  • The Demilitarized Zone(DMZ) is a buffer zone set between the southern and northern limit lines established after the 1953 Armistice Agreement. It is an important natural environment conservation area where wild species of animals and plants live. On the other hand, the development pressure on the DMZ will increase when the inter-Korean economic cooperation is activated in the future. As a result, DMZ development should consider not only the economic cost-benefit aspects, but also how to assess and conserve the biodiversity of the DMZ, as well as the recovery costs and budget. This paper develope a sustainable DMZ management model under biodiversity uncertainly by using real option approach. The model is also designed to reflect the political risk and regional specificity of the DMZ. Through empirical analysis, I derive the biodiversity threshold (b*) that can secure the DMZ investment economy under uncertainty. In addition, through the sensitivity analysis, I derive the factors influencing the biodiversity threshold, and suggest the policy implications for sustainable management of DMZ.

  • Power plant is the important infrastructure to generate electricity. This plant in normally located next to river and seashore in order to take cooling water through intake. However, the plant is stopped when marine organism blocks the intake, and it caused damages by social and commercial. Therefore, air bubble barrier has been used to block marine organism in order to operate the plant properly. The aim of this study was to test the rates of cut off of floating substance by air bubble barrier to develop the facility for the plant. The test was conducted by current velocity, pressure of air, specific gravity of the substance and the layer of the barrier, and the result showed the blocking rates by the condition. It will be used as basic data to develop the air bubble barrier and to operate power plant properly from the marine organism.

  • Currently, due to the serious world-wide air pollution by substances emitted from vehicles, emission control is enforced more firmly and it is expected that the regulation requirements for emission will become more severe. A new concept combustion technology that can reduce the NOx and PM in relation to combustion is urgently required. Due to such social requirement, technologically advanced countries are making efforts to develop an environment-friendly vehicle engine at the nation-wide level in order to respond to the reinforced emission control. As a core combustion technology among new combustion technologies for the next generation engine, the homogenous charge compression ignition(HCCI) is expanding its application range by adopting multiple combustion mode, catalyst, direct fuel injection and partially premixed combustion. This study used a 2-staged injection method in order to apply the HCCI combustion method without significantly altering engine specifications in the aspect of multiple combustion mode and practicality by referring to the results of studies on the HCCI engine. In addition, this study confirmed the possibility of securing optimum fuel economy emission reduction in the IMEP 8bar range(which could not be achieved with existing partially premixed combustion) through forced charging, exhaust gas recirculation(EGR), compression ratio change and application of DOC catalyst.

  • In modern society, the amount of alcohol ingestion is increasing at a dangerous level, especially among women. One of reason for increased alcohol consumption is stress caused by social pressures. Alcohol is a kind of depressant of centric nervous system, so it can induce relaxation of body and decrease the stress. The evidence on the effects of alcohol on the fetus is somewhat hazy, whereas that of smoking is quite clear. The literature on the ingestion of alcohol strongly suggests that drinking during pregnancy is associated with teratogenic effect and low birth weight. Therefore, the adverse effect of alcohol ingestion during pregnancy must be informed to public. More remarkable warning sign about alcohol ingestion must be attached on the top of bottles. This can be an effective measure for public education. Also legal sanction or tax imposition for the production of liquor be required. First of all, drinking habit or drinking culture must be changed. In fact, the strongest motivation of drinking in adolescent is a peer pressure which is related to drinking habit or culture. Secondly, early detection and treatment must be required to prevent from fetal alcohol syndrome. Accordingly, drinking history of pregnant women must be assessed as early as possible and health professional should give a warning about the abstinence of alcohol to drinking women. Thirdly, to minimize the adverse effects for mother, withdrawal syndrome by alcohol ingestion must be treated. to correct the malformation by fetal alcohol syndrome(FAS) can be corrected. Sometimes surgical intervention may be required for this purpose.

  • Coastal dunes have many environmental and ecological socio-economic importances; various human activities, however, have impaired their structures and functions over the years. In 2016, environmental survey on coastal sand dune was carried out to report the present status and update the coastal sand dune list in 2001. This research analyzed the survey data in terms of geomorphological and socio-economic aspects. A list of the 189 coastal sand dune and information was updated by province. A 36.5% reduction in coastal sand dune area have been identified for using agricultural land, development area since the approximately 1940-50s. Development area in coastal sand dune covered small area as 5%, the use intensity was relatively hard. Furthermore, the difference by province also showed. Approximately 80% of the development area was concentrated in 20% of total sand dune several sand dune. It is generally accepted that coastal sand dunes were exposed high development pressure. However the result means that the general brief dose not apply for all sand dune. Therefore, characteristics of each sand dune should be analyzed and concerned the diverse management plans.

