The Difference of Body Mass Index According to Smart Phone Proficiency in Koreans over the Age of 60 (장노년층 스마트폰 활용능력에 따른 체질량지수 차이)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the difference of body mass index (BMI) to smart phone proficiency in men and women over the age of 60. Methods: Patients were divided into three groups with high (n=33), average (n=34), and low (n=33) smart phone proficiency. Fitness characteristics related to smart phone usage were evaluated by measuring cardiorespiratory endurance, grip strength, eye-hand coordination. As well, smart phone proficiency was evaluated by a self-reported questionnaire and a smart phone usability task that was composed of two categories: usage of the smartphone device itself and usage of phone applications. The differences in BMI of the subjects was analyzed by analysis of covariance adjusting for independent variables including age, smartphone usage period, eye-hand coordination, education and income. Results: There was a significant difference in BMI among the three groups after adjustment of age, eye-hand coordination, smartphone usage period, education and income. The results showed that the self-reported questionnaire showed a significant difference in BMI between high proficiency and low proficiency groups (high $24.88{\pm}2.46$, low $23.37{\pm}2.56$; p=0.037). Smart phone usability test results also showed a significant difference in BMI among the three groups (high $25.18{\pm}2.58$, low $23.15{\pm}2.6$; p=0.000 and high $25.18{\pm}2.58$, middle $23.57.7{\pm}1.69$; p=0.010). Conclusion: Our results suggest that high smart phone proficiency shows increased BMI in the elderly. This study suggests that people over the age of 60 who have high smartphone proficiency should be cautious of an increased BMI score.

A Study on the Effect of Smart Factory Introduction on Workplace Innovation (스마트공장 도입이 일터혁신에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, as the introduction of smart factories spreads, interest and research on the positive and negative effects of smart factory introduction are increasing. This study quantitatively analyzed the changes in the workplace innovation index following the introduction of smart factory for 750 companies in the 4 categories of the workplace innovation index. Overall, the workplace innovation index of companies that introduced smart factory was higher than those that did not, and there was a statistically significant difference, especially in the work organization. In addition, as a result of analyzing the effects of smart factory introduction and workplace innovation consulting together, in the case of labor-management relations and work organization, the introduction of a smart factory and consulting were found to match the improvement of the workplace innovation index.

Smart Tourism Design: A Semiotic Affordances Approach

  • This paper presents a conceptual approach to Smart Tourism Design based on semiotic affordances theory. This conceptual approach repositions smart tourism from a techno-centric perspective that frames a seamless connection between the device and its software, to a more human-centric perspective that favors the user's needs, desires as perceived through the senses. An updated Smart Tourism Design emphasizes the aesthetic dimension of smart tourism that presents the objects of the travel experience as destination specific rather than universal, through representations as digital artifacts. This theory is based on an empirical and objective understanding of representations and how they can be identified as useful in the digital augmentation of travel experiences. Using Peirce's sign systems and Gibson's theory of affordances, smart tourism can transcend a prefabricated device-oriented experience to a closer dynamic and direct interaction between the user and the travel destination. Researchers and developers can use semiotics as a structural approach to recognizing objects as sign-types, and they can use affordances to better identify the immediacy of digital artifacts and purpose-driven by users' spontaneous and immediate motives.

The Effects of Smart Media Based STEAM Program of 'Chicken Life Cycle' on Academic Achievement, Scientific Process Skills and Affective Domain of Elementary School Students (스마트미디어 기반의 '닭의 한살이' 융합인재교육(STEAM) 수업이 초등학생의 학업성취도, 과학 탐구 능력 및 정의적 영역에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper examines the effects on academic achievement, scientific process skills and affective domain for elementary students learning the 'Chicken life cycle' through traditional science class versus a smart media based STEAM approach. Students designed and built a hatching jar and created a smart media content for chickens using time-lapse technology. This STEAM program was developed to improve their scientific concepts of animals over nine periods of classes using integrated education methods. The experimental study took place in the third grade of public schools in a province, with the STEAM approach applied in 2 classes (44 students) and the traditional discipline approach implemented in 2 classes (46 students). The STEAM education significantly influenced the improvement of academic achievements, basic scientific process skills and affective domain. The results suggest that this STEAM approach for teaching scientific concepts of animal life cycles has the performance in terms of knowledge, skills and affect gain achievements in elementary school students' learning when compared to a traditional approach. Moreover, the smart media based STEAM program is helpful to lead students to engage in integrated problem-solving designs and learning science and technology.

A Research Review on Usage of Smart Learning for Elementary Students with Learning Disabilities (초등 학습장애학생을 위한 스마트러닝 활용 연구 고찰)

  • The purpose of this paper is to review recent articles on applying smart learning for elementary students with learning disabilities. The search procedures through the Web-database system were implemented to find the proper research. Finally, a total of 10 articles met the criteria and were included in this review. Each study was analyzed according to the categories of the population, setting, research design, and intervention. The results indicated that research design implemented as case study and single subject design. Results founded strategies applying smart learning leaned too much towards using the skill-based application as learning contents. Based on analysis results, considerations for smart learning for elementary students with learning disabilities were suggested.

A Game Theory Based Interaction Strategy between Residential Users and an Electric Company

  • With the development of smart grid technology, it has become a hotspot to increase benefits of both residential users and electric power companies through demand response technology and interactive technology. In this paper, the game theory is introduced to the interaction between residential users and an electric company, making a mutually beneficial situation for the two. This paper solves the problem of electricity pricing and load shifting in the interactive behavior by building the game-theoretic process, proposing the interaction strategy and doing the optimization. In the simulation results, the residential users decrease their cost by 11% mainly through shifting the thermal loads and the electric company improves its benefits by 5.6% though electricity pricing. Simulation analysis verifies the validity of the proposed method and shows great revenue for the economy of both sides.

Localization of SMART Education: Focused on Jeollanamdo (지역화 기반 스마트교육 정책 방안 모색: 전라남도를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to localize the national policies of SMART education for regional educational development in Jeollanamdo province. To achieve the goal, this study analyzed the current status of ICT use in education in the province through a survey, interviews, and the existing relevant policies in national and international levels. The suggested policies were validated by experts from the field of education. As a result, 20 tasks in educational policies of 4 domains were suggested for the Jeollanamdo SMART education. Among them, the development of SMART educational models, building a professional development of teachers for successful implementation, and the development of online performance support system were prioritized for successful educational innovation for Jeollanamdo.

The Development and Effectiveness of the Smart System for Supporting Instructional Materials (스마트 교수-학습 자료 지원 시스템의 개발 및 효과 분석 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to design and implement the smart system for supporting instructional materials employing characteristics of smart education and flipped learning and to examine the effects of the system on students' achievement and satisfaction in elementary education. The system was developed on the basis of the curriculum with the design strategies of the smart system. The results of the analyses showed that the achievement of the students was increased over the series of the tests. It was also found that the system positively influenced students' self-directed learning time and their satisfaction in social studies education. The implications of the results of the study and suggestions for the future study were discussed.

  • In this paper, we propose the access control system based bluetooth using the MAC address of the smart device. Access control system that propose compares the smart device MAC address entry and exit and MAC address that is registered with the server. Depending on whether the match was compared, access control is performed. Result of the experiment, control of door is possible only by bluetooth pairing of the bluetooth module and smart device. Therefore, it does not require access to another tool.In addition, Action for access approval is omitted. Therefore, the access authorization procedure is simplified compared to existing access control systems, it is possible to improve the convenience.
