The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in 2020, had a significant impact on the economy and business activities worldwide. Large companies, as well as small businesses were affected, many of them had to scale down or divert their businesses, and some even had to stop. This extraordinary situation requires business people to make innovations and adjustments to survive during a pandemic. Entering the digital era, business players are helped by the ease of internet access, which will make it easier for SME players to get data from their consumers. Business actors can use this data to innovate and create new creations to improve business performance during this pandemic. This research aims to identify how small and medium enterprises can take advantage of Big Data to improve marketing performance through innovation and value creation. The research methodology used the in this research is quantitative method. The respondents are SME producers of food and beverage, with a total of 150 respondents. The results in the study indicate that all the proposed hypotheses are accepted. The most significant influence is found on the relationship of Big Data to value creation. The lowest effect was obtained from the relationship between Big Data and marketing performance through the mediation variable and innovation capability.

Purpose This study aims to understand the inclinations of young job seekers towards "hidden champions" - small but competitive companies that are emerging as potential solutions to the growing disparity between youth-targeted job vacancies and job seekers. We utilize machine learning techniques to discern the appeal of these hidden champions. Design/methodology/approach We examined the characteristics of small and medium-sized enterprises using data sourced from the Ministry of Employment and Labor and Youth Worknet. By comparing the efficacy of five machine learning classification models (i.e., Logistic Regression, Random Forest Classifier, Gradient Boosting Classifier, LGBM Classifier, and XGB Classifier), we discovered that the predictive model utilizing the LGBM Classifier yielded the most consistent performance. Findings Our analysis of the relative significance of preference determinants revealed that industry type, geographical location, and employee count are pivotal factors influencing preference. Drawing from these insights, we propose targeted strategic interventions for policymakers, hidden champions, and young job seekers.
The significance of SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) is gradually highlighted as we have entered the age of "New Normal." The South Korean government support these enterprises to boost economic growth and create more jobs. It also releases numerous policies such as national R&D projects and expanding tax incentive services particularly aiming at promoting dramatic investment in R&D and technological innovation. There is a sharp contrast regarding the efficiency of direct or indirect supports for encouraging R&D investment launched by SMEs depending on researchers. However, there has been little attempt to explore the optimal combination of two policy tools. Amid promoting affiliated governmental departments in charge of SMEs policies and constantly growing R&D investment, it is an appropriate time to discuss the medium and long-term direction for the optimal policy mix of direct and indirect supports. In this study, the author obtained 32 relevant studies published earlier in the domestic journals, explored literatures more systematically, and further conducted a meta-analysis. It is dedicated to summarizing relevant controversies and organizes them empirically beyond merely verifying whether policy support stimulates private R&D investment by SMEs. The meta-analysis showed that it would be effective to support as tax for large enterprises, while subsidiary support for SMEs. However, indirect support needs to be progressively increased as direct support primarily accounts for the entire R&D support for South Korean SMEs.
Current socioeconomic condition in South Korea is characterized by growing country with highly unemployment rate. Enhancing service industry, therefore, is one of the important government policy issues. In addition to quantitative growth of service industries, OECD comparisons between countries as shown in the competitiveness of the domestic service industry, followed by a very low-level, enhancing the competitiveness of service industries are also important issues of national policy. In particular, finance, education, insurance industry, such as relatively large enterprises have entered the service industry to remain competitive and comparable, but the case of small service industries, has shown a very low level of competitiveness. Thus, the world's leading technology and IT infrastructure can be applied to small and medium-sized service industry in order to improve productivity, customer satisfaction, and service infrastructure, resulting in improving competitiveness. The purpose of this study is to develop government supporting policy issues by analyzing the current usage of IT, problems and requirement analysis, and critical success factors for applying IT to small and medium-sized service industries. For a survey 2,000 samples are collected from service companies. The results show that IT usage is very important to improve competitiveness in small and medium sized service industry. In addition, customized it solutions are needed to satisfy different characteristics of service industry depends on types of business. Finally, government supporting programs of IT has to be improved. The results would be able to provide directions and guide lines of IT utilization in service industries.
This study analyzed convergence status among input technologies used in technology development with Technology I-O analysis. It was another version of industry input-output analysis which is used in technology planning. This case is an analysis of association between technology an product. The subjects of analysis were 401 tasks that applied to '2012 Convergence Technology Development Project for Small and Medium Businesses' promoted by Korea Technology & Information Promotion Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises. The process of analysis is as followed. First step, we made a matrix table as an input of technology input-output analysis. Input was defined by technology and output was defined by the product. Input technology was defined in a 3-digit code under National Science Technology Classification and output products were defined in a 5-digit under National Standard Industry Code. Second, the Spillover ratio among technologies were calculated and was used to make a picture of technology linkage. As a result of analysis, technology spillover of embedded S/W was the highest in IT convergence, mold product in ET convergence, and functional cosmetics development technology in BT convergence. In general, IT convergence had many element technologies with high technology spillover, and ET had a small number of element technologies with high technology spillover. Therefore, investment effect of element technology is expected to be large if investment on element technologies with high technology spillover is important for vitalizing convergence.
