  • This paper aims to empirically examine how personal characteristics and social influence affect user acceptance of mobile web browsing service. To examine the intention to use mobile web browsing service, we applied the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) which has been widely used to explain and predict the IT acceptance to this study. This research also includes personal characteristics such as computer self-efficacy, mobile self-efficacy, and personal innovativeness in IT and social influences such as subjective norms, image, and visibility as the external variables of the TAM. The results indicate that computer self-efficacy do not directly influence ease of use, but indirectly through mobile self-efficacy. And the results indicate that mobile self-efficacy and personal innovativeness in IT have direct effects on ease of use. Empirical results also show that subjective norms and image affect usefulness. Additional theoretical and practical implications of these findings are also discussed in the paper.

  • Purpose - The study aims to provide the relationships between the social servicescape and customer's emotion and voluntary behaviors were investigated in this study. The social servicescape was largely divided into service employee's image and other customers (in customer's similarity, physical appearance and suitable behavior). Firstly, the relationship between service employee's image and customer's positive emotion was investigated as a specific purpose of study. Secondly, this study attempted to understand the relationship between other customers (in customer's similarity, physical appearance and suitable behavior) and customer's positive emotion. Lastly, the relationship between customer's positive emotion and customer's voluntary behavior dimension (intention to cooperate, intention to participate in and loyalty) was examined. Research design, data, & methodology - In order to prove the hypotheses in this study, the customers who have experienced family restaurants during the last two months were targeted for a survey. A total number of 300 survey papers were distributed and as a result, 248 papers could be used for analysis, except the papers with insincere answers. After the analysis of the reliability and validity of each major variable, the hypothesis was verified through the structure method by using Amos 20.0. Results - First, the results of hypothesis testing on the relationship between social servicescape and customer's positive emotion showed service employee image gives a positively meaningful impact on customer's positive emotion. Secondly, the results on the relationship between other customers and customer's positive emotion indicated that the customer's similarity and physical appearance has a positively significant impact on customer's emotion while customer's suitable behavior has not a significantly positive impact on customer's positive emotion Lastly, customer's positive emotion was shown to have a significantly positive influence on customer's voluntary behavior dimension, that is, intention to cooperate, intention to participate in and loyalty. Conclusions - This study aims to focus on and emphasize the social servicescape and its importance, which is different from the previous studies that have been focused largely on physical servicescape. Such results in this study indicated the social servicescape (service employee's image and other customers) as an important factor that affects customer's positive emotion and voluntary behavior.

  • This study aimed to examine the relationship between body image satisfaction and breast self-screening behaviors and intentions. The sample for this cross-sectional study consisted of 842 female university students who were recruited from a number of public and private universities. Data were obtained between the months of November and December, 2013, using multistage random cluster sampling. Main research variables were breast cancer screening behavior and intentions, demographic factors, and the total scores on each of the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ-Appearance Scales) subscales. Results of multivariate analysis showed that having higher satisfaction and more positive evaluation of appearance were related to having performed breast self-examination more frequently in the last year and intending to perform breast self-examination more frequently in the next year. Longitudinal research can potentially provide detailed information about overall body image satisfaction and breast cancer screening behavior among various communities.

  • This study focuses on the relationship between ethnic identity of Asian-Americans and their appreciation of their ethnic body features, based on reference group theory. A convenience sample of 60 male and 52 female students from various Asian ethnicities attending a mid-western university was used for the study. A 2 (gender) by 2 (ethnic identification) by 2 (socializing group) analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) on body image satisfaction as dependent variable and Body Mass Index score as a covariate was conducted. A significant main effect of ethnic identification was found, which indicates the more respondents identified with their ethnic group, the more likely they were to be satisfied with their appearance. The social group affiliation main effect was not significant. The impact of ethnic identification was significant only for those respondents who socialize more with Americans than with Asians. The results support the idea that one's ethnic group functions as a reference group, which influences body image appraisals.

Clothing consumption value is a direct value that people seek with clothing products and a perceived value which is divided into emotional, social, price, quality values. Fashion image which is a feeling communicated to others by wearing a certain fashion style is the most superficial value. Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) was performed to test the differences between regional subculture groups in clothing consumption values and desired fashion images. We found some differences in clothing consumption value specifically in emotional value and social value. The group differences were remarkably significant in fashion image comparison. 'Kang-nam' group pursued 'lively', 'sophisticated', 'charming', feminine', 'gorgeous' image more than 'Kang-buk' group. While 'Kang-buk' group produced lower scores in ideal fashion images, the group had significant higher seeking in 'sportive' image compared to 'Kangnam' group.

  • Studies in social science are performed on the language of social actors. While a metaphor analysis focuses on the meaning of the language, a cognitive map analysis deals with its external relationships. If we can put together both analyses, it will be possible to investigate the internal meanings and external relationship of the language and image at the same time. In this paper, metaphor analysis and cognitive map approach is applied to find the image of local governments. This study shows how to link metaphor analysis to the cognitive map and the benefit of using both approaches together.

However, there are few studies done on the effects of social media use on crisis perception. The goal of this study is to examine how social media affect an organization's ability to manage crises. The study specifically tries to investigate how media types, organization-public relationships, and image restoration strategies affect the public's perception of crises. An experiment was conducted to test research questions by presenting crisis scenarios and observing how newspapers and the social media Twitter affected the crisis. According to a three-way ANOVA test, the type of media and image restoration strategies had an interaction effect on the public's perception of crises. Also, the type of media, organization-public relationship, and image restoration strategies had a three way effect toward the acceptance of crisis communication strategies. As a result, it can be said that the public's perception and acceptances of crisis communication were different depending on the type of media used. The effectiveness of social media was proved, and it was seen that to be able to effectively use social media, each organization must have different strategies depending on their needs.

Several differences in beliefs were also noted(p<0.001). The attempt group believed less strongly in the harmful effects or difficulties in weight control and believed more strongly in the advantages of weight control. With respect to social factors, the attempt group perceived that their family and friends wanted them to be smaller than they were(p<0.001), perceived that significant others felt that they should lose weight(p<0.05). These results suggest that educational programs for college female students should start focusing on the harmful effects of excessive dieting and information about desirable weight control methods. In addition, educational programs should incorporate strategies to change beliefs regarding weight control, as well as modifying social expectations from significant others.
