  • An automatic target sensing and triggering system for small fire arms is proposed. The system consists of an optical collector, an infrared ray sensor responsive to human body temperature, an electric actuator and a trigger mechanism. TRIZ methodologies are used to develop solutions to several contradictory problems. Experimental results on the system performance is compared with predictions.

  • The 3-dimensional PPNG(Pure proportional navigation guidance) law was proposed about forty years ago, but the satisfactory analysis of its performance has not been presented since then. In this note, we prove under some reasonable assumptions that the missile guided according to this 3-dimensional PPNG law can always intercept a randomly maneuvering target if (1) the target acceleration varies with a certain bound, (2) the navigation constant is selected large and (3) the initial heading error is small. We introduce a Lyapunov-like method that proves to be a very powerful tool in obtaining our results.

  • In this paper, a new detection scheme, the detectable maneuver set (DMS) scheme, is proposed by incorporating the trade-off property between target maneuver magnitude and detection time delay. With this new detection scheme, small maneuvers can be effectively detected without enlarging window size. Simulation results show that the proposed DMS scheme gives better tracking performance.

  • The main objectives of this dissertation is to propose a forth generation index C for the case where the target value T is not equal to the midpoint of the specification limits (i.e. asymmetric tolerances), and show that this index is more sensitive compared to the standard PCI's in detacting small shifts of the process mean from the target value. In conclusion, in this dissertation , a new methods for estimating a measure of process capability for non-normally distributed variable data is proposed using the percentage nonconforming.

  • Protein Arginine Methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5), a significant member of the PRMT family, is a promising anticancer target. In this study, novel small compounds that act against the PRMT5 target are found by combining virtual screening with ChEMBL database medicines and Density Functional Theory. The ChEMBL database compounds were screened to retrieve the hit molecules, which further subjected for DFT analysis. Finally we have evaluated that ChEMBL- approved drugs such as Lifitegrast, Abiraterone acetate and Solifenacin may be potential inhibitors for PRMT5.

  • Background: The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) /RPS6KB1 activation has recently been implicated in tumour development, but its role in lung cancer remains unclear. The aim of this study was to explore the role of mTOR/RPS6KB1 signaling pathway in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: Immunohistochemistry was performed to assess the expression of phosphorylated mammalian target of rapamycin (p-mTOR) and its downstream ribosomal phosphorylated RPS6KB1 (p-RPS6KB1) in NSCLC patients. We also analyzed p-mTOR/p-RPS6KB1 protein expression in 45 fresh NSCLC tissues using Western blotting. Results: The expression level of p-mTOR and p-RPS6KB1 was significantly higher in NSCLC tumor specimens than that in adjacent noncancerous normal lung tissues (P<0.01). p-mTOR expression correlated with p-RPS6KB1. Furthermore, high expression level of p-mTOR or p-RPS6KB1 in NSCLC was associated with a shorter overall survival (both P<0.01). Multivariate analysis indicated high level of p-mTOR expression was an independent prognostic factor (HR=2.642, 95%CI 1.157-4.904, p=0.002). Conclusions: p-mTOR and p-RPS6KB1 could be useful prognostic markers for NSCLC.

  • Lung cancer is a serious health problem and leading cause of death worldwide due to its high incidence and mortality. More than 80% of lung cancers feature a non-small cell histology. Over few decades, systemic chemotherapy and surgery are the only treatment options in this type of tumor but due to their limited efficacy and overall poor survival of patients, there is an urge to develop newer therapeutic strategies which circumvent the problems. Enhanced knowledge of translational science and molecular biology have revealed that lung tumors carry diverse driver gene mutations and adopt different intracellular pathways leading to carcinogenesis. Hence, the development of targeted agents against molecular subgroups harboring critical mutations is an attractive approach for therapeutic treatment. Targeted therapies are clearly more preferred nowadays over systemic therapies because they target tumor specific molecules resulting with enhanced activity and reduced toxicity to normal tissues. Thus, this review encompasses comprehensive updates on targeted therapies for the driver mutations in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and the potential challenges of acquired drug resistance faced i n the field of targeted therapy along with the imminent newer treatment modalities against lung cancer.

  • Homology-specific transcriptional and post-transcriptional silencing, an intrinsic mechanism of gene regulation in most eukaryotes, can be induced by anti-sense, co-suppression, or hairpin-based double-stranded RNA. Hairpin-based RNA interference (RNAi) has been applied to analyze gene function and genetically modify crops. However, RNAi vector construction usually requires high-cost cloning steps and large amounts of time, or involves methods that are protected by intellectual property rights. We describe a more effective method for generating intron-spliced RNAi constructs. To produce intron-spliced hairpin RNA, an RNAi cassette was ligated with the first intron and splicing sequences of the Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis histone deacetylase 1 gene. This method requires a single ligation of the PCR-amplified target gene to SpeI-NcoI and SacI-BglII enzyme sites to create a gene-specific silencing construct. We named the resulting binary vector system pKHi and verified its functionality by constructing a vector to silence DIHYDROFLAVONOL 4-REDUCTASE (DFR), transforming it into tobacco plants, and confirming DFR gene-silencing via PCR, RT-qPCR, and analysis of the accumulation of small interfering RNAs. Reduction of anthocyanin biosynthesis was also confirmed by analyzing flower color of the transgenic tobacco plants. This study demonstrates that small interfering RNAs generated through the pKHi vector system can efficiently silence target genes and could be used in developing genetically modified crops.

  • It was carried out a review of operating limit analysis for small high-speed boat by author. In general, a review of ship's seakeeping performance is performed in the step of ship design, but this study was carried out in the state of completion of boat. Motion performance of Pitch, Vertical and Lateral acceleration and Slamming were satisfied in some encounter angle but deck wetness was not satisfied in all it does the analysis. As a result, sea state rather than the speed and encounter angle of vessel have a greater effect on the seakeeping performance of target vessel. It seems to be due to the size of the target ship.

  • A small millimeter-wave tracking radar is a pulse radar that searches, detects, and tracks a target in real time through a TWS (Track While Scan) method on a sea-going traps target with a large RCS running at low speed. This paper describes the development of a simulated signal generator to verify the performance of a small millimeter wave tracking radar in laboratory anechoic chamber environment. We describe a GUI program for testing and performance analysis in conjunction with hardware configuration and tracking radar, and verified the simulated signal generator implemented through performance test.
