  • This study analyzes the characteristics by age and type for middle aged and elderly women foot shapes aged 40-69 years. ANOVA, factor, and cluster analyzed middle aged and elderly women's foot shapes. The results of the study are as follows. First, higher age groups tended to have smaller foot lengths, ball/instep circumferences, circumferences, and ball heights with larger heel height values and higher degrees of gathering of toe 1 and toe 5 toward the feet reference axis. Second, foot lengths were 220 mm-240 mm and the ball circumference's size symbol in high frequency sections were distributed from E to EEEE in the 40s and 60s groups and from D to EEEE in the 50s group. Third, eight factors were extracted through the factor analyses of middle aged and elderly women's foot measurement items. Fourth, a cluster analyses classified the subjects into four types. Type 1 is a normal foot type with medium foot length and small ball circumference and type 2 is a long and flat foot type with a type with large foot length and ball circumference values as well as small ball height values. Type 3 is a thick foot type with a medium foot length, large ball circumference, large ball height and type 4 is a toe deformation foot type with medium foot length, small ball circumference, and a high degree of toe gathering toward the center.

  • We study substrate support structures and materials to improve uptime and shorten preventive maintenance cycles for chemical vapor deposition equipment. In order to improve the rolling of the substrate support, the bushing device adopts a ball transfer method in which a large ball and a small ball are mixed. When the main transfer ball of the bushing part of the substrate support contacts the substrate support, the small ball also rotates simultaneously with the rotation of the main ball, minimizing the resistance that can be generated during the vertical movement of the substrate support. As a result of the improvement, the glass substrate breakage rate is reduced by more than 90 ~ 95 %, and the equipment preventive maintenance and board support replacement cycles are extended four times or more, from once a month to more than four months, and the equipment uptime is at least 15 % improved. This study proposes an optimization method for substrate support structure and material improvement of chemical vapor deposition equipment.

  • In this paper, we theoretically analyzed the NRRO(the non-repeatable run-out) of a ball bearing with geometric imperfection. The quasi-static and dynamic analysis of a ball bearing was performed to calculate the displacement of shaft center caused by the form errors while the shaft is rotating. From consideration of the generating mechanism of NRRO, it is found that the waviness of one ball generates vibrations with nf$\sub$b/${\pm}$f$\sub$c/(where n is odd) components. Also it is confirmed that the outer race waviness of the order n = jZ${\pm}$1 generates vibration with jZf$\sub$c/ components. The form errors of ball bearing elements were precisely measured and NRRO of a ball bearing was calculated using the measured data. It is concluded that the ball bearings must has large ball number and small ball diameter to obtain low NRRO.

  • As small size and complex metal machining components demand increases, cutting processes in microscale become necessary. Ball-end milling is a commonly used finishing process, which nowadays can be applied in the microscale size. Surface quality and dimensional accuracy are two basic parameters that affect small size components in their assembly and functionality. Thus, good quality can be achieved by optimizing the cutting conditions of the procedure. This study presents a 3D simulation model of ball-end milling in microscale developed in a commercial CAD software and its optical and computing results. These carried out results are resumed to surface topomorphy, surface roughness, chip geometry and cutting forces calculations that arising during the cutting process. A great number of simulations were performed in a milling machine centre, applying the discretized kinematics of the procedure and the final results were compared with measurements of Al7075-T651 experiments.

  • This study aims to determine the flow characteristics of a one-inch small ball valve and glove valve used in industrial plants. The flow was changed through an experimental equipment, and the internal flow characteristics of the valves were compared. Considering the pressure drop, the decrease in the slope of the ball valve based on the degree of the valve opening was relatively greater than that of the glove valve; further, the slope of the glove valve was gentle while the pressure drop was high. The flow velocity of the ball valve remains consistent after the valve was opened by 70%, whereas the flow velocity of the glove valve constantly increased. The valve loss factor of the ball valve was relatively low compared with that of the glove valve. When the valve was opened by 20%, which is the beginning stage of the valve opening, the valve loss factor of the ball valve was high and gradually became low. This is a structural problem of the ball valve, and the loss factor is significant because the flow path installed at the ball valve has a considerably small area. However, the overall loss factor of glove valve is high because it has a complicated structure of flow path.

  • Recently, Ball Grid Arrays(BGAs) are getting used more frequently for a package type. The connectors on a BGA consist of a large number of small solder balls in a grid shape on its bottom side. However, since balls of BGAs mounted on PCBs are not visible, inspection before mounting them is indispensable. High speed non-contact 3D measurement technologies are necessary far real-time measurement of ball height, the most important inspection item. In this paper, an accurate 3D data acquisition system for BGAs is proposed that can acquire 3D profile at high speed using a 3D smart camera and laser slit ray projection. Some clipping and morphological filtering operations are employed to remove spiky error data, which occur due to reflections from some ball area to camera direction.

  • This paper proposes a design method of ball-plate robot controller using single camera and two motors to balance the ball on plate and reduce steady state control error. To design the ball-plate system, it is necessary to observe state of the ball and maintain balance of the plate. The state of the ball is tracked by using the CAMShift algorithm and position error of the ball is compensated by the Kalman filter. Balance of the plate is controlled by driving two motors and we used DC motors which has smaller measurement error. Due to surface condition of the plate or tracking error of ball's position, there are small errors remained. These errors are accumulated and disturb maintaining balance of the ball. To handle the problem, we propose a controller supplemented with an integrator.

  • In this paper, by estimating small ball probabilities of $l^{\infty}$-valued Gaussian processes, we investigate Chung-type law of the iterated logarithm of $l^{\infty}$-valued Gaussian processes. As an application, the Chung-type law of the iterated logarithm of $l^{\infty}$-valued fractional Brownian motion is established.
