Undoped $SnO_x$ thin films were deposited on Si(100) substrate by using reactive ioassisted deposition technique (R-IAD). In order to investigate the effect of initial oxygen content and heat treatment on the oxidation state and crystalline structure of tin oxide films, $SnO_x$ thin films were post-annealed at 400~$600^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. in a vacuum ~$5 \times 10^{-3}$ -3/ Torr or were directly deposited on the substrate of $400^{\circ}C$ and the relative arrival ration ($Gamma$) of oxygen ion to Sn metal varied from 0.025 to 0.1, i.e., average impinging energy ($E_a$) form 25 to 100 eV/atom. As $E_a$ increased, the composition ratio of $N_ON{sn}$ changed from 1.25 to 1.93 in post-annealing, treatment and 1.21 to 1.87 in in-situ substrate heating. In case of post-annealing, the oxidation from SnO to $SnO_2$ was closely related to initial oxygen contents and post-annealing temperature, and the perfect oxidation of $SnO_2$ in the film was obtained at higher than $E_a$=75 eV/atom and $600^{\circ}C$. The temperature for perfect oxidation of $SnO_2$ was reduced as low as $400^{\circ}C$ through in-situ substrate heating. The variation of the chemical state of $SnO_x$ thin films with changing $E_a$'s and heating method were also observed by Auger electron spectroscopy.
Nowadays Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) solar cell is attracting a lot of attention as a strong alternative to CIGS solar cell due to nontoxic and inexpensive constituent elements of CZTS. From various processes for the fabrication of CZTS solar cell, solution-based deposition of CZTS thin films is well-known non-vacuum process and many researchers are focusing on this method because of large-area deposition, high-throughput, and efficient material usage. Typically the solution-based process consists of two steps, coating of precursor solution and annealing of the precursor thin films. Unlike vacuum-based deposition, precursor solution contains unnecessary elements except Cu, Zn, Sn, and S in order to form high quality precursor thin films, and thus the precise control of precursor thin film preparation is essential for achieving high efficient CZTS solar cells. In this work, we have investigated the effect of preparation condition of CZTS precursor thin films on the performance of CZTS solar cells. The composition of CZTS precursor solution was controlled for obtaining optimized chemical composition of CZTS absorber layers for high-efficiency solar cells. Pre-annealing process of the CZTS precursor thin films was also investigated to confirm the effect of thermal treatment on chemical composition and carbon residues of CZTS absorber layers. The change of the morphology of CZTS precursor thin film by the preparation condition was also observed.
This study reports the effects of $H_2S$ gas concentration on the properties of $Cu_2ZnSnS_4(CZTS)$ thin films. Specifically, sulfurization process with low $H_2S$ concentrations of 0.05% and 0.1%, along with 5% $H_2S$ gas, was studied. CZTS films were directly synthesized on Mo/Si substrates by chemical bath deposition method using copper sulfate, zinc sulfate heptahydrate, tin chloride dihydrate, and sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate. Smooth CZTS films were grown on substrates at optimized chemical bath deposition condition. The CZTS films sulfurized at low $H_2S$ concentrations of 0.05 % and 0.1% showed very rough and porous film morphology, whereas the film sulfurized at 5% $H_2S$ yielded a very smooth and dense film morphology. The CZTS films were fully crystallized in kesterite crystal form when they were sulfurized at $500^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The kesterite CZTS film showed a reasonably good room-temperature photoluminescence spectrum that peaked in a range of 1.4 eV to 1.5 eV, consistent with the optimal bandgap for CZTS solar cell applications.
$Cu_2$$ZnSnS_4$(CZTS) thin film is one of the candidate materials for the solar cell. It has an excellent optical absorption coefficient as well as appropriate 1.4~1.5eV band gap. The purpose of this study is replacing a half of high-cost Indium(In) atoms with low-cost Zinc(Zn) atoms and the other half with low-cost Tin(Sn) atoms in the lattice of CIS. Thin films were deposited on ITO glass substrates using a compact target which were made by $Cu_2$S, ZnS, SnS$_2$ powder at room temperature by rf magnetron sputtering and were annealed in the atmosphere of Ar and $S_2$(g). We investigated potentialities of a low-cost material for the solar cell by measuring of thin film composition, the structure and optical properties. We could get an appropriate $Cu_2$$ZnSnS_4$ composition. Structure was coarsened with increasing temperature and (112), (200), (220), (312) planes appeared to conform to all the reflection Kesterite structure. A (112) preferred orientation was advanced with increasing the annealing temperature as shown in the diffraction peaks of the CIS cells and was available for photovoltaic thin film materials. The band gap increased from 1.51 to 1.8eV as the annealing temperature increased. The optical absorption coefficient of the thin film was about $10^4$$cm^{-1}$.

