  • Drought vulnerability index was developed by selecting drought-related indicators with trend test. Study areas were determined by considering the weir locations from the four major rivers restoration project in Nakdong and Geum river watersheds. Ten indicators were selected and they were categorized into three groups, water resources, precipitation pattern, and social aspects. Annual average surface water level, annual minimum surface water level, annual average groundwater level, and annual minimum groundwater level data sets were collected for water resources aspects. The number of non-rainy days, rainfall concentration ratio, and rainfall deviation were considered for precipitation pattern category. The amount of water available per capita, financial soundness for water resources, and water usage equity were related to social aspects. Mann-Kendall, Hotelling-Pabst, and Sen trend tests were performed for the ten indicator data sets and the results were scored for the drought vulnerability index. The results shows Gumi, Sangjoo, and Hapcheon weirs are relatively vulnerable to drought. The indices were relatively low for the regions in Geum river watershed compared to those in Nakdong river watershed.

  • Paying attention to the notable social problem occured by the confusion of values in the modern industrialized society changed rapidly, this study aimed to examine the values of nurses which lie at the heart of the diverse universe of their behavior considering their activities and professionalism influencing the applicants directly. The applicants for this study were 173 nurses selected randomly from both hospitals of rKJ located in Inchon and ry J located in Seoul. $\ulcorner$K$lrcorner$ The findings from this study were as follows; 1) Values of nurses In the Spranger's six personality category of values, the religious value was found to be the most important for the nurses, and followed by social value. These facts are thought to be disirable and hopeful very much reflecting the philosophical basis of nursing, that is, humanitarianism. But the theoretical value marked the lowest point that probably mean the lack of nurse's theoretical conditions which should be essential for the nursing professionalism. Thus it is suggested that the measures for encouraging the nurses or nursing students to have more interest in the educational training courses and schooling. 2) Analysis of relationship between the nurse's general characteristics and their values CD There were no differences statistically in values relating to the professional career and occupation. The nurses without religion placed, naturally, the lower religious value (t= 4.28. p=.000) than the nurses with religion. but placed higher aesthetic value(t=-2.82. p=.006) showing significant statistical differences. (3) Nurses from the 3-year program got the higher aesthetic value(t=3.07, p=.003) than those from the diploma program. but got the lower religious value (t = -2.05. p =.041) showing significant statistical differences. (4) The singles placed the higher aesthetic value (t= 2.21. p =.028) than those married in significant statistically.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to understand what are the experiences and management of type 2 diabetes in everyday lives among Korean people. Methods: A grounded theory method was utilized to explore how people with type 2 diabetes to experience and manage their disease under the Korean socio-cultural context. The data were collected via narrative in-depth interviews with 21 people with type 2 diabetes during 2010-2011 and all interviews were transcribed for verbatim analysis. Results: The core category was 'Rearranging everyday lives by accepting diabetes as lifelong annoying companion.' Four stages were identified: ignoring; struggling compromising and conciliating. Each stage illustrates major problems and/or strategies that the participants face in dealing with diabetes. The process illustrates the transference from their ordinary life, in which diabetes or health was ignored, to the health-oriented life, within which diabetes is integrated into their lives. The most difficult barriers they faced in everyday lives include social stigma of diabetes and collectivistic culture in Korea. Within the culture, the group goals are concerned over individual ones, making it harder for the participants to take care of their own health. Conclusion: The findings of the study imply that health care professionals may consider the influence of social stigma in caring diabetic patients. Also, the intervention study is warranted to educate Korean people with diabetes to get aware of the sociocultural context and stigma as well as personal difficulties in self-caring diabetes.

  • Through the new round DDA(Doha Development Agenda) negotiations which started in Doha/Qatar conference in November, 2001, service industries have been included in the category of international trades. An electronic commerce cannot be exceptional in this field. The 21st century is largely recognized as the era of globalization, knowledge, and information. To make effective and competitive strategy in this century, it is essentially required to organize Network. OPEN, and FU-PLEX. That is why our government also has been promoting this field since years before, now 10,000,000 people in Korea have joined superhighway internet networks. Korea became the top internet-developed country in the world. As a side-effect of this internet spread into our life, however, there is serious problem we are now faced against. That is the outflow of private information through electronic commerce and other cyber transactions. It has caused many social problems to be rapidly on the rise these days. We are now desperately required to struggle continuously to make a solution for that. Taking the precedent case of Germany and United States which are currently recognized as high-leveled country in protection of private information, we have to come up with legal and technical measures and at the same time, to escalate the social consciousness about private information protection.

