  • This paper proposes an efficient and effective BOM management scheme for small and medium manufacturing (SME) companies that produce automobile parts. Automobile part's manufacturers produce very various products due to various automobile characteristics such as types, colors, and options of cars. These products are classified into product groups with common parts and like this product groups with commonality are regarded as product family. This paper proposes a BOM data model for product family structures and implements the practical EXCEL-based BOM management system for real small and medium manufacturing (SU) companies that produces automobile parts.

  • The smart factory is an important system that can reduce defects, maximize productivity, and respond to customer needs, from the labor-intensive era of traditional small and medium-sized manufacturing companies through the automation era to CPS using ICT. However, small and medium-sized manufacturers often fall short of the basic stage due to economic and environmental constraints, and there are many companies that do not even recognize the concept of a smart factory. In this situation, to expand the smart factory of small and medium-sized enterprises, the project to support the establishment of a smart factory for the win-win between large and small enterprises. The win-win smart factory construction support project provides a customized differentiation program support project according to the size and level of the company for all domestic manufacturing SMEs regardless of whether or not they are dealing with Samsung. In this study, we analyze the construction status and introduction performance of companies participating in the win-win smart factory support project to find out whether they have been helpful in management and to find efficient ways to improve support policies, and to suggest the direction of continuous support projects to improve the manufacturing competitiveness of SMEs in the future.

The authors generate exploratory hypotheses, which are tested via statistical analysis of data obtained from a questionnaire survey. The hypotheses tested include, the relationships between "High Value Added" strategys and factors involved with manufacturing and marketing channels. High Value Added strategys relate to the manufacturers' competitive behaviors that create high and new value for their products. The results indicate that High Value Added strategys have positive relationships for domestic outsources, the number of outsources, use of directly operated shops and the orientation for sales in overseas markets.

  • To improve the standardized quality of gochujang produced by major companies, the quality characteristics of 29 gochujang samples produced by regional small- and medium-scale manufacturers were determined. The average moisture content, crude protein content, pH, acidity, and salinity of gochujang from regional manufacturers were found to be 34.32-45.53%, 5.07-5.68%, 4.61-4.92, 3.30-3.72%, and 9.93-16.14%, respectively. The contents of reducing sugar, amino type N, and capsaicinoids were found to be 16.81-29.81%, 191.72-660.55 mg%, and 32.49-79.58 mg/kg, respectively, and the ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-amylase activity were 2.52-4.15 and 26.36-36.47 U/g, respectively. These values varied significantly across regional manufacturers. In addition, overall, gochujang had a range of 23.93-55.64% moisture content, 4.01-7.30% crude protein content, 105.47-1092.00 mg% amino type N content, and 8.74-181.50 mg/kg capsaicinoid content. These results indicate that the quality characteristics of gochujang showed a wide distribution but met the Korean Industrial Standards. Therefore, these data can be used for quality control of gochujang.

It has been introduced by large companies at an early stage and due to changes in management environment, the scope of its concept has been expanding to the SMM(Small and Medium Manufactures). The objective of this study is to examine the impact of Co-creation on SMM's non-financial and financial performance. Design/methodology/approach Based on literature review, the research model was developed. To test this research model, we collected 188 questionnaires with SMM which utilized Co-creation and supplied parts to the companies. The t-test and ANOVA were employed for the analysis of data Findings The research result showed that the difference in business performance between the groups with much use of Co-creation and those with little use of Co-creation, there was significant difference in both non-financial and financial performance. In addition, non-financial and financial performance were different among four implementation behavior of Co-creation including Common value, Information share, Risk benefit, and Mutual benefit.

  • The purpose of this case study is to suggest the indicators of an informatization maturity level and critical success factors in small and medium automotive parts manufacturers. To achieve this goal, literature reviews and case studies on 7 automotive parts manufacturers that confirmed to implement information systems successfully, were conducted. Based on literature review, the six functional processes including development, production scheduling, purchase, production, order, and support process, were defined. Each process has 5 levels from 1(low level) to 5(high level) depending on the degree of informatization maturity. In addition, critical success factors were discovered with interviews of CEO or CIO. The results of this study can be applied to any companies which are implementing or intended to the information systems near future.
