Damage to forest trees, caused by wildfire, changes their spectral reflectance signature. This factor led to the initiation of a research project at the Remote Sensing & GIS Laboratory, Kookmin University, to determine if multispectral data acquired by IKONOS could provide fire scar and bum severity mapping. This paper will present detail mapping of burned areas in the eastern coast of Korea with IKONOS imagery. In addition, a single post-burn Landsat-7 ETM+ data was used to compare with IKONOS, the study area. Burn severity map based on IKONOS image was found to be affected by strong topographic illumination effects in the mountain forest. But it has better the delineation of the bum-scarred area. In this study the NDVI was analyzed for geometric illumination conditions influenced by topography(slop, aspect and elevation) and shadow(solar elevation and azimuth angle).
The objective of this study was to compare the condylar path and the anterior angle of articular fossa and to analyze the pattern of condylar path in edentulus patients. Nineteen male and female edentulous patients with normal masticatory system ranging in age 42 to 78, without present symptoms and any history of TMJ disturbance were selected for this study. On the computer analysis on the transcranial radiographs of the TMJ, the angle of slope of articular eminance and condylar path to the Frankfort Horizontal Plane and the height of glenoid fossa was measured respectively, and stuied their interrelationship comparatively. Obtained results were asfollows. 1. The angle of the slope of articular eminence averaged 37.28 degree. and there was no significant difference between the right and left side. 2. The condylar path angle averaged 29.05 degree and there was no significant difference between the right and left side. 3. The height of the glenoid fossa averaged 8.11 mm and there was no significant difference between the right and left side. 4. The sequence of the frequence of condylar movement patterns were concavex curve(39.5% ), 'S' shape curve(34.2%), reverse 'S' shape(15.8%) and convex curve(10.5%). 5. The horizontal distance of the point of the changed curve of the condylar path averaged 2.91 mm. 6. The height of glenoid fossa was highly correlated to the slope of articular eminence and relatively highly correlated to tile condylar path and the condylar path was closely correlated to the slop of articular eminence.
The backfilled space carl have various shapes such as vertical or lateral symmetric, unsymmetric slope depending on field conditions. Kellogg (1993) suggested the different equations for the backfill earth pressure and the lateral stress ratio considering that the stresses are different between the symmetrically sloped backfilled space and the vertical one. Kellogg (1993) assumed the stress generated on sloped wall surface as the simple internal friction angle of backfilled soil. However, Moon (1997) suggested modified Kellogg equation assuming that stress behavior in the sloped wall will be varied according to the rotation angle of principal stress and the friction of sloped wall surface. This study has compared and investigated the horizontal stresss of unsymmetrical backfilled space numerically and experimentally obtained when Kellogg lateral stress ratio is appled to and when average lateral stress ratio considering unsymmetric backfill slop of left and right are applied to the modified Kellogg equation. It is shown that the horizontal stress on the sloped wall has good match numerically and experimentally in the modified Kellogg equation when Kellogg's lateral stress ratio in symmetric condition is applied to the unsymmetric condition. But the horizontal stress on the vertical wall shows disagreement numerically and experimentally. The horizontal stress results in good agreement numerically and experimentally when the average lateral stress ratio of left and right at unsymmetric slop as applied to the modified Kellogg equation. Therefore, it is estimated that the application of the average lateral stress ratio to the left and right wall should be considered when backfilled space formed unsymmetric conditions.
This paper demonstrates safety factor for effective planning at initial stage by utilizing results on changes of safety factor according to various conditions of slop and examines impacts of factors that affect slope safety factors as well. Firstly, it describes shear strength which satisfies minimum allowable safety factor: 1.20 depending on height and slope. As the height increases by 5.0 m, the safety factors decrease by 0.04 while it tends to consistently reduce by approximately 20%, 30% and 40% after height goes to 10.0 m. As slope reduces by about 0.3, the safety factors increases by 0.4, which shows the rate of safety factors on slope grows by about 10%, 20% and 30% on lowering slope. When cohesion goes up by 10.0 kPa the safety factors increases by around 40% respectably while the angle of internal friction grows by $5^{\circ}$, it increases by about 8%. The rate of safety factors is identified as $Fs=3.86H^{-0.59}$, Fs = 0.43 s, Fs = 0.04 c, $Fs=0.02{\phi}$ depending on height, slope and shear strength. The safety factor with rainfall infiltration tends to increase by 18% compared to the condition of saturated surface on earth.

