Germination percentage of Korean native lily seeds was high at $20-25^{\circ}C$. It was almost 100% in L. cernuum, L. callosum, L. amabile, and L. concolor, 88.0% in L. lancifolium, and 73.0% in L. maximowitzii, respectively. Meanwhile, it was low rate of 34.0%-54.0% in L. distichum, L. hansonii, and L. tsingtauense. Germination was mostly delayed of $15^{\circ}C$ and days to germination were more shortened in species with higher germination percentage. Even though the effect of daylength was not considerable in germination rate, it was promoted in L. maximowitzii but it was delyed in L. hansonii under long day. The effect of soaking in hot PGRs solution in L. callosum, L. cernuum, L. amabile, L. lancifolium, and L. concolor did not show any difference in comparison with non-treatment. However, it was improved by BA in L. maximowitzii. Longer period of cold wet storage resulted in improved germination percentage in L. maximowitzii and L. lancifolium, while it affected decreased percentage in L. distichum and L. hansonii. Days to germination were shortened by longer period of cold wet storage regardless of species. Germination percentage in dry storage was higher under cold temperature than room temperature and under desiccator storage than outside desiccator, it was highest under desiccator storage at $4^{\circ}C$. It was drastically reduced by the non-use desiccator storage at room temperature L. concolor, however it was improved only by the use of desiccator L. maximowitzii for a long time.

In addition to causing direct feeding damage to a variety of greenhouse crops, Frankliniella occidentalis also inflicts indirect harm by facilitating the transmission of the tomato spotted wilt virus. Historically, the prevention of F. occidentalis infestations has relied heavily on pesticide use. However, this approach has led to significant side effects in agricultural ecosystems, including the development of pest resistance and challenges in effective prevention. In response to these issues, research has been directed towards identifying alternative substances that circumvent the tolerance developed against chemical pesticides. Extracts from sixty-seven medicinal plants were prepared by soaking them in water for 24 hours at room temperature. These extracts were then applied to adult F. occidentalis, with particular attention to moutan extract treatment. This treatment demonstrated a 100% insecticidal effect on the first day. The moutan extract, specifically, was prepared using 50% ethanol, after which the ethanol and water were removed via a rotary evaporator. The resultant product was then lyophilized into a powder and used after being diluted with water. In indoor experiments, a 40% diluted solution was sprayed onto F. occidentalis, exhibiting a 100% insecticidal effect 24 hours post-treatment. Furthermore, a pot test indicated a 78% insecticidal effect on the first day of application. Ongoing research includes the analysis of active substances that demonstrate exceptional insecticidal properties and the conduct of on-site validation tests. The application of the aforementioned extract is anticipated to be effective in the prevention of F. occidentalis infestations.
Statement of problem: Recently, as patients' expectation and interest for esthetics are increasing, concerns of esthetic restoration for removable dentures as well as fixed prosthodontics are also increasing. And the color stability of artificial teeth will affect a long term success rate of the denture. But the stain or discoloration of these artificial teeth as well as denture resin has caused esthetic problem. Purpose: This study was designed to evaluate the influence on color stability of artificial teeth when soy sauce, red pepper paste and coffee which many Koreans have eaten were applied. Material and methods: For artificial teeth type(Endura $Anterio^{(R)}$, Physio $Duracross^{(R)}$, Trubyte $Biotone^{(R)}$) selected for the study, 10 specimens each were soaked into individual beakers of soy sauce, red pepper paste, coffee and distilled water. And $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$ value were measured for evaluation of the color difference (${\Delta}E^*$) with spectrophotometer on the 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 8 weeks after immersion. Results: 1. ${\Delta}E^*$ value of artificial teeth which were soaked in soy sauce and coffee was various according to soaking periods. However there was significant difference between Trubyte $Biotone^{(R)}$ and Physio $Duracross^{(R)}$ in red pepper paste regardless of soaking period(P<.05). 2. Except for 8 weeks of Endura $Anterio^{(R)}$, 4 weeks and 8 weeks of Physio $Duracross^{(R)}$, artificial teeth soaked in red pepper paste regardless of the type had significant difference of ${\Delta}E^*$ value compared with other groups (P<.05). 3. $a^*$, $b^*$ value of Endura $Anterio^{(R)}$ and Trubyte $Biotone^{(R)}$ which were soaked in red pepper paste had significant difference compared with the value of other group(P<.05). Conclusion: Red pepper paste had the greatest effect on color difference of artificial tooth. Physio $Duracross^{(R)}$ showed relatively less color difference than Trubyte $Biotone^{(R)}$ and Endura $Anterio^{(R)}$. But as ${\Delta}E^*$ difference were all less than 3.3, these artificial resin teeth seemed appropriate for clinical use.

