Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of self-esteem or social support on job-related stress and depression among emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Methods: Data were collected from EMTs at emergency medical institutions and fire stations (n=257). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS WIN 21.0. Results: Self-esteem and social support of EMTs were found to be at moderate levels (Self-esteem: M=3.04, SD=0.43; Social support: M=3.65, SD=0.43) Job-related stress was positively correlated with depression: the higher the job-related stress score, the higher the depression score. Moreover, self-esteem score or social support score was negatively associated with job-related stress and depression: the higher the self-esteem score or the higher the social support score, the lower the job related stress score and the depression score. Conclusions: Future research should address how social support and networks interact and together affect self-esteem for job-related stress and depression.
The evolution of the Web from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 has brought up new platforms as SNSs(Social Network Service) that are used by users to articulate and manage their relationships. SNSs are an online phenomenon which has become extremely popular. A SNS essentially consists of a representation of each user, his/her social links, and a variety of additional services. SNSs are increasingly attracting the attention of academic and industry researchers. What makes SNS unique is that they have a relationship with friends. The friend recommendation is one important feature of social networking services. People tend to trust the opinions of friends they know rather than the opinions of strangers. In this paper, we propose an efficient data processing method for social data. We study previous researches about social score in social network service. Our ESS(Efficient Social Score) is computed by both friendship weight and score of a document that was tagged by a user's friends. Our experimental results also confirm that our method has good performance.
Objectives: The study aimed to examine whether healthy diet score was associated with stress and social support among 472 Chinese college students in Korea. Methods: The study participants were 472 (187 male, 285 female) Chinese college students in Gyeong-gi area. From April 2013 to Oct 2013, participants were asked to fill out questionnaires on healthy diet score (20 questions), stress (20 questions), and social support (20 questions). Each question was scored by a 5-point Likert scale (total scores of each questionnaire were ranged from 20 to 100). Questions on healthy diet were sub-categorized as 'Healthy food eating (HFE)', 'Healthy eating habits (HEH)', and 'Avoidance of unhealthy food (AUF)'. Reliability test was conducted with Cronbach's ${\alpha}lpha$ (${\alpha}=0.79$). Results: Healthy diet score was higher in participants who stayed longer in Korea, who spoke Korean language fluently, and who assessed his or her own health status as very good. Adjusted means of healthy diet scores were estimated after adjusting for age, gender, body mass index, duration of staying, and Korean language fluency. According to tertile categories, participants with low tertile stress but high tertile social support showed the highest score of healthy diet ($72.59{\pm}1.45$), whereas participants with high tertile of stress but low tertile of social support had the lowest score of healthy diet ($59.22{\pm}1.54$). As for the three sub-categories of healthy diet score, the score of HFE increased as the score of social support increased. Conclusions: Our findings suggested that social support system is beneficial to alleviate stress and to improve healthy diet score.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of social anxiety disorder (SAD) and its association with psychosocial factors including self-esteem, ego-resiliency, and social support in a sample of medical students. Methods : A total of 405 medical students were included in this study. Subjects were asked to complete a self-reported questionnaire, measures of the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN), the Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), the Ego-Resiliency Scale (ERS), and the Duke-UNC Functional Social Support Questionnaire (DUFSS). The SAD and non-SAD group were defined using the SPIN score of 25 as a cut-off. The multiple regression analyses were performed to examine the association of self-esteem, ego-resiliency, and social support with SAD symptoms. Results : A total of 79 subjects (19.5%) were identified with SAD. The total RSES score, ERS score, and DUFSS score were significantly lower in the SAD group than the non-SAD group. The total SPIN score negatively correlated with the total RSES score (r=-0.481, p<0.001), the ERS score (r=-0.417, p<0.001), and the DUFSS score (r=-0.406, p<0.001). In the multiple regression, SAD symptoms were associated with self-esteem (β=-0.549, p<0.001), ego-resiliency (β=-0.395, p<0.001), and social support (β=-0.346, p<0.001).
