An Exploratory Analysis of Contributors to Smart TV Usage (스마트TV 이용에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구)

  • Smart TV is rapidly growing with the provision of OTT services, and has become an alternative to pay-TV services. Yet smart TV in Korea has been diffused slowly, and thus few research has paid attention to smart TV. With the global growth trend of smart TV, research on smartTV, focusing on users' characteristic and their behaviors, is critical to explain smart TV's usage. To employ the Mediapanel dataset, this study explores the impact of smart TV users' demographic factors and their pay-tv usage on smart TV usage. The results suggested that age, the type of household, household income, and market size are associated with smart TV usage. Pay-TV usage, specifically IPTV subscription and VOD expenses, have impacts on smart TV usage. Lastly the interaction effect between IPTV subscription and movie VOD expenses, has negatively associated with smart TV usage. This study may bring to re-attention to smart TV and to give insights into the industry field.

Smart TV market, TV replacement cycle is long, watching for changes in the way copyright issues such as adaptation period and, unlike the case of a smart phone TV market in the short term are expected to occupy will not find, if IPTV, satellite, cable and real-time TV platform for broadcasters to adopt a smart, smart TV market could spread more quickly than expected. Long term, Google, Apple, TV gajeonsa and broadcasters to compete with various companies through the process of expanding the TV market is smart, the media are expected to dominate the market. Smart TV with the latest technology-related research and to investigate the Smart TV, Smart TV is designed based widgets. Widgets on the desktop, mobile, IPTV, etc. can be implemented in various environments and various features and types of users already are using the widget. In particular the advantages of the widget can be implemented to meet the needs of the users, because users to more efficiently and meet their desired widget. In this paper, propose Smart-TV-based Baby management widget.

  • Smart TV is approaching as a new media service to integrate the broadcasting and the internet according to the technology evaluation of convergence to broadcasting, telecommunication, and computing. Therefore, This paper proposes the next generation smart TV(Smart TV 2.0) technology based on CPNT which supports those services such as the broadcasting, telecommunication, a convergence of broadcasting & communication, and computer service through multi-screen. Also, this paper describes the concept and details of the related technologies.

  • In this paper, we consider the current status of smart TV and propose a business model established on the smart TV ecosystem. There are two views on the outlook of the smart TV market, one of which takes optimistic prospect and the other one is pessimistic. However, mostly it is believed that the innovation will continue in smart TV technology and the market will expand. In this paper, we proposes a two-way, active and consumer oriented business model for smart TV using subtitle information. Finally, we expect to contributing to reduce the gap of information between countries to spread the Han-Wave.

  • TV has evolved into thin and wide shaped due to the huge sales of LCD. And it makes many houses own large TV easily. After that TV technology focuses on large and high-definition screen. Recently majority of TV market is that of smart TV which is equipped with internet and GPOS(General Purpose Operating System) so people can install several applications on TV. Yet smart TV's remote controllers are not suitable for several applications. Especially there is no way to provide people with sufficient interactivity with game contents of TV. In this paper, we proposed new methodology for interworking between smart TV and smart device to enhance interactivity of smart TV platform game.

  • To provide convenient life, we consider the situation of using the smart phone to control smart TV and PC in home and office. In this paper, we design the interworking platform between smart TV, smart phone and PC, and implement their applications. Our smart phone application controls the smart TV and PC, where our smart TV application communicates with the smart phone and PC can be booted by the login and password information given form our smart phone application. We hope that our platform design and application implementation will be contributed to be a foundation of interworking between various smart devices in the near-future real smart life.

  • Nowadays, the needs for linking smart devices are growing fast because of wide spread of smart devices such as smart TV, smart phones, smart pad and so on. This paper presents a game framework for linking smart TV and smart phones and proves its applicability by developing an example contents. The problem of connection between smart devices is basically a problem of connection between heterogeneous devices. The problem is that data transmission and reception between heterogeneous devices must be considered. Therefore, the core data is implemented by adopting the concept of cloud computing and storing it in a server, and in a smart TV, playing the game by using this data. The proposed framework could be applied to a lot of applications such as computer games.

  • Smart TV manufacturers have constructed automatic Smart TV execution environment for reducing cost of Smart TV testing. However, the conventional test methods still require high cost because of manual test script written by testers. Test scripts manully written have less reusability, and then less reusable scripts cannot be used for new TV models. In this paper, we propose constructing reusable test models for Smart TV and present a model-based Smart TV test script generation method using the modes. And we apply the method to NetCast Smart TV to confirm the effectiveness of enhancing reusability.

  • Because smart televisions (TVs) have various and innovative functions that are different from traditional TVs, consumers are front with a complex decision-making problem when they want to buy a best TV among alternatives made by many TV makers. TV manufactures have developed and announced different types of smart TV models and they need a comparative study for evaluating their characteristics. In this paper, we suggest the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) method for deciding the best smart TVs regarding many selection criteria. The method provides a decision support for consumers who like to purchase a smart TV. We describe criteria affecting the smart TV selection through a literature review and suggest a user testing method in order to derive accurate judgments from consumers. Using the Expert Choice software package, we show a an numerical example how the priority of smart TVs are computed.

  • Latest Smart TV is rapidly increasing in prevalence. Smart-TV can provide reserve-service, training-service, and game service to user. Smart-TV need standard API for user requested app to run it. In this case, the cracker can run Malicious apps or user-request contents to modify it by analysis of the vulnerability of the smart-TV platform. Therefore, we modify the extension API on Smart-TV to prevent hacking. Our proposed research method can support that device is illegal in Smart-TV device can prevent unauthorized access.
