closure of social mobility so it deepens inequality and limits class mobility between generations. This research analyzes the effects of accomplishment characteristics of husbands and wives and ascriptive characteristics of parents which consist the concept of assortative mating, on income, consumption, and assets those represent economic status of a family. The purpose of this research is to suggest empirical understanding on the role of assortative mating that affect on inequality within generations and income mobility between generations in Korean society. In the result of multiple regression analysis on the effect of assortative mating on income, consumption, and assets, high educational background was the factor that increase income and consumption level as accomplishment characteristics of assortative mating. As ascriptive characteristics of assortative mating, educational homogeneous of fathers was the factor that increased asset level. While accomplishment characteristics affect income and consumption, ascriptive characteristics of homogeneous had significant effect on assets. Thus, it was found that transfer between generations had effects around asset rather than income. In particular, ascriptive characteristics in young husbands and wives aged 20s or 30s had significant effect only on the assets.
Objective : This study aimed to systematically examine studies on the life-space mobility in community-dwelling elderly and analyze and summarize the research trends. Methods : The Embase and PubMed databases were searched for articles on the life-space mobility of community-dwelling elderly published between January 2010 and January 2020. Based on the selection and exclusion criteria of the 335 articles, a total of 27 articles were finally selected and analyzed. Results : As a results, 11 (40.7%) cohort studies had evidence level II. This study showed that the participants in the studies were healthy elderly (81.5%), and the University of Alabama Life-Space Assessment (UAB-LSA) used the most participants (88.9%). Of the foci of the 27 finally selected studies, 8 (29.6%) were physical, 8 (29.6%) were psychosocial, 6 (22.2%) were cognitive, and 2 (7.4%) were social, and 3 (11.1%) were others. The life-space mobility of the elderly needs to be analyzed from a multidimensional point of view, and not based on a single factor such as the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, or social. Conclusion : The results of this study are expected to verify causality through the study of life-space mobility for the elderly staying in various communities and provide future directions for the study on the mobility of the elderly's and the development of community-based intervention programs.
This study investigated the general characteristics of mobility disadvantaged persons with disabilities, and to suggest implications to ensure personal mobility with the greatest possible independence for the physically disabled in community. The survey questionnaire included the categories as follows: the general characteristics of the participants, the status of outing and mobility, usage of low-floor buses & taxi for the disabled, service improvement, and mobile support center. Data collected from 219 with physical disabilities were analyzed for this purpose by using descriptive statistics. The study results showed that 54.6% of the total tended to go out everyday, and 17.0% rarely. 53.4% could go out without any assistance, and the major obstacles not to go out were stairs and inconvenience of public transportation. 26.9% used low-floor buses, and 71.1% preferred to use taxi for the disabled. The average waiting time for the usage of low-flow buses and taxi was 66.57 minute and 42.65 minute, separately. 78.7% insisted that the function of mobile support center in the community should be expanded, whereas only 49.8% recognized the role of mobile support center. Based on the study results, the researchers suggested to facilitate access by persons with disabilities to mobility aids, and to improve the actual state of pedestrian environment. In addition, the function of mobile support center should be expanded to help the mobility disadvantaged persons live independently in community, thereby contributing to the promotion of their quality of life.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between social support and quality of life (QOL) in elderly people and to examine potential cross-cultural differences. Methods: The author surveyed 82 elderly people, over the age of 65, residing in a nursing home in a Korean rural area and 73 Korean immigrants living in Houston Texas USA who were also elderly. The degree of social support was measured with 20 questions that were answered using a 5 grade scale. The quality of life was measured in 5 fields (mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression, each scored using a 3 grade scale) with EUROQOL EQ-5D. Results: The mean score of social support was 65.43 for domestic Korean elderly people (range: 26 to 98); it was 73.43 for elderly Korean Americans (range: 26 to 100). The score was lower for domestic Koreans despite the traditional environment (p<0.05). Regarding QOL, 61% of domestic Korean elderly people complained of pain/discomfort and 47.5% appeared to have anxiety/depression, 30.5% complained of limitations in mobility, 20.7% reported limitations in usual activities, and 14.6% had limitations in basic self.care activity such as washing or dressing. A similar proportion of Korean American elderly had limitations in usual activities (19.2%) and self care activity (9.5%). But significantly fewer complained of anxiety/depression (16.5%, p<0.01) or pain/discomfort (38.3%, p<0.01). The major differences in psychological domains of QOL may be related to the degree of social support and the difference in the socio.cultural environment. Conclusion: Social support is a major determinant of QOL, especially for psychological domains, and these relationships are under the influence of the socio.cultural environment.
