국내 벤처기업의 업령(業齡)에 따른 성과 결정요인 (An Empirical Study on the Business Performance Determinants According to Years of Operation in Domestic New Ventures)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the determinants of new venture performance according to years of operation in the view of integrated research framework. We propose the integrated new ventures performance model which is composed of entrepreneur, organization/resources, industrial environment, strategy/foundation process and availability of supporting systems as corresponding variables to new ventures performance. The determinants of new venture performance according to years of operation are identified through the multi-variate statistical analysis such as moderating regression analysis with the data gathered from 110 executives of venture companies. For internal variables, entrepreneur's managerial ability and technical expertise and employee's ability affect venture's performance increasingly as years of operation increases but resource procurement ability affects decreasingly. Related to external variables, years of operation plays positive moderating role on market size growth and supporting system availability, but negative role on government venture policy for venture performances. Though this study has limitation of small sample, limited questionnaire and performance measure, it has managerial contribution of identifying determinants of new venture performance according to years of operation.

국내 벤처기업 수출시기와 수출성과 결정요인에 관한 연구 (The Determinants of the Export Timing and Export Performance of Venture Firms.)

  • This paper develops a model of the export timing and export performance of venture firms by drawing by resource based view and born-global firm theory. The model aims at explaining the role of internal resources of small new venture firms and environment factors in accelerating the firm's export timing and achieving export growth. Hypothesses were developed around the following factors: management characteristics in terms of CEO's foreign experience and export commitment; organizational characteristics in terms of technological competence and marketing competence, and inter-functional cooperation; and finally environmental factors in terms of domestic and market attractiveness and foreign market attractiveness influence both the export timing and export performance. Structural equation modeling analysis by using 214 small new ventures provides a partial supports for the hypotheses. The result showed that technological competence have an influence on early export timing and that CEO's foreign experience and export commitment, technological competence and foreign market attractiveness are related export performance significantly. It also showed the significant relationship between export timing and export performance.

국내 벤처의 경영성과 영향요인 비교 분석에 관한 실증연구 (An Empirical Study on Comparative Analysis of Determinants of Management Performance for Domestic Ventures)

  • 본 연구는 국내 벤처기업의 경영성과를 결정하는 요인들을 통합된 연구 틀 안에서 규명해 보고자 하는 목적으로 실시되었다. 이를 위하여 창업자/팀, 조직/자원, 전략/창업과정, 산업 환경, 지원시스템을 경영성과 영향요인으로 정의하였으며 영역별 측정변수를 독립변수로, 경영성과를 종속변수로 하는 벤처 경영성과 통합 모형을 구축하고, 우수벤처와 열등벤처의 경영성과 영향요인을 실증적으로 검증하였다. 분석 결과, 우수기업의 경우 창업자 자신의 산업전문능력과 시장규모의 확대가 경영성과 에 더 민감한 요인으로 작용하고 있으며, 열등기업의 경우 자원조달능력 및 경영 전략 역량 이 민감한 요인으로 나타났다. 또한 우수기업과 열등기업을 나누는 핵심요인은 창업자의 능력 및 정부정책의 일치성으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과는 표본수의 부족, 측정 척도의 미비 등 실증 연구의 한계를 가지고 있지만 통합된 연구 틀 안에서 우수 벤처기업의 핵심 성공 요인을 제시하는데 그 의미가 있다.

창업경험 특성이 벤처창업기업 성과에 미치는 영향: 업력의 조절효과 (Success and Failure of Entrepreneurial Experience and New Venture Performance: Moderating Effect of Firm Age)

  • 본 연구에서는 창업가의 창업경험 특성이 벤처창업기업의 성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 창업가의 이전 창업경험은 벤처창업기업의 중요한 인적자본으로서 후속 창업시 벤처창업기업의 운영과 성과에 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 여겨져 왔다. 창업가의 이전 창업경험이 벤처창업기업의 성과에 미치는 영향에 대한 기존 실증적 연구결과들은 일관된 결과들을 보여주지 못하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 국내 벤처창업기업들을 대상으로 창업가의 창업경험 특성을 성공창업경험과 실패창업경험으로 구분하고 벤처창업기업의 성과에 미치는 영향과 업력의 조절효과에 대해 실증적으로 살펴보았다. 창업경험특성에 따라 성과에 미치는 영향을 다르게 나타나고 있다. 성공창업경험은 고용에는 정의 유의한 영향을 미치나 재무적 성과에는 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 실패창업경험은 고용과 재무적 성과 모두에서 부의 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 업력에 따른 조절효과는 실패창업경험에서는 정의 조절효과가 나타나고 있으나 성공창업경험에서는 유의한 조절효과가 나타나지 않았다. 창업경험의 특성(성공 또는 실패)에 따라 이후 벤처창업기업의 성과에 상이한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 벤처창업기업의 업력이 늘어나면서 이전 창업경험의 효과는 더욱 강화되는 것으로 나타나고 있어 창업경험과 성과간의 단기적인 영향관계와 장기적인 영향관계가 다르게 나타나고 있음을 보여준다. 실무적 시사점으로는 창업가의 창업경험의 효과가 경험특성에 따라 다르게 나타날 수 있음을 이해할 필요가 있으며 창업경험이 있는 창업가들에 대한 정책적 지원에 있어서도 창업경험의 특성과 효과를 높일 수 있는 지원방안에 대한 고려가 필요함을 시사하고 있다.

