  • Bi-2212 HTS tube was fabricated by centrifugal forming process(CFP). As a variation of melt casting process(MCP) or centrifugal casting technique, the centrifugal forming process is a flexible method for manufacturing Bi-2212 bulk tubes and has been optimized to achieve smooth surface and uniform thickness. At this process, the slurry was prepared in the mixing ratio of 10:1 between Bi-2212 powder and binder and initially charged into the rotating mold under the speed of 300~450 rpm Heat-treatment was performed at the temperature ranges of 860 ~ $890^{\circ}C$ in air for partial melting. The HTS tube fabricated by centrifugal forming process at $890^{\circ}C$ under the rotating speed of 450 rpm was highly densified and the plate-like grains with more than 20$\mu$m were well oriented along the rotating axis. The measured Tc and Jc at 10K were around 85K and 3,000A/cm2 respectively.

  • Dye removal from waste water via adsorption by activated carbons (ACs) developed from agricultural wastes represents an ideal alternative to other expensive treatment options. Physical and chemical ACs were prepared from rice husks. The textural properties of the ACs were characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller-$N_2$ adsorption and scanning electron microscopy. The chemistry of the carbon surface was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, base and acid neutralization capacities, pH of the active carbon slurry, and $pH_{pzc}$. The adsorption capacities of the ACs for the basic dye (methylene blue) and acid dye (acid green 25) were determined using parameters such as contact time, pH, and temperature. NaOH-ACs showed the highest surface area and total pore volume, whereas steam-ACs showed the lowest ones.

  • Magnetorheological finishing(MRF) is a newly developed and recently commercialized for finishing optical components. The magnetorheological fluid consists of a water based suspension of carbonyl iron, nonmagnetic polishing abrasives, and small amounts of stabilizer. This magnetorheological fluid is pumped from conditioner on the rotating wheel and suctioned back to the conditioner, where it cooled to setpoint temperature and evaporative losses are replaced. This method could produce some problems in suction. So newly designed MRF tools is proposed in which MR fluid is not circulated and conditioned by the slurry. The new polishing mechanism is experimented. Measured surface roughness supports the validity of this mechanism.

  • Recently large capacity of electric equipment and increasing in atomic power generation are shown. One of the reason is shortage of the electric power supply for air conditioning load during summer. And every consumer is concerning about economical refrigeration and air conditioning system to decreases electric power consumption and decrease in global warming. For these necessities, ice making thermal storage system is required. Therefore, in this paper, the possibility of continuous slurry ice making using flowing organic water solution in cooled circular tube has been investigated. The experiments was carried out under some parameters of concentration and velocity of water solution, temperature of cooled tube wall, and control pressure in tube, As a result, four types of operating conditions in the pipe, that was supercooling, continuous ice making, intermittent ice making and ice blockage, were classified . And it was found that the critical condition for continuous ice making was acquired as a function of these experimental parameters.

  • Microstructure of hypereutectic Al-17wt.% Si alloy, fabricated by mechanical stirring and by reheating at semi-solid state, was investigated by optical microscope. Flow behavior semi-solid metal also was investigated at diffentent mould temperatures 280$^{\circ}C$, 290$^{\circ}C$ and 300$^{\circ}C$. Size of silicon particles were increased over 100$\mu\textrm{m}$ during solidification as a result of stirring. It is considered as microstructural coarsening by bonding between neighbouring primary silion particles during stirring of slurry. In case of reheating at semi-solid state, however, primary silicon particle was not increased at size of 40$\mu\textrm{m}$ and nearly spherical aluminum solde particle also could be obtained uniformly in distribution. The fludity of Al-17wt.% Si alloys at semi-solid state was improved when solid fraction was 0.7 at mould temperature of 300$^{\circ}C$ than other conditions.

  • Three different methods were employed to measure the degree of aerial oxidation in coal and the resulting oxidation/weathering indices were applied to obtain kinetic parameters of aerial oxidation processes, The index (i.e., slurry pH, Free Swelling Index, weight gain) values were subjected to kinetic analysis based on power-law Arrhenius type reaction model. The results show that activation energy of the aerial oxidation in 20-29$0^{\circ}C$ is in the range of 12-16 ㎉/㏖ and the agreement among three techniques is remarkable. The first order kinetic model is suitable in describing low temperature aerial oxidation process, except in the FSI case where the zero order expression is the best one.

  • The study was investigated to confirm the morphology of crystal from xonotlite to wollastonite at elevated temperature by electron microscopy. Mixtures of slaked lime and powdered quartz with plenty water were oscillated continuously in an autoclave under the pressure of 25kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 8 hours to obtain well crystallized xonotlite. This milky slurry consisting of xonotlite was gained and dried in oven at 11$0^{\circ}C$. Examination of the electron micrograhs showed the xonotlite to be developed thin lath-like crystals and to be formed aggregate as chestnut bur. Details of the morphology suggest that the heat-treated xonotlite up to 100$0^{\circ}C$ splited and deformed slightly in agreement with the topotaxial transformation theory of xonotlite to wollastonite. The molded material endured in good shape under 120$0^{\circ}C$ except a little shrinkage.

  • $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3(PZT)$ is very attractive ferroelectric materials for ferroelectric random access memory (FeRAM) applications because of its high polarization ability and low process temperature. However, Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) pressure and velocity must be carefully adjusted because FeRAM shrinks to high density devices. The contaminations such as slurry residues due to the absence of the exclusive cleaning chemicals are enough to influence on the degradation of PZT thin film capacitors. The surface characteristics of PZT thin film were investigated by the change of process parameters and the cleaning process. Both the low CMP pressure and the cleaning process must be employed, even if the removal rate and the yield were decreased, to reduce the fatigue of PZT thin film capacitors fabricated by damascene process. Like this, fatigue characteristics were partially controlled by the regulation of the CMP process parameters in PZT damascene process. And the exclusive cleaning chemicals for PZT thin films were developed in this work.

  • New powder compaction process, in which a Bingham semi-solid/fluid mold is utilized, is developed to fabricate micro parts. In the present process, a powder material is filled as slurry in a solid wax mold, dried and compressed. The wax is heated during compaction and becomes semi-solid state, which can acts as a pressurized medium for isostatic compaction. Since the compacted micro parts are very fragile, the mold's temperature is controlled to higher than its melting point during unloading, to avoid breakage of the compacts. To demonstrate effectiveness of this process, some micro compacts of alumina are shown as examples.
