The purpose of this study was to present implications for empirical analysis of the structural relationship between the level of activities for senior citizens, self-efficacy, and life satisfaction and depression. In order to the survey was conducted For the elderly students who are enrolled in the Senior Citizens' Welfare Center and participating in the information service education in the G-metropolitan city. The method of data analysis was verified by the Regression and Hierarchical Regression analysis using the spss 22.0 statistical program. As a result, The level of activity for the elderly increases the level of self-efficac, The level of activity and self-efficacy of the elderly increased the level of living satisfaction of the elderly and It has been shown to lower the level of depression. Self-efficacy has been shown to have a mediating effect in the relationship between senior citizens' level of information service activities and living satisfaction and depression. Based on these analysis results, a policy measure was proposed to enhance the level of activities for senior citizens.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diet quality of the menus delivered by 17 free meal service centers for the low-income home-bound elderly in Chung- cheong buk-Do. Statistical data analysis was compleleted using the SPSS package program for descriptive analysis, T-test, and ANOVA. The meals offered by free meal service centers were not met the 1/3 recommended dietary allowances in calcium and vitamin $B_2$. There were significant differences between dependent variables(nutrient content, nutrient density, nutrient deficiency, NAR, MAR, food group intake patterns) and independent variables (operation type, operation status, operation period, nutritionist, food cost).
This article describers the field testing of the task-centered case management model for practice with the elderly clients in the community. Six social workers in three community center applied task centered. model to 12 elderly in community. The model tested in the field trial led to positive results. The results of task completion and problem change indicate that including elderly clients in all steps from identifying problems to suggesting and implementing tasks are important. Target problems and tasks which clients indicate gained high accomplishment. Task-centered interventions provided an intensive period of service that helped clients work on immediate problems. Moreover, they helped clients actively participate in decision making processes and in problem solving activities. Although the task centered approach is a short tenn intervention, the analysis of the field trial suggests that it can be integrated with an approach that is a long tenn in nature through re contract for different problems or unresolved problems. Several suggestion can be made to apply task-centered model for elderly in Korea. First, since one social worker handles over 60 cases, this approach can be used more effectively for new case or the elderly who needs intensive help. Second, preparing and sharing contract with client should be encouraged to help both client and social workers. Also until the social workers are familiar with this approach, there should be an intensive supervision to monitor their activities. Third, it is important to make task planner for Social workers who is working with elderly in community. Task planner is the guide line books to show steps to solve similar problems. Fourth, more efforts should be made to make resource directory in the community as well as in Korea. Fifth, case managers who handle family problems and other personal conflicts should be more trained to be confident to deal with these problems.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate predictors of cognitive function decline among community dwelling elderly. Methods : Data were analyzed from the Survey of Living Condition of Elderly panel study. Cognitive function was measured with the MMSE-KC at baseline and year 3. The study subjects were 5,464 community dwelling people aged 65 years or older who had no disability at baseline. Logistic regression analysis was used to predict cognitive function decline. Results : From 2008-2011, 4,417(80.8%) elderly people had no cognitive decline, and 1,074(19.2%) showed cognitive function decline measured by the MMSE-KC. After adjusting for demographics and baseline MMSE-KC score, the best predictors for cognitive function decline at 36 months were diabetes mellitus, smoking, low intensity physical activity, relationship with relatives and friends. Conclusions : Health promotion programs that are focused on the elderly are essential in preventing cognitive function decline. Promoting regular physical activity, and social relationships should be included in health promotion for elderly. When treating patients with diabetes, preventing cognitive impairment should be considered through education and counseling.
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of self-esteem on the relationship between economic status and happiness among the elderly. The subjects of this study were 641 people over 65 years old around 4 metropolitan area. Structural Equation Modeling in AMOS 18.0 was adopted to examine measurement model and mediating effects of self-esteem by using Bootstrapping method. The results were as followings. First, subjects who had higher education, higher income, married, religion, higher marital satisfaction, no chronic disease, voluntary work participation showed more higher happiness. Second, the analysis resulted confined the full mediation effects of self-esteem in the relations between the economic status and happiness of the elderly. Based on these findings suggested that social work intervention service should be discussed to increase the level of self-esteem for the happiness among the elderly.
Purpose - With rapid population aging in Korea, changes in the population structure will result in a rise in the fiscal burden. This paper investigates the effects of population aging on fiscal spending based on Korea's province data and country panel data from the OECD. Research design, data, and methodology - We use province-level fiscal data from Local Finance Integrated Open System and the Korean Statistical Information Service and also collect country panel data from the OECD. To investigate the relationship between population aging and fiscal expenditures, our analysis uses the fixed effects model. Results - The empirical analysis based on Korean local finance and country panel data show that population aging has a positive impact on social welfare expenditures and it also has a positive impact on spending related to children and the elderly, implying that population aging may lead to an increase in fiscal spending via an increase in social welfare expenditures and spending related to children and the elderly. Conclusion - These empirical results suggest that countries like Korea that expect to experience rapid population aging need to pay more attention to prepare for the expected increase in age-related spending in the near future.