Components and Interactions of Venture Ecosystems: A Focus on Korean Case Studies

  • This study analyzes the establishment of venture companies and the interaction of venture ecosystem components (the core factors of venture ecosystems) with a focus on venture companies, venture capital, and the return market. Government support policies are understood as a catalyst for the venture ecosystem and this study will analyze the implications of government involvement by identifying the role of government policies in the venture ecosystem. According to the results of the empirical analysis with data on confirmed venture businesses by the Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA), policies that provide direct support to venture companies did not have a significant influence on the establishment of new ventures. However, new investments by venture capital show a statistically significant positive effect and signify that the new investment is an important factor in vitalizing the establishment of new venture businesses and that the economic conditions of the return market have a positive effect. The establishment of venture businesses responds to the changes in real and vertical markets with greater resilience compared to government policies. Given the unique nature of the Korean venture ecosystem that responds to the market with greater resilience than government policies, there must be increased efforts to recover the confidence of the capital markets for venture capital in order to promote improved efficiency.

Back to Faraway Upriver Territories: Forest Products, Decentralization, and Aoheng Dayak's Return Migrations, Indonesian Borneo, 1960-2020

  • In the 1960s, the Aoheng, a small tribal group with immense territories on the upper Mahakam River, began out-migrating to downstream settlements in search of better living conditions. A trickle of young men, then their families, and more sizable groups, they settled in various towns along the river. In Samarinda, the provincial capital, they came to form a community of several hundred. When the powerful forest product boom (c. 1990) for the P. R. China market opened up the hinterland to extractive ventures, many Aoheng returned home to protect their rich natural resources from forceful outsiders. After 1998, decentralization policies established scores of new provinces, regencies, and districts across the country. Soon, West-Kutai was created as the interior "Dayak" regency, upstream and autonomous from the Moslem-Malay coastal regions. Coal mining and oilpalm plantations massively intensified, while Sendawar, its capital, offered hundreds of civil-service jobs and business opportunities. In 2012, West-Kutai was split to create yet another regency, Upper-Mahakam, prompting robust Aoheng reflux/return moves toward its upstream capital, Ujoh-Bilang. Already open to wild-frontier-style inroads by outsiders, it will soon be flooded by industrial ventures. The Aoheng, bound to become a minority in their own district, are struggling to defer their inevitable final dissolution.

The Review on the Theory of Internationalization of Multinational Firms and SMEs

  • Purpose - to examine the theories related to the internationalization of multinational corporations as well as theories related to internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises. Research design, data, and methodology - traditional theories, e.g. eclectic paradigm and behavioral theory and product life cycle etc. were examined and recent advances theories - network theory, entrepreneurship - were also examined to outline the theory of internationalization of firm. Results - the main schools of international researches are divided into two; one is the economics school, the other is the behavioral school. The economics school has considered internationalization as a pattern of investment in foreign markets explained by rational economic analysis of internalization, ownership, and location advantages. Apart from the economics approach, a theory relevant to smaller firms highlights slow and incremental overseas market commitment. Recent research on the network perspective is fast emerging and it can be applied and well explained on the internationalization of smaller firms, focusing on firm behavior in the context of a network of interorganizational and inter-personal relationships Conclusions - Small medium-sized enterprises have been recently rising, however, there has still been little consolidation of literature in internationalization and most of the relevant theories have been still focusing on explaining the globalization of multinational corporations. Little studied on the internationalization in the context of smaller firms which are distinctly differentiated from larger firms including international new ventures, which the motivation to study strongly calls for more information and studied on small medium-sized enterprises.