In this study, the stability of trench slope was analysed in summer and winter seasons for the construction of pipelines in permafrost regions. The construction standards of Korea, Russia and UK were compared for obtaining an optimum trench shape for a pipeline of 30 in. diameter. Using the geotechnical properties of soil in Yakutsk (Russia), the stability of trench slope was analysed using Strength Reduction Method (SRM) according to the horizontal slope angle values of $0^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$ and vertical slope angle values of $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $40^{\circ}$. In both seasons, an increase in the slope angle results in a decrease in the factor of safety. The results show that horizontal slope angle of $30^{\circ}$ was not safe in summer season. At the vertical slope angle of $20^{\circ}$, trench side failure was observed, whereas, ground slope failure was observed at the vertical slope angles of $30^{\circ}$ and $40^{\circ}$. Due to the solidification of pore water at temperatures below $0^{\circ}C$, cementation of soil particles take place. Therefore, the trench slope was found to be stable in the winter season at all vertical and horizontal slop angles, except for special load cases and abrupt temperature changes.

A study on film water flow on steep open channel has been seldom found up to date. Therefore, this paper dealed with the depth variation of film thickness of water (city supply normal water) flowing on steep open channel. For this purpose, Experimental apparatus (made of a normal glass with 160cm of length and 15cm of width) was made and the depths of the water flowing on the channel were measured experimentally, changing the channel slope angle from 30 to 80 degree (5 steps) and the flow rate from 0.25 to 10CPM (11 steps). The results obtained, some characteristics of the film flow on the channel are as follows. (1) When thin film water flowed on steep open channel, the depths of flow tended to increase after decreasing and was kept nearly constant in its downstream in case of laminar and transitional flow region. The turining point of the depths of flow from decrease to increase tended to move downward with the increase of Reynolds number. In turbulent flow region, the depths of flow showed reapid decrease in its upper stream, gradual decrease in its midstream and were kept nearly constant in its downstream. (2) While the differences between the depths of flow along the channel slope got small in its upper stream and got large in its downstream in case of laminar flow region, they got very large in its upper stream and were kept nearly constant in its downstream in case of transitional and turbulent flow region. And the move flow rate increases, the more the differences between the depths of flow along the channel slope got large in its upper stream.
A optimal reinforcement in the joint rock slope excavation adjacent to an existing tunnel would be influenced by excavation distance from the tunnel, slope angel, and joint conditions but has been empirically determined so far. In this study, large scale model tests were conducted to find out the relationship between load translation on the excavation surface and bebavior of the tunnel according to excavation steps of the jointed rock slope. Consequently, two main parameters, joint dip and sloped angle were investigated in those model tests. From the test results, it was found that tunnel deformation was the largest one when the excavation of joints located closer to the tunnel crown or invert. Stability of the slope and the tunnel were varied in a certain excavation stage related to the angle of slope. In the future, based on results of this study the reinforcement method for the tunnel and slope safety in a jointed rock mass will be demonstrated.
Fracture of cusp, on posterior teeth, especially those carious or restored, is major cause of tooth loss. Inappropriate treatments, such as unnecessarily wide cavity preparations, increase the potential of further trauma and possible fracture of the remaining tooth structures. Fracture potential may be directly related to the stresses exerted upon the tooth during masticatory function. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the fracture resistance of tooth, restored with composite resin inlay. In this study, MOD inlay cavity prepared on maxillary first premolar and restored with composite resin inlay. Three dimensional finite element models with eight nodes isoparametric solid element, developed by serial grinding-photographing technique. These models have various occlusal isthmus and depth of cavity, 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4 of isthmus width and 0.7, 0.85 and 1.0 of depth of cavity. The magnitude of load was 474 N and 172 N as presented to maximal biting force and normal chewing force. These loads applied onto ridges of buccal and lingual cusp. These models analyzed with three dimensional finite element method. The results of this study were as follows : 1. There is no difference of displacement between width of occlusal isthmus and depth of cavity. 2. The stress concentrated at bucco-mesial comer, bucco-disal comer, pulpal line angle and the interface area between internal slopes of cusp and resin inlay. 3. The vector of stress direct to buccal and lingual side from center of cavity, to tooth surface going on to enamel. The magnitude of vector increase from occlusal surface to cervix. 4. The crack of tooth start interface area, between internal slop of buccal cusp and resin inlay. It progresses through buccopulpal line angle to cervix at buccomesial and buccodistal comer. 5. The influence with depth of cavity to fracture of tooth was more than width of isthmus. 6. It would be favorable to make the isthmus width narrower than a third of the intercuspal distance and depth of cavity is below 1 : 0.7.
