  • In this study, some methods for the organization of space in the welfare center for the disabled are suggested corresponding to the change of welfare paradigm for the disabled, by means of investigating and analyzing the existing organization of space, division of the areas and relevant programs. The results of the study are as follows. 1) The method of the spatial organization in the welfare center for the disabled is divided largely into an area of the welfare complex center used as a facility of uses and an area of the controlling center that manages and makes use of domiciliary welfare. 2) The division of counselling and management is the center for the aforementioned two areas. This division occupying the minimum space in the welfare center has to be expanded. Besides, the space for the volunteers for 'domiciliary welfare' is necessary. This can be administered synthetically along with the room for volunteers in the division of social rehabilitation. 3) It is necessary for the division of medical rehabilitation to have a common waiting area due to its close connection with other treatment rooms. It should be recommended to have it in the water treatment room. It is required to have a parents' waiting area in the treatment room for child rehabilitation. 4) In case of the division of educational rehabilitation, the daytime care center should be closely related to the division of medical rehabilitation. Meanwhile, the classrooms after school have a limited use so that they can be shared with the room for female rehabilitation in the division of social rehabilitation. 5) It is in reality for the division of social rehabilitation to have an expanded area of domiciliary welfare. The room for volunteers for domiciliary welfare should be arranged, too.

  • This study searched for the common and different aspects of social community welfare centers and health family support centers for family welfare practice of the community. We also tried to find out the awareness of workers and the performance function for each institution. Through the interviews and review of literature, and comparative analysis of operating status, we looked for the common and different aspects, and the direction of development, which evolved family welfare into the community by way of function and relationships of both institutions. As a result, the participants of this study pursued common purposes. They however made aware of the issues of discrimination about social values and each institution's functions. We suggest that the social community welfare center focuses on individuals and families, in order to integrate the community. A health family support center should play the role to fulfill needs for family welfare according to family life cycle, and have good accessibility for individuals and families in the community.

We examined 15 social welfare centers built in the 2000s. A literature review and case study were used as research methodology. The findings are as follow. First, services provided at the surveyed facilities overlapped for seniors and the handicapped. Most social welfare centers provided welfare services for seniors, young children, and teenagers. Second, the proportion of common area, program rooms was high for spatial composition. Third, front access by car was most common (used at nine centers) for the design of the access area and used by. Fourth, shared entry and exit was most common (used at 10 centers) for the design of the entrance. Fifth, regarding space combining style, a mixed style was most frequently used (observed at seven centers) where different private areas for different service users were partly mixed on certain floors. Sixth, a corridor type was most common (used at seven centers) for the design of a corridor space where visitors could walk along the corridor to access individual rooms. Based on the findings, we propose spatial composition of social welfare centers to promote mingling and exchanges among users of different generations.