  • In clothing, a tendency of Bisexuality is in case of wearing clothing of the opposite sex, the mixing of modeling principle and characteristic of man and woman, the exclusion characteristic of sexuality that present sexlessness-the third sex. They-Designer Gabrielle Chanel, YSL, Giorgio Armani-give characteristic of man's fashion to women's fashion. However, the consciousness in design is different. Chanel apply principle of man's suit to woman's wear to express authority and power about gender image, hereby she express women liberation and equality of man and woman based on social ideology through fashion especially, she express women's sexual independency and self assurance to her clothing. YSL express liberal and bold women that pursuit reasonal and liberal life in 1970. As he apply tailoed suit's rigidity to women's wear, he made 'pants look' universal in women's wear through“Dress for success”in modern life. Armani apply successful modern image to women's wear, so he express women's image of confident intellegent as well as feminine image. He focus women's new image as man living liberal and indivisual life excluding social category rather than will of equality of man and women. Gernreich break sexual prejudice and release women freely, furthermore, as he express concern of sexuality pursuit liberty of mankind surpassing sex distinction with women liberty. Gianni Versace pursuit mix and extinguishment of sexual image many-sided, and break fixed idea of sex, and reprovide feminine and masculine image. So his design tend homosexuality because he regard women's glamor and ostensible sexuality as standard of beauty, he apply this to man's wear as well as women's wear. With this, he expresses sensitive and liberal man's that break characteristic of Gender that symbolize power and authority in man's wear through 'Without ties'.

  • This essay interrogates the category of the 'global' in the emerging domain of 'global intellectual history'. Through a case study of the Indian social-religious reformer Rammohun Roy (1772/4-1833), I argue that notions of global selfhood and rights-consciousness (which have been preoccupying concerns of recent debates in intellectual history) have multiple conceptual and practical points of origin. Thus in early colonial India a person like Rammohun Roy could invoke centuries-old Indic terms of globality (vishva, jagat, sarva, sarvabhuta, etc.), selfhood (atman/brahman), and notions of right (adhikara) to liberation/salvation (mukti/moksha) as well as late precolonial discourses on 'worldly' rights consciousness (to life, property, religious toleration) and models of participatory governance present in an Indo-Islamic society, and hybridize these with Western-origin notions of rights and liberties. Thereby Rammohun could challenge the racial and confessional assumptions of colonial authority and produce a more deterritorialized and non-sectarian idea of selfhood and governance. However, Rammohun's comparativist world-historical notions excluded other models of selfhood and globality, such as those produced by devotional Vaishnava, Shaiva, and Shakta-Tantric discourses under the influence of non-Brahmanical communities and women. Rammohun's puritan condemnation of non-Brahmanical sexual and gender relations created a homogenized and hierarchical model of globality, obscuring alternate subaltern-inflected notions of selfhood. Class, caste, and gender biases rendered Rammohun supportive of British colonial rule and distanced him from popular anti-colonial revolts and social mobility movements in India. This article argues that today's intellectual historians run the risk of repeating Rammohun's biases (or those of Hegel's Weltgeschichte) if they privilege the historicity and value of certain models of global selfhood and rights-consciousness (such as those derived from a constructed notion of the 'West' or from constructed notions of various 'elite' classicized 'cultures'), to the exclusion of models produced by disenfranchised actors across the world. Instead of operating through hierarchical assumptions about local/global polarity, intellectual historians should remain sensitive to and learn from the universalizable models of selfhood, rights, and justice produced by actors in different spatio-temporal locations and intersections.

  • This study was conducted to provide the basic information for nursing intervention in infant teach. ing and feeding situation. The subjects were 30 pairs of mother and her infant(9 month) who were normally delivered at 3 university hospital in Seoul area. The data collection was conducted by observation using videotaperecord from September 27, 1989 to Feburary 26, 1990 in their home. The measulsement tools used by this researcher were Nursing child Assessment Teaching scale (NCATS) and Nursing child Assessment Feeding Scale(NCAFS) which was developed by Barnard. The higher sum of "yes" score means the higher mother-infant interaction level. Mother-Infant interaction behaviors in both sitution were based on 6 subcategories; sensitivity to cue, response to distress, social-emotional growth fostering, cognitive growth 'fostering, clarity of + cues, and responsiveness to parent. The data collected through above method were analyzed by mean and t-test and the results were as follows. 1. The sum of maternal behavior score was 40.2 out of 50.0 in teaching situation and 37.9 out of 50.0 in feeding situation. Out of the 4 subcategories on maternal behavior in both situation, the highest subcategory was shown by response to infant's distress and the lowest subcategory by cegnitive growth fostering. 2. The sum of infant behavior score was 14.7 out of 23 in teaching situation and 17.9 out of 26 in feeding situation. Out of the 2 categories on infant behavior in both situation, the highest sub categroy was shown by the clarity of infant's cue in both situation. 3. There was a statistical significance between father's educational level and mother-infant interaction in teaching situation; college group was higher than high school group, particulary in category of sensitivity to infant's cue and congnitive growth fostering. 4. • The purpose of this study was to understand the experiences of work-family reconciliation of Korean nonprofit organization workers. To achieve this purpose, researchers collected data from in-depth interviews and analysed the data through qualitative case study approach that is useful to reveal the invisible phenomenon. As results, the researchers found several categories that were related to work-family reconciliation and experiences in those categories. Specifically, 'the richer-get-richer' in the category of institution, 'organizational culture is important', 'can use but also not', 'the pure value of work' in the work, 'struggling: acceptance and easing my mind' in the family and finally 'measuring and tightrope' in between the work and family. Penetrating analysis of the nature of these found three themes, 'ultimate choice, nonprofit', 'proper than the best: a tipped scale is also balanced', 'systems are living things: ever-changing'. Based on these findings, researchers suggested several policies and practical alternatives to support work-family reconciliation of NPOs and their workers in Korea.