In this work, we studied the influence of the dopant elements concentration on the properties of SnO2 thin films deposited by pulsed laser deposition. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Hall effect measurement and UV-Vis studies were performed to characterize the deposited films. XRD results showed that the films had polycrystalline nature with tetragonal rutile structure. FE-SEM micrographs revealed that the as deposited films composed of dense microstructures with uniform grain size distribution. All the films show n-type conduction and the best transparent conductive oxide (TCO) performance was obtained on 6 wt% Sb2O5 doped SnO2 film prepared at pO2 of 60mtorr and Ts of 500 ℃. Its resitivity, optical transmittance, figure of merit are 7.8 × 10-4 Ω cm, 85% and 1.2 × 10-2 Ω-1, respectively.
Recent study shows that the main reason for limiting CZTS device performance lies in the low open circuit voltage, and crucial factor that could affect the $V_{oc}$ is secondary phases like ZnS existing in absorber layer and its interfaces. In this work, the $Cu_2ZnSnS_4$ thin film solar cells were prepared by sputtering CuSn and CuZn alloy targets. Through tuning the Zn/Sn ratios of the CZTS thin films, the crystal structure, morphology, chemical composition and phase purity of CZTS thin films were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and Raman spectroscopy. The statistics data show that the CZTS solar cell with a ratio of Zn/Sn = 1.2 have the best power convention efficiency of 5.07%. After HCl etching process, the CZTS thin film solar cell with the highest efficiency 5.41% was obtained, which demonstrated that CZTS film solar cells with high efficiency could be developed by sputtering CuSn and CuZn alloy targets.
ZnSnO thin films were deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) process using diethyl zinc ($Zn(C_2H_5)_2$) and tetrakis (dimethylamino) tin ($Sn(C_2H_6N)_4$) as metal precursors and water vapor as a reactant. ALD process has several advantages over other deposition methods such as precise thickness control, good conformality, and good uniformity for large area. The composition of ZnSnO thin films was controlled by varying the ratio of ZnO and $SnO_2$ ALD cycles. The ALD ZnSnO film was an amorphous state. The band gap of ZnSnO thin films increased as the Sn content increased. The CIGS solar cell using ZnSnO buffer layer showed about 18% energy conversion efficiency. With such a high efficiency with the ALD ZnSnO buffer and no light soaking effect, AlD ZnSnO buffer mighty be a good candidate to replace Zn(S,O) buffer in CIGSsolar cells.

$H_2S$ micro-gas sensors have been developed employing $SnO_2$:CuO composite thin films. The films were prepared by e-beam evaporation of Sn and Cu metals on silicon substrates, followed by oxidation at high temperatures. Results of various studies, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) reveal that $SnO_2$ and CuO are mutually non-reactive. The CuO grains, which in turn reside in the inter-granular regions of $SnO_2$, inhibit grain growth of $SnO_2$ as well as forming a network of p-n junctions. The film showed more than a 90% relative resistance change when exposed to $H_2S$ gas at 1 ppm in air at an operating temperature of $350^{\circ}C$ and had a short response time of 8 sec.
In the recent years, thin film solar cells (TFSCs) have emerged as a viable replacement for crystalline silicon solar cells and offer a variety of choices, particularly in terms of synthesis processes and substrates (rigid or flexible, metal or insulator). Among the thin-film absorber materials, SnS has great potential for the manufacturing of low-cost TFSCs due to its suitable optical and electrical properties, non-toxic nature, and earth abundancy. However, the efficiency of SnS-based solar cells is found to be in the range of 1 ~ 4 % and remains far below those of CdTe-, CIGS-, and CZTSSe-based TFSCs. Aside from the improvement in the physical properties of absorber layer, enormous efforts have been focused on the development of suitable buffer layer for SnS-based solar cells. Herein, we investigate the device performance of SnS-based TFSCs by introducing double buffer layers, in which CdS is applied as first buffer layer and ZnMgO films is employed as second buffer layer. The effect of the composition ratio (Mg/(Mg+Zn)) of RF sputtered ZnMgO films on the device performance is studied. The structural and optical properties of ZnMgO films with various Mg/(Mg+Zn) ratios are also analyzed systemically. The fabricated SnS-based TFSCs with device structure of SLG/Mo/SnS/CdS/ZnMgO/AZO/Al exhibit a highest cell efficiency of 1.84 % along with open-circuit voltage of 0.302 V, short-circuit current density of 13.55 mA cm-2, and fill factor of 0.45 with an optimum Mg/(Mg + Zn) ratio of 0.02.
