  • In this experiments, smoke filling behaviors in a large space were investigated. Also, it found that the smoke filling time can be predicted with a simplified zone model. Thermocouples were used to measure the temperature of the hot gases layer and also later to determine the smoke layer depth. Height markers were also hung from the roof so that observers could visibly assess the smoke layer depth.

  • In this study, smoke filling behaviors in a large space were investigated. For experimental study, thermocouples were used to measure the temperature of the hot gases layer and also to determine the smoke layer depth. Height markers were also hung from the roof so that observers could visibly assess the smoke layer depth. Ethanol was used as fuel. The smoke filling times were predicted with zone model and field model and numerical results were compared with experimental data. Good results were obtained.

  • Atrium buildings are commonly found in Hong Kong since 1980. Those spaces are usually crowded with people and so fire protection systems have to be installed for providing a safe environment. Smoke control system was identified to be important but no clear design guidelines are available because the smoke filling process was not well-understood. In this paper., Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) or fire field model is applied to study the smoke filling pattern in atrium. Two common cases on smoke spreading out from a shop adjacent to the atrium; and with a fire located at the atrium floor itself were considered. Simulations with a modified form of the CFD package TEAM were performed. Application of the predicted results Is illustrated.

유동에 의한 연층 확산에 관한 실험적 연구 (An experimental study of convective smoke filling)

  • An experimental investigation of smoke spread in a corridor is made using thermocouples and visualization technique with a laser beam sheet. A speed of smoke front under a ceiling is measured by thermocouple trees. Visualization of the ceiling jet formation and of smoke filling process is carried out to observe lowering of the smoke layer. From the results, a large-scale convective motion the corridor plays dominant roles for smoke spread from visualized photos together with temperature records. A circulating motion of fluid transports some smokes to some regions where its momentum is effective. It is therefore showed that the conventional concept of lowering smoke with two-layer zone model has some restrictions for the corridor because the lowering of smoke layer has been thought to be mass transport due to relatively small scale motion such as decrease of buoyancy, mass diffusion and momentum exchange.

A Numerical Study on the Smoke Behavior by Solar Radiation through Ceiling Glass in Atrium Fires

  • This paper describes the smoke filling process of a fire field model based on a self-deve-loped SMEP (Smoke Movement Estimating Program) code to the simulation of fire induced flows in the two types of atrium space containing a ceiling heat flux. The SMEP using PISO algorithm solves conservation equations for mass, momentum, energy and species, together with those for the modified k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model with buoyancy production term. Also it solves the radiation equation using the discrete ordinates method. Compressibility is assumed and the perfect gas law is used. Comparison of the calculated upper-layer average tempera-ture and smoke layer clear height with the zone models has shown reasonable agreement. The zone models used are the CFAST and the NBTC one-room. For atrium fires with ceiling glass the ceiling heat flux by solar heat causes a high smoke temperature near the ceiling. However, it has no effect on the smoke movement such as the smoke layer clear heights that are important in fire safety. In conclusion, the smoke layer clear heights that are important in evacuation activity except the early of a fire were not as sensitive as the smoke layer tem-perature to the nature of ceiling heat flux condition. Thus, a fire sensor in atrium with ceiling glass has to consider these phenomena.

아트리움에서 화재 발생시 복사가 고려된 연기거동에 대한 수치해석 연구 (A Numerical Study of Smoke Movement with Radiation in Atrium Fires)

  • 본 연구는 3차원 아트리움 공간(일본의 SIVANS 아트리움)내에서 화재 발생시 복사가 고려된 연기의 거동을 알아보기 위해 자체개발한 SMEP(Smoke Movement Estimating Program) Held 모델을 사용하여 수치해석하였다. PISO 알고리즘과 부력항을 포함한 수정 k-$\\varepsilon$ 난류모델을 사용한 SMEP은 연속, 운동, 에너지, 농도 그리고 복사 열 전달 방정식을 풀었으며, 복사 열 전달 방정식의 해석을 위하여 S-N 구분종좌표법을 채택하여 사용하였다. 수치해석 결과 연기의 온도분포는 복사와 대류를 힘께 고려했을 경우가 대류만을 고려했을 경우 보다 실험결과와 근사한 경향을 나타내었다. 이것은 연기속에 포함되어 있는 연소생성을 중 $H_2$O와 $CO_2$ 가스의 복사 영향 때문이며, 따라서 좀더 실제적인 화재해석에 있어서 연기의 복사 영향을 고려하는 것이 필요하다. 또한 연층의 하강 복도는 약 0.l m/s이었으며 피난수준인 바닥 1.5m까지 연층이 도달하는 데에는 56 kW의 Ultra Fast Fire의 경우 약 450초의 시간이 걸렸다.