  • Telometer is a supplementary filming device that improves the image quality and minimizes the motion unsharpness by enhancing the reproducibility of diagnostic images because it applies constant pressure (force) to the affected area. The stress-radiogram which is widely used to provide the o-bjective quantitative stability of knee ligament is reported in literature as the most suitable method to evaluate the stability of ligament and it is advised to use the Telometer. In order to evaluate the image reproducibility of the Telometer, the collateral ligament which is the most vulnerable among the ligaments consisting of the knee joint, the stress-radiogram was executed in the order of the Telometer, the push pull gauge and the conventional stress radiogram. Then, SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) for Windows 22.0 was used for comparison and evaluation. According to the results of comparison and evaluation, the standard errors and standard deviations became smaller in the order of the Telometer, the push pull gauge, the conventional stress radiogram while the image reproducibility was higher in the order of the Telometer, the push pull gauge, the conventional stress radiogram. Therefore, it is considered that the use of the TELOS for stress-radiogram would enhance the quality of patient diagnostic images and the work performance of radiologists.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of family life stress and family values on marital stability among middle-aged couples. The subjects included a total of 302 men and women aged 45-64 who had been married for more than 20 years and were living in Seoul. The collected data were statistically analyzed with the SPSS 21.0 Package. First, Cronbach's alpha was calculated to measure the reliability of the scale that assessed the variables of the research model. Then, mean and standard deviation were calculated to determine the degrees of family life stress, family values, and marital stability among the subjects. Finally, a hierarchical multiple regression analysis was performed to identify factors that affected the subjects' marital stability. The results revealed that the level of family life stress in middle-aged married men and women was slightly higher than the mean value. Of all the sub-scales of family life stress, the subjects were found to experience the most stress from factors related to financial pressure, followed by family relationships, a sense of loss within a family, and work-family compatibility. Therefore, financial problems were one of the critical stressors for middle-aged married couples. Also, for this demographic, the levels of family values and marital stability were higher than the medians. The factors affecting marital stability in middle-aged couples were identified to be family relationship stress, financial stress, subjective economic status, family values, stress related to work-familycompatibility,religion,andage.Thedegreeofmaritalstabilitywashigherinmiddle-agedcouplesa stheirstresslevelsfromfamilyrelationshipsandfinancialproblemswerelower. Moreover, thehigherthes ubjectiveeconomicstatusandthemoretraditionalthefamilyvalues, thehigherthedegreeofmaritalstabili ty.Finally,marriedcoupleswhowerereligioushadalowerlevelofstressfromwork-family compatibility, and the younger the couples, the higher the degree of marital stability.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze in-depth the nurses' experience of hospital work and the factors affecting career interruption of nurses. For this purpose, 20 inactive nurses aged 26-55 participated in interviews about their experience as nurses, characteristics of nursing work, and reasons for retirement, and applied the analysis method of Colaizzi among phenomenological research methods. The analysis resulted in 104 significant statements, 17 formulated meanings, 6 clusters of theme, and 2 categories. The two categories are nursing work characteristics and work environment characteristics. In the characteristics of nursing work, there are four clusters of theme of 'time pressure', 'lack of autonomy', 'physical and emotional labor', 'low wage increase', and in the characteristics of nursing work environment, there are two clusters of theme of 'physical environment' and 'human environment'. Therefore, in order to improve the nurse career interruption, efforts should be made to alleviate excessive work intensity, raise the appropriate level of pay and provide a safe working environment.

  • School closures during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have been outlined in studies from different disciplines, including economics, sociology, mathematical modeling, epidemiology, and public health. In this review, we discuss the implications of school closures in the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Modeling studies of the effects of school closures, largely derived from the pandemic influenza model, on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 produced conflicting results. Earlier studies assessed the risk of school reopening by modeling transmission across schools and communities; however, it remains unclear whether the risk is due to increased transmission in adults or children. The empirical findings of the impact of school closures on COVID-19 outbreaks suggest no clear effect, likely because of heterogeneity in community infection pressure, differences in school closure strategies, or the use of multiple interventions. The benefits of school closings are unclear and not readily quantifiable; however, they must be weighed against the potential high social costs, which can also negatively affect the health of this generation.