The purpose of this study is to explore social supports for elderly housing and their residential lives in small cities along rural counties of the United States and Canada, and suggest future implications for age-concentrated rural villages in Korea. In this study, five small and medium cities in non-metropolitan counties of California and Ontario province were visited and elderly residents and service experts were interviewed about their perceptions of community integrated social support networks for senior residences. The senior housing complexes were built due to influx of both metropolitan and rural residents seeking warm localities, traffic connections, business purposes in active production areas. and leisure attractions. There are five main social support networks for senior housing issues in these areas. First, the areas are claimed for senior zones and accordingly health industries are encouraged by local authorities. Second, the community is homogeneously constructed as a senior friendly environment and include features such as an RV park and mobile cottages. Third, senior-helping seniors are offered active work through golf-cluster active retirement communities. Fourth, traditional theme production camps are mobilized by the elderly workers. Lastly, an information system is maintained for screening volunteers and for senior abuse prevention. On the other hand, residential lives are occasionally negatively influenced by unbalanced concentrations of elderly facilities such as nursing stations and funeral homes. For the future of Korean rural elderly policies, suggestions are made as follows: first, an integrated urban and rural township that contains attractive places for early retiring people who seek a warm atmosphere in later life needs to be constructed. Second, an integrated model retirement village of urban and rural retirement life needs to be initiated as a measure of evaluating the adaptation process of movers in senior concentrated zones. Third, a cooperation system among governmental ministries needs to be formed with the long- term goal of establishing a traditional rural town of independent housing districts and medical facilities in rural areas. Fourth, productive and active lifestyles need to be maintained as the local community and government develop successful retirement rural villages, by limiting the expansion of nursing related facilities. Finally, generation integrated visiting welfare programs and services need to be further developed for the housing areas especially in the winter, when social integration and activity are relatively low.

On the other hand, residential lives in the zones are occasionally negatively influenced by unbalanced concentrations of elderly facilities such as nursing stations and funeral homes. For the future of Korean rural elderly policies, suggestions are made as follows: first, integrated forms of urban and rural township need to be settled as attracting places for early retiring people who seek low cost pastoral oriented but culturally activated environment. Second, a model town of mobile housing structures needs to be initiated as a measure of evaluating adaptation process of those movers. Third, a cooperation system among governmental ministries needs to be formed in order to integrate a long term master plan of establishing traditional rural town of independent housing districts. fourth, productive and active lifestyles need to be maintained for government lead retirement rural villages by limiting expansion of nursing related facilities around the independent areas. Fifth, visiting welfare service programs and volunteer groups need to be further developed for the housing area especially in winter time, when social integration and emotional comforts are extremely limited.

The purpose of this paper is to prepare the department creation and the staff increase of education institution by forecasting the demand of health and welfare workers according to execution of the elderly's long-terms treatment insurance system in July, 2008. We estimated confirmors of the elderly's long-terms treatment and the demand of professional workers of health and welfare field due to the increase of care insurance users in facilities treatment organization, care at home service facilities, and family allowance facilities for 2010-2030. The numbers of social welfare professional worker are estimated as 16,624 workers in 2020 and 24,688 workers in 2030. The numbers of nurses are forecasted as 11.287 in 2020 and 16,624 in 2030, we expect that the increase of the demand be accelerated. The demand of necessary care probation worker is 44,824 in 2009, but we already trained over around 500,000 workers in 1,078 education institutions through one year in Aug. 31, 2009, which excesses over the numbers of workers demanded as much as 10 times.
This study was purposed to find health promotion and care needs of the elderly in rural area of Korea. As the rural elderly are limited in accessibility to health care resources and could not immediately solve their health care needs when they need. health promotion and care services are expected to bring better and more practical solutions of their health care needs. Thus, the type of health care services to be developed in Korea rural area is discussed to have emphasis on health care service component in addition to health promoting components. Methods of this study was based on survey data analysis : total 322 persons aged older than 55 living at one 'Kun' in Korea administrative unit were interviewed by health workers working at the region and also get trained for this study data collection. The data collection interview was continued from February till May in 1996. The interview questions were modified with adjustment to Korea situation. with basis of the WHO's health promotion program components. The collected data were analyzed using SAS program for frequency, correlation, regressions. The major findings were as follows : (1) $74.8\%$ of the surveyed were sick at the survey time point. and $95.9\%$ known the diagnosis name of the disease. The most frequently complained diseases were Muscular-Skeletal diseases $(43.7\%)$. $34\%$ of those sick had never treated or discontinued therapeutic procedures. so that shown the necessity of systematic and usual health care services with health promotion program development for the elderly. (2) The percent of those who make social participation was $95.3\%$. and the activities were visiting neighbors $(70.4\%)$ and lack of qualified social activity programs. (3) $78.1\%$ of the surveyed had health counseling and education from professional health workers. Those ceased smoking and drinking were $59.6\%,\; 60.3\%$. respectively. Those had no application of therapeutic drugs or nutrion supplements was $40.7\%\;and\;94.1\%$ had regular meals. Those practiced exercises was low remarking $17.7\%$. (4) Positive health behaviors were better carried out by sick groups than by the healthier. except smoking. regular meals. and exercise. $17.5\%$ of sick group smoke more than one case of cigarettes. in contrast to $9.5\%$ of the healthier. (5) Mental health status was heathier among positive health behavior earners. Health counseling and education shown better score of mental health than those never counseled. (6) Positive health behavior practice frequency did not show significant differences when crossed by social activity participation status. (7) Health behaviors of the rural elderly people were carried out better when they had positive 'continuency in therapeutic procedure' 'health status'. 'familial relationship'. 'Health Status' of the rural olderly were explained by 'exercise'. 'drinking'. 'familial relationship'. 'activities of daily living'. Thus, health behaviors practice mutually interact with health status. In conclusion. the health promotion and care program component are recommended to include ation on the necessity of positive health promotion active social acitivities. pleasant life style, adaption into changes on the elderly, safety in residential area. community acitivity and resource utilization. etc .. in addition to the elderly's disability and sickness caring services.