Benzyladenopurine (BA), a synthetic chemical commonly used for bean sprout culture, should be minimized for wellbeing foods or not be applied. The study was done to check the effect of different BA concentrations treated during 5 hour imbibition on growth and morphological characters of mungbean sprouts. The mungbean seeds of 3 cultivars (Keumseongnogdu, Owoolnogdu, and Zhong Lu 1) were imbibed for 5 hours in the solutions with different BA concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 ppm) before 3 hour aeration. On the 6th day after culture, the mungbean sprouts were classified by 4 categories on the base of hypocotyl length; > 7cm, 4 to 7cm, < 4cm, and non-germination, and their morphological characters, fresh and dry weights were measured. Regardless of cultivars the composition rate of hypocotyls of longer than 7cm was decreased with increased BA concentration over 50 ppm while the reverse result was true in the rate of shorter than 4cm. In the rate of 4 to 7cm. cv. Owoolnogdu showed the highest rate in its 50 ppm concentration although cv. Keumseongnogdu and Zhong Lu 1 showed similar result to the above two rates. Formation rate and its number of lateral roots were largely changed around 50 ppm concentration but the roots was not formed in over its 75 ppm concentration. Hypocotyl and root lengths of all the cultivars were shortened with increased BA concentration. In the diameter of middle part of hypocotyl, 3 cultivars showed nearly the same responses as the rate of 4 to 7cm hypocotyls. Hypocotyl and total fresh weights per sprout were heavier in BA treated sprouts than in no treated ones but the weights of the former sprouts were not influenced by its different concentrations.
Tetragonia tetragonides is a medicinal plant native to ocean sand soil of southern provinces and has significant effects on the prevention and curing of gastroenteric disorders. Despite of its popularity, supply of the plant has never met the level of demand because of the absence of an adequate culturing method. The present study, thereby, was conducted for classifying the plants with geographically different characteristics, studying growth habits, developing a new culturing method and establishing a large scale propagation system of selected superior individual plants. The study was also aimed for revealing optimum conditions for seed treatment, fertilization, and efficient culturing system and thereby, for utilizing the plant as a new income source for rural communities. The seed was elongated with size of 2.6 mm (width) ${\times}$ 1.8 mm (length). No difference in seed size was observed depending on different inhabitate. Each flower produced about 4.5~4.8 seeds. Germination rate was high for seeds matured for 40 days after fertilization, but deceased to 50% for seeds matured only for 20 or 30 days. Seed dormancy lasted 6 months and seed storage at humid $5^{\circ}C$ facilitated germination. Mechanical obstruct of seed germination was due to seed coat and removal of seed coat enhanced the germination rate. Optimum temp. for seed storage was $5^{\circ}C$, and high germination rate was maintained for 350 days. However, for stratification condition or at room temperature, germination was significantly reduced as storage time increased Optimum treatment of plant growth regulators was soaking in $GA_3$ 250 mg/L for 1 hr. The priming treatment with 50 mM $Ca(NO_3)_2$ at $20^{\circ}C$ for two days improved the seed germination with 10% compared to non-treated control. The treatment of 20% NaOCl for 3 hr. improved the seed germination rate up to 10% and 1 day ahead.
Parboiling, a popular technology used to protect rice from nutrient loss during milling and to increase the shelf-life of rice, was applied to barley kernels, and its effect on nutrient retention and chemical composition was evaluated. Before 36 days after ear emergence, barley kernels showed water content higher than 40%, and parboiling without presoaking resulted in at least 43% of gelatinization degree. This implies that soaking, an important step of parboiling, is dispensable for barley at milky stage. Parboiling did make little change in the appearance of the kernel after 31 days from ear emergence. Nonreducing sugars such as sucrose and raffinose remained unchanged while reducing sugars of barley was decreased by parboiling, with exception that maltose increased. Pearling led to decrease in crude protein, fat, fiber and minerals of barley sampled and parboiled on 36th day from ear emergence. Free sugars in the parboiled barley also was reduced with increasing pearling rate. Vitamin $B_1$ content of the parboiled barley was $260\;{\mu}g\;per\;100\;g$ as dry basis at 50% pearling rate, compared to $36\;{\mu}g$ for raw barley at same pearling rate. Thus parboiling appeared to be very effective in the retention of vitamin $B_1$ during pearling.
