  • Although smartwatches are different from smartphones in shape and carried method, they are also highly relevant to smartphones and have similar characteristics. This paper studied the impact of using smartphones on the intention to use smartwatches from the perspective of brand extension. The hypotheses were that the major factors of the attitude formed in the process of using smartphones affect the intention of using them and affect the trust of smartwatches. As a result of testing the hypotheses, trust in smartphonees affected trust in smartwatches. And the intention to use smartphones and the trust of smartwatches affected the intention to use smartwatches. However, the satisfaction, familiarity, and favorability of smartphones did not affect the trust of smartwatches. Smartwatches were associated with smartphones but they had independent characters. Based on the results of the study, the trust of smartwatches is very important, so the corporate managers need to find ways to improve their trust. And they should find strategies to improve the value of the product by finding out the factors that can increase the intention of using smartwatches.

However, previous research has somewhat overlooked the importance of integrating ergonomic design elements into a broad spectrum of design factors. This study aims to examine the impact of physical attributes inherent in smart wristbands and smartwatches on the perceived functional value, specifically, perceived usefulness, ease of use, and fit. A survey was conducted among 289 US adults who had experience using smart wristbands or smartwatches. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, t-test, MANOVA, and regression analysis in SPSS version 29. The results showed that the shape of the front display significantly influenced perceived ease of use, and the product's weight had a substantial impact on both perceived ease of use and fit. Furthermore, distinct technical features on the front display had varied effects on perceived usefulness, ease of use, and fit. Notably, the presence of activity tracking, alarm, and calendar functionalities led to distinct differences in ease of use and fit. Features such as distance tracking, phone call, social media notifications, text messaging, and time display functions showed significant influences on the perception of fit. • Smartwatch, one of the popular forms of wearable gadget and a converging point of information technology innovation and fashion, is gaining much acceptance in countries belonging to the Asia-Pacific region. However, little is known about factors affecting consumers' intention to use smartwatches in Bangladesh. Therefore, this study explores factors driving Bangladeshi consumers' intention to use smartwatches and expands the general understanding of the emerging Asia-Pacific region's market. The study extends the conventional Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by incorporating perceived enjoyment, aesthetic appeal, healthology, and two fashion-related factors, such as fashion innovativeness and fashion involvement. Data representing 300 respondents were analyzed using the structural equation model (SEM). The results reveal that, among other predictors, attitude toward using has the strongest direct effect on behavioral intention to use smartwatches. Moreover, attitude toward using smartwatches is significantly influenced by perceived enjoyment, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, fashion innovativeness, and fashion involvement. The study further discusses some interesting theoretical contributions that would be important insights for future studies. The empirical findings of this study would benefit the manufacturers and marketers who are trying to enter or penetrate the market in the Asia-pacific region.

  • This study examined the factors influencing the intention to use smartwatches using the integrated model of technology acceptance model (TAM) and innovation diffusion theory (IDT). An online survey was conducted and the data were analyzed using the structural equation modeling (SEM). The results showed that the research model had an acceptable fit, and all paths, except for the one from the perceived ease of use to the intention to use, were supported. Regarding paths from IDT to TAM, it was observed that higher the compatibility, the users perceived greater usefulness. Additionally, both observability and trialability influenced the perceived ease of use. However, perceived ease of use affected the intention only through the mediated effect of perceived usefulness. The implication of the study lies on the major focus on the effects of users' perceptions regarding innovative characteristics of smartwatches on the intention to adopt and attempted to increase the explanatory power of the TAM and IDT by combining both.

  • This paper proposes a wearable user interface intended for kids and parents using WearOS smartwatches. We first review what constitutes a kids smartwatch and then design UI components for watchfaces to be used by kids and parents. Different UI components ranging from activity, education, voice search, app usage, video, location, health, and quick dial are described. These components are either implemented as complications or on watchfaces and may require on-device standalone function, cross-device communication, and external database. We introduce a theme-based amusing UI for kids whereas simple and easily accessible components are recommended to parents' watchface. To illustrate use cases, we present 3 scenarios for enhancing communication between parents and child. To show feasibility and potential of our approach, we implement our proof-of-concept using commercial smartwatches, smartphones, and external cloud database. Furthermore, performance of checking app usages on different devices are presented, followed by discussion on limitations and future work.

  • Despite consumers' increasing awareness and interests in innovative wearable devices, the sales growth has been stagnant. To analyze this phenomenon, we investigate consumer preferences for various innovative features embedded in wearable devices. Conducting conjoint analysis on smartwatches, we empirically show that the curse of innovation can occur when the consumer's expected utility from the smartwatch falls short of his/her psychological cost associated with behavior change from smartwatch usage. Therefore, our findings provide managerial implications on the R&D strategy for new technologies and more importantly on the marketing strategy easing consumers' resistance to highly innovative products.