IT를 활용한 기업-지역사회 혁신모델 사례연구 : Samasource의 Microwork를 중심으로 (A Case Study on Social Innovation Model of Samasourse Using IT Microworks)

  • As social problems including aging, depopulation, healthcare, poverty, a lot of government, organizations is trying to solve the problems. Recently, social innovation is emerging as strategy for solving social problems around the world. Social innovation means more effective, sustainable and new solutions that increase total values of society. This study attempts to introduce microworks of the Samasource as a case of the business-community innovation model using IT. Samasource is one of three social ventures under the nonprofit organization Sama Group established in 2008. Its mission is to alleviate worldwide poverty by connecting unemployed people in impoverished countries to digital work. Based on the internet model "microwork", they split huge digital projects into small scales, and deliver them to BOP(Bottom Of Pyramid) groups through the internet. This case describes a business model, revenue model, and impact of Samasource's Microwork. Implications of the case were suggested in the conclusion. To this end, I would like to provide a meaningful implication to researchers and founders of the South Korea.

기술혁신역량과 매출성과에 기술개발소요기간이 미치는 조절효과 (The Moderating Effect of Technology Development Period on the Relationship between Technology Innovation Capabilities and Sales Performance)

  • As competition among companies has intensified and the life cycle of products has been shortened, strong innovation is needed to meet consumers' needs. In addition, it is necessary to shorten the life cycle of the product and reduce the time required for technology development for the competitive advantage of the product. In particular, venture companies where new technologies and ideas are important require more innovative capabilities than others companies. Therefore, this study analyzed the impact of technology innovation capabilities (product development process capability, human resource capability and financial capability) on sales by technology development for small and medium venture companies and analyzed moderating effect of technology development period on the relationship between technology innovation capabilities and sales by technology development. The data of 'Small and Medium Business Technology Statistics' collected by the government every year were used for analysis. Technology-intensive ventures were extracted from this data. In addition, the moderating effect was analyzed through hierarchical regression analysis. This study shows that product planning capability, test capability, and R&D expenditure have a positive impact on sales by technology development. In this study, the product development period showed a positive moderating effect on product development capability and sales performance. On the other hand, the product development period showed a negative moderating effect on R&D expenditure and sales by technology development.

농업벤처기업의 빅데이터 활용의도에 영향을 미치는 기술·조직·환경 관점의 핵심요인 연구: 기술분야의 조절효과를 중심으로 (A Study on the Key Factors Affecting Big Data Use Intention of Agriculture Ventures in Terms of Technology, Organization and Environment: Focusing on Moderating Effect of Technical Field)

  • 디지털화의 진전과 함께 축적된 빅데이터의 활용은 글로벌 농산업계에 파괴적 혁신을 가져오고 있다. 최근 정부는 농업 빅데이터 플랫폼 구축 및 지원조직 신설 등의 조치를 취하고 있으나 국내 농산업계는 재배생육 분야의 일부기업 외에는 빅데이터 활용이 미흡한 실정이다. 이러한 배경에서 본 연구는 빅데이터를 선도적으로 활용하여 혁신을 창출하는 주체가 되어야 할 농업벤처를 중심으로 기술, 조직, 환경의 맥락에서 빅데이터 활용의도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 규명하고 기술분야에 따른 조절효과를 확인하고자 하였다. 이에 농업기술실용화재단 A+센터의 지원을 받는 농업벤처 309개로부터 연구 데이터를 확보하여 SPSS 22.0을 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 기술적 요인 중에서는 상대적 이점과 호환성이 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치고, 조직적 요인 중에서는 경영층 지원이 정(+)의 영향을, 비용이 부(-)의 영향을 미치며, 환경적 요인 중에서는 정책적 지원이 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 기술분야의 조절효과 검증 결과, 재배생육 외 기업일수록 상대적 이점, 호환성, 경쟁자 압력 외의 모든 변수와 빅데이터 활용의도와의 관계를 완화하는 조절효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 통해 다음과 같은 시사점을 제시하였다. 첫째, 빅데이터 활용을 통해 농업벤처에 새로운 수익창출 및 운영효율성 제고 기회를 제공할 핵심사업을 선정하여 정책적으로 협업기회를 늘릴 필요가 있다. 둘째, 농산업 특성으로 인한 분석의 어려움을 극복할 수 있는 빅데이터 분석 솔루션 제공이 필요하다. 셋째, 농업벤처와 같은 소규모 조직에서는 최고경영층의 빅데이터 활용에 대한 높은 이해수준으로부터 출발한 조직문화 재편 의지가 선행되어야 한다. 넷째, 중소·벤처기업 수준에서 벤치마킹할 수 있는 성공사례를 발굴하고 홍보하는 것이 중요하다. 다섯째, 농업벤처 기술분야별로 핵심사업 추진과 지원사업의 우선순위를 나누어 추진하는 것이 보다 효과적일 것으로 판단된다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 한계점과 후속 연구과제를 제시하였다.