In this study, performance (particle removal efficiency and breathing resistance) of several commercially available face masks (electrostatic filter masks (KF80 certified), a nanofiber filter mask (KF80 certified), and an uncertified mask) with their filter structure and composition were evaluated. Also, effects of relative humidity (RH) of incoming air, water and alcohol exposure, and reusability on performance of face masks were examined. Monodisperse and polydisperse sodium chloride particles were used as test aerosols. Except the uncertified mask filter, PM2.5 removal efficiency was found to be higher than 90%, and the nanofiber filter mask had the highest quality factor due to the low pressure drop and high removal efficiency (nanofibers were arranged in a densely packed pore structure and contained a significant amount of fluorine in addition to carbon and oxygen). In the case of the KF80 certified mask, the removal efficiency was little affected when the RH of incoming air increased. When the mask filters were soaked in water, the removal efficiency of mask filters was degraded. In particular, the uncertified mask filter showed the highest removal efficiency degradation (26%). When the mask was soaked in alcohol, the removal efficiency also decreased with the greater degree than the water soaking case. The nanofiber mask filter showed the strongest resistance to alcohol exposure among tested mask filters. During evaluation of reusability of masks in real life, the removal efficiency of certified mask filter was less than 4% for 5 consecutive days (2 hours per day), while the removal efficiency of uncertified mask filter significantly decreased by 30% after 5 days.
Even though Ti-6Al-4V has gained popularity as an implant material, the possible dissolution of Al and V ions in body fluids remains a matter of concern. Though commercially pure Ti (Cp-Ti) overcomes this problem, the mechanical strength of pure titanium remains very low. Thus, in this experiment Cp-Ti was processed by Equal channel angular processing (ECAP), in order to increase the mechanical strength. The biocompatibility of ECAP-Ti, Cp-Ti and Ti-6Al-4V was examined by the apatite formation on each sample surface, after treating the surface with 5M NaOH and soaking in Simulated body fluids (SBF). Initially, the samples were mechanically polished on silicone carbide paper (#2000). The polished samples were treated with 5M NaOH solution at $60^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The NaOH treated samples were washed gently with distill water and dried at $40^{\circ}C$ for 1 day. The dried samples were heat treated in air at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The surface morphology of these samples were studied using SEM and XRD. The SEM studies showed network of pores in all samples. The XRD showed oxide layer formation on Cp-Ti and Ti-6Al-4V. samples. However the oxide layer in ECAP-Ti was not substantial. These samples were immersed in SBF, kept at $36.5^{\circ}C$ for seven days period. At the end of 7 days, the apatite formation was confirmed only on Cp-Ti and was not observed in Ti-6Al-4V and ECAP-Ti. These observations of apatite formation relate to the fact that Cp-Ti showed greater oxide layer than other samples. The apatite examined was confirmed as tricalcium phosphate (TCP) using EDS and XRD.

Background : Considerable time and effort is required to develop new Panax ginseng varieties. Ginseng breeders have been developing techniques to shorten the breeding cycle to resolve this problem. In this study, we investigated the effects of adding $GA_3$ and alternating temperature (AT, $2^{\circ}C{\rightarrow}-2^{\circ}C{\rightarrow}2^{\circ}C$) on breaking bud dormancy in the varieties (Chungsun and Sunun) of ginseng root. Methods and Results : The $GA_3$ soaking treatment and AT were applied to one year old roots, which greatly accelerated the emergence of new buds. In one year old roots, new buds emerged from the 4th day post transplanting and after breaking dormancy with $GA_3$ and AT treatments. The emergence of new buds was completed within two weeks. The rate of bud emergence for Chungsun was 60% - 98% over 15 - 60 days after the AT and $GA_3$ treatments. The emergence rate of Sunun was 46% - 92%. Normal growth of the ginseng seedling was observed in spite of the early breaking of bud dormancy by combined $GA_3$ and AT treatments. Conclusions : $GA_3$ and AT treatments shortened the dormancy period and facilitated the stable emergence of ginseng seedlings. However, some plants suffered deformities and early sprouting owing to the combined $GA_3$ and AT treatments. Early sprouting was free from dormancy after leaf fall from the of aerial part of the plant.
From June 28th to July 17th in 1985, this study was performed to obtain the information of the fresh corn forage production through the spraying hydrophonics in summer. The experiments were conducted in vinyl house on Kyungpook University's Experimental Station. The results obtained were as follows: It was suggested that the treatment of soaking for 24 hrs and followed by the pretreatment for 48 hrs was better than other treatments. Seed cost for the production of 1 kg fresh forage was the most inexpensive at the seeding rate of 450 g per $30{\times}60cm$ tray than other seeding rates. Application of 1000 times diluted Hyponex solution (1000X Hyponex) or 300 times diluted Yogen solution (300X Yogen) one time per day resulted in the heavier fresh weight than the other treatments. Treatments of 300X Yogen and 500X Yogen gave the better fresh weight in one application per two days and per three days, respectively. But, this method was not useful in summer because the lowest seed cost for the production 1kg fresh forage was 73Won, and collection of the fresh forage from the mountain range was easy.