This study micro-analyzed the impact of innovation capabilities on innovation performance by type of CEO, with innovative SMEs being subject to research. In addition, the impact of CEO type on innovative capabilities and the impact of innovative capabilities on innovation performance were studied together. In order to achieve the research objective, we conducted an empirical analysis of 250 innovative small and medium-sized enterprises registered in the medium-term department as research targets and the results are as follows. First, the analysis of the impact of the type of CEO on the capacity of innovation shows that market-oriented, technology-driven and consultant-type CEOs have a significant impact on the amount of technology change reduction, but managed CEOs do not see any statistically significant differences in the amount of technology change reduction areas. Managed CEOs did not see statistically significant differences in the amount of technology change-sensitive areas. In addition, it was analyzed that the current type of CEO of small businesses does not affect the R&D technology digestion capacity of technological innovation capabilities. Second, the analysis of the relationship between innovation capabilities and innovation performance did not have a statistically significant effect. Third, the analysis of the adjustment effect between the type of CEO and the capacity of innovation according to the growth stage of small businesses shows that the technology and the consultant-type CEO affect the amount of the area of technology change, but the managed and market-type CEOs did not have the adjustment effect. Fourth, the analysis of the capacity of innovation and the effect of adjustment between innovation and innovation in the growth phase of innovative SMEs did not have a statistically significant effect.
Purpose - The purpose of this study was to propose a specific and empirical continuous transaction strategy through service quality of improvement to small and medium Korean companies whose main business is B2B distribution and sale of general-purpose SW. Research design, data, and methodology - The research procedure is largely divided into two phases. In the first phase, the service quality, the customer satisfaction, and the continuous transaction research hypothesis and the verification are carried out. Experimental data were collected from 450 companies, CEO companies of SMEs innovation institutes, and 510 companies from medium and large enterprises. From September 15 to October 5, 2015, 215 questionnaires were used. And research hypothesis and test were conducted by SPSS SW Ver. 20. Results - The results of the study confirm that service quality has a positive effect on customer satisfaction and continuous transaction: as the detailed items for improving the service quality, 'responsiveness', 'assurance' and 'empathy' have been adopted. Therefore, there are critical factors of a company's survival through continuous transaction. Conclusions - Through this study, we confirmed that the survival of small businesses require continuous improvement in service quality. Among the factors improving service quality, empathy means service satisfaction of customers; so, it is necessary to continuously improve it by evaluating customer satisfaction. Responsiveness means rapid response to customer needs and reliability; it is necessary to enhance customer responsiveness by continuous job training and service training. Finally, assurance is the same as sales product or after service. This means that it is necessary to not only issue the "supply contract," but also improve the reliability of the sales product by securing the competence of the consulting professional. However, because the service quality measurement factors selected in this study are the measurement factors that are mainly applied to large companies or those in the service industries, it is important to consider the type of sales of software distribution companies.

The purpose of this research is to develop a standardization model for available stock management process among the entire Enterprise Resource Planning System modules of Automobile Parts Manufacturing Industry. The standardization model system is constructed through the phased method based on the development methodology of information establishment suggested by the Small and Medium Business Administration and Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for Small & Medium Enterprises. The standardization model is to develop the process modules of ordering management, storing management, delivering management, and stock management for available stock management process. The study will help the manufacturing business and related IT business which want to construct available stock management process under the ERP system to establish the system more effectively by applying the standardization model and also will provide them with construction availability and reliability. By application of this study results, the businesses will not only prevent the excessive possession of raw materials and products and reserve adequate and steady stock but also will check real-time stock, observe customer due date, decrease over-production and reduce stock cost.
As increasing IT investments in corporate decision makers' locus move from application level to organizational level. However, many companies still don't have a structured IT decision makings architecture. According to existing IT governance research, although companies are included in similar environment, size, and industry they have a variety of IT governance modes because of not single contingency factor but multiple contingencies factors. The goal of this study is to suggest key IT activities and contingency factors which affect IT decision makings architecture based on existing IT governance studies, to develop an IT governance research model with multiple contingencies theory, and to articulate IT governance architectures of small or medium sized companies in Korea. Through extracting a desirable IT governance framework, our research is going to help to increase companies' value.
Recently, much attention in building smart factory have been dramatically increased. Despite the growing interest in smart factory, few guidelines exist how to successfully build smart factory. The purpose of this study is to investigate successful cases in building smart factory in Korea. Drawing on the analysis of successful cases, we suggest the valuable guidelines and directions toward success of smart factory. As a result, in the case of large-size firms, it is an effective strategy that expanding from a model factory to whole factory for successful smart factory building. In addition, in the case of medium and small-size firms, it is an effective strategy that upgrading from low-level step to high-level step for successful smart factory building. Therefore, this study provides companies and government with specific and practical success strategies as well as industrial policy improvements.