To find out the power tiller's travel and tractive characteristics on the general slope land, the tractive p:nver transmitting system was divided into the internal an,~ external power transmission systems. The performance of power tiller's engine which is the initial unit of internal transmission system was tested. In addition, the mathematical model for the tractive force of driving wheel which is the initial unit of external transmission system, was derived by energy and force balance. An analytical solution of performed for tractive forces was determined by use of the model through the digital computer programme. To justify the reliability of the theoretical value, the draft force was measured by the strain gauge system on the general slope land and compared with theoretical values. The results of the analytical and experimental performance of power tiller on the field may be summarized as follows; (1) The mathematical equation of rolIing resistance was derived as $$Rh=\frac {W_z-AC \[1+ \frac{sl}{K} \(\varrho ^{-\frac{sl}{K}-1\)\] sin\theta_1}} {tan\phi \[1+ \frac{sl}{K} \(\varrho ^{-\frac{sl}{K}-1\)\]+\frac{tan\theta_1}{1}$$ and angle of rolling resistance as $$\theta _1 - tan^1\[ \frac {2T(AcrS_0 - T)+\sqrt (T-AcrS_0)^2(2T)^2-4(T^2-W_2^2r^2)\times (T-AcrS_0)^2 W_z^2r^2S_0^2tan^2\phi} {2(T^2-W_z^2r^2)S_0tan\phi}\] $$and the equation of frft force was derived as$$P=(AC+Rtan\phi)\[1+ \frac{sl}{K} \(\varrho ^{-\frac{sl}{K}-1\)\]cos\phi_1 \ulcorner \frac {W_z \ulcorner{AC\[ [1+ \frac{sl}{K} \(\varrho ^{-\frac{sl}{K}-1\)\]sin\phi_1 {tan\phi[1+ \frac{sl}{K} \(\varrho ^{-\frac{sl}{K}-1\]+ \frac {tan\phi_1} { 1} \ulcorner W_1sin\alpha $$The slip coefficient K in these equations was fitted to approximately 1. 5 on the level lands and 2 on the slope land. (2) The coefficient of rolling resistance Rn was increased with increasing slip percent 5 and did not influenced by the angle of slope land. The angle of rolling resistance Ol was increasing sinkage Z of driving wheel. The value of Ol was found to be within the limits of Ol =2\ulcorner "'16\ulcorner. (3) The vertical weight transfered to power tiller on general slope land can be estim ated by use of th~ derived equation: $$R_pz= \frac {\sum_{i=1}^{4}{W_i}} {l_T} { (l_T-l) cos\alpha cos\beta \ulcorner \bar(h) sin \alpha - W_1 cos\alpha cos\beta$$The vertical transfer weight $R_pz$ was decreased with increasing the angle of slope land. The ratio of weight difference of right and left driving wheel on slop eland,$\lambda= \frac { {W_L_Z} - {W_R_Z}} {W_Z} $, was increased from ,$\lambda$=0 to$\lambda$=0.4 with increasing the angle of side slope land ($\beta = 0^\circ~20^\circ) (4) In case of no draft resistance, the difference between the travelling velocities on the level and the slope land was very small to give 0.5m/sec, in which the travelling velocity on the general slope land was decreased in curvilinear trend as the draft load increased. The decreasing rate of travelling velocity by the increase of side slope angle was less than that by the increase of hill slope angle a, (5) Rate of side slip by the side slope angle was defined as $ S_r=\frac {S_s}{l_s} \times$ 100( %), and the rate of side slip of the low travelling velocity was larger than that of the high travelling velocity. (6) Draft forces of power tiller did not affect by the angular velocity of driving wheel, and maximum draft coefficient occurred at slip percent of S=60% and the maximum draft power efficiency occurred at slip percent of S=30%. The maximum draft coefficient occurred at slip percent of S=60% on the side slope land, and the draft coefficent was nearly constant regardless of the side slope angle on the hill slope land. The maximum draft coefficient occurred at slip perecent of S=65% and it was decreased with increasing hill slope angle $\alpha$. The maximum draft power efficiency occurred at S=30 % on the general slope land. Therefore, it would be reasonable to have the draft operation at slip percent of S=30% on the general slope land. (7) The portions of the power supplied by the engine of the power tiller which were used as the source of draft power were 46.7% on the concrete road, 26.7% on the level land, and 13~20%; on the general slope land ($\alpha = O~ 15^\circ ,\beta = 0 ~ 10^\circ$) , respectively. Therefore, it may be desirable to develope the new mechanism of the external pO'wer transmitting system for the general slope land to improved its performance.l slope land to improved its performance.