과열증기처리에 의한 Burley종 각초의 물리성 및 연기성분 변화에 관한 연구 (Effect of Super Heated Steam Treatment on Physical Property and Smoke Component of Burley Cut Tobacco)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of super heated steam on the physical and chemical changes of burley cut tobacco. Total sugar, total alkaloid, ether extracts, crude ash, total nitrogen and pH for leaf chemical constituents were analyzed. Filling power and fineness index for physical properties, and carbonyl compounds, phenol compounds, amonia, pH, hydrogen cyanide nicotine, carbon monoxide, total volatile base and tar for smoke components were also analyzed. The cut tobacco treated with super heated steam showed significant decrease in total sugar and total alkaloid. The filling power of the sample treated with the super heated steam system was increased abruptly when heated at over 250℃. The fineness index showed similar tendency to that of common toast method. Super heated steam treatment slightly decreased carbonyl compounds, phenol compounds, hydrogen cyanide, nicotine, carbon monoxide and tar in the tobacco. Especially the decrease of ammonia was the most remarkable. The pH of smoke was a little different compared with that in the common toast. The sensory test results showed that, compared to the common conveyer moving system, the tobacco treated with super heated steam system brought out more roasted flavor, lowered impact, irritation, and sting, further improved aftertaste, and lowered bitterness. The super heated steam treatment method used in the studies is expected to give better filling power, mild taste and toasted odor of tobacco than that of the common method for toast treatment. 대규모 실내경기장의 성능위주 방재계획에 관한 연구 (A Study on Perfomance Based Evacuation Plan for a Large Indoor-Arena)

  • In this study, it was analyzed by a numerical analysis that plan/design considerations for ensuring the spectator safety of large arena audiences in a fire emergency evacuation plan. The latest issue, the 'performance-based design', fire and evacuation plan is important. But nowadays 'Specification-based design' is in common. In evacuation simulation, congestion of exit and aisle is ignored because only evacuation time of large-space is mainly analyzed. In smoke flow,'smoke filling effect' tends to be overrated. From now on, when design a field house, it is needed not 'smoke filling effect' and 'large-space evacuation' analysis, but analyzing 'whole building evacuation time' for ensuring fire evacuation safety of spectator.

담배 연기중(煙氣中)의 유해성분(有害成分) 감소(減少)에 관한 연구(硏究) (A study on reduction of harmful compound in cigarette smoke(I))

  • The effects of liquid sugar and sucrose on several characteristic of tobacco leaves, there combustibility and harmful compound in smoke were examined. results obtained were as follows. 1) Nicotine and total nitrogen content of tobacco leaves were reduced by sugars added to tobacco. 2) Nicotine and tar transfered to smoke were reduced by 4% sugars added to burley tobacco but not reduced by sugars added to hicks. 3) pH of smoke was reduced by sugars added but pH of tobacco shreds not reduced by sugars added. 4) The filling capacity and combustibility (S. B. R.) of tobacco shreds were increased by sugars treated. 5) Nitrogen oxides transfered to smoke was reduce by sugars treated but phenols transfered was not reduce by sugar treated. 6) The capacities of moisture absorption and retention was increased by sugars treated.

습식 스크러버의 분무유량, 형상비 및 충진율 변화가 스모크 저감에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Spray Flow Rate, Aspect Ratio, and Filling Rate of Wet Scrubber on Smoke Reduction)

  • 산업혁명과 함께 급격히 증가한 화석연료의 사용은 기존에 없었던 다양한 대기오염의 원인이 되었다. 특히 NOx와 SOx의 경우 산성비, 광화학 스모그의 원인이 되어 지속적인 규제와 그에 따르는 저감 노력이 이루어지고 있는데, 가장 대표적인 방법이 습식 스크러버 시스템이다. 본 연구에서는 3298cc 상용 디젤기관에 습식 스크러버 시스템을 적용하여 스크러버 형상비, 내부 충진율, 세정수 분무유량, 엔진 부하 조건을 달리하며 스크러버 전후의 스모크 저감률을 측정하였고, 이를 이용하여 스크러버의 최적 형상 및 충진율을 확인하였다. 실험결과 충진재 투입에 의한 큰 스모크 저감률 향상을 확인하였고, 형상비 및 세정수 분무유량 또한 스모크 저감률 향상에 영향을 미치는 인자임을 확인하였다.
