The cold spray process is an emerging technology that utilizes high velocity metallic particles for surface coating. Metallic powder particles are injected into a converging-diverging de Laval nozzle and accelerated to a high velocity by a supersonic gas flow. The cold spray process normally uses a circular nozzle that has a rather narrow spraying range. To overcome this fault, a slit nozzle was considered in this study. The slit nozzle is anticipated to reduce the coating process time because it has a wider coating width than the circular nozzle. However, the slit nozzle can reduce the coating efficiency because it does not allow as much gas and particle velocity as the circular nozzle. To improve the coating efficiency of a slit nozzle, the shape of the slit nozzle was modified. And the results of gas flow and particle behaviour according to the nozzlers shape were compared by the a numerical analysis. As a results, as Expansion Ratio(ER) of 7.5 was found to be the most optimal condition for enhancing the spraying efficiency when the ER was changed by the variation of nozzle neck and exit size.
In this paper, a novel triple-band planar inverted F antenna(PIFA) is proposed. The goal of this paper is to design a small antenna which is operated in triple band. Using T-shape slit and stacked U-shape parasitic patch, good impedance matching is achieved in three band. T-shape slit is inserted on the main patch in order to effectively control the excited patch surface current distributions. The proposed antenna occupies a small volume of $26{\times}9.5{\times}6mm^3$, and the obtained impedance bandwidths cover the required operating bandwidths of the GPS(1565-1585MHz), IMT-2000(1885-2200MHz) and Bluetooth (2400-2484MHz) bands.

In this study, a highly efficient shell-and-tube heat exchanger with plate fins is considered to improve thermal performance of the conventional shell-and-tube heat exchanger. This type of shell-and-tube heat exchanger with plate fins of various shape is simulated three-dimensionally using a commercial thermal-fluid analysis code. CFX4.4. The effect of the shape of the plate fin on heat transfer characteristics is also investigated by the simulation. Plate fins of four different shapes. plane, plane-slit. wave. and wave-slit fins, are considered. The flow fields, pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics in the heat exchanger are calculated. It is proved that the shell-and-tube heat exchanger with plate fins is superior to the conventional shell-and-tube heat exchanger without plate fins in terms of heat transfer. The shape of the plate fin is important in the performance of a heat exchanger such as heat transfer and pressure drop.
The energy dissipation of inverted V-type eccentric steel braced frames can be achieved through the yielding of a slit link, through yielding of a number of strips between slits when the frame is subjected to inelastic cyclic deformation. On the other hand, the development of seismic resistance system without residual deformation is obtained by applying the superelasdtic shape memory alloy (SMA) material into the brace and link elements. This paper presents results from a systematic three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis on the structural behavior of the eccentric bracing systems subjected to cyclic loadings. A wide scope of structural behaviors explains the horizontal stiffness, hysteretic behaviors, and failure modes of the recentering eccentric bracing system. The accurate results presented here serve as benchmark data for comparison with results obtained using modern experimental testing and alternative theoretical approaches.
This paper introduces an optical encoder using the reflection in the slit. The digital optical encoder is a sensor to generate a pulse according to the displacement. An optical encoder is composed of 3 parts: light source, slit plate and light-receiving element. In a conventional encoder, one slit produces one signal. The resolution of the digital optical encoder is determined by the number of slits in the encoder plate. The small slit size is most important among the factors that determine the resolution in a generic-type optical encoder. However, a small slit has low productivity and technical difficulties, so analog optical encoders have emerged as an alternative. Nonetheless, this alternative requires additional circuitry and equipment because of the noise and drafts in the analog signals. A new sensor is presented in this paper with a high resolution and a slit of the same size using the reflection in the slit. Then, the path of the light that passes through the slit ccording to the shape was analyzed, and some paths were expressed in the mathematical expressions. In addition, the optical paths were analyzed in the rectangular, octagonal, and circular encoders, and shown the obtained number of signals per slit by using them. Thus, we confirm that this method has the best performance in circle-shaped slits.
The caisson of the inner wall type has a weak point that reflecting wave is big. Therefore it has been studied that the research of the decreasing reflecting wave using installation the perforated wall in front of caisson to decrease of that weak point. In this study, we analyzed the characteristic of reflection horizontal and diamond style vertical slit caisson using hydraulic model test. According to the results of experiments, we could confirm that diamond style vertical caisson has a reflection coefficient which has lower than horizontal caisson of the reflection coefficient of 5~10%.
We have fabricated the low noise liquid helium(LHe) dewar with a different shape of thermal shield to apply the 64-channel SQUID(Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) gradiometer. The first shape of thermal shield was made of an aluminum plate with a wide width of 100 mm slit and the other shape was modified with a narrow width of 20 mm slit. The two types of dewars were estimated by comparing the thermal noise and the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of magnetocardiography(MCG) using the $1^{st}$ order SQUID gradiometer system cooled each dewar. The white noise was different as a point of the dewar. The noise was increased as close as the edge of dewar, and also increased at the thermal shield with the more wide width slit. The white noise of the dewar with thermal shield of 100 mm slit was 6.5 fT/$Hz^{1/2}$ at the center of dewar and 25 fT/$Hz^{1/2}$ at the edge, and the white noise of the other one was 3.5 - 7 fT/$Hz^{1/2}$. We measured the MCG using 64-channel SQUID gradiometer cooled at each LHe dewar and compared the SNR of MCG signal. The SNR was improved of 10 times at the LHe dewar with a modified thermal shield.
Large amounts of oily wastewater discharged from various industrial operations (petroleum refining, machinery industries and chemical industries) cause serious pollution in the aquatic environment. Although dissolved air flotation (DAF) separating oil pollutants using microbubbles represents current practice, bubble size cannot be selectively controlled, and lots of power is required to generate microbubbles. Therefore, to investigate performance of the DAF process, this study examined the distribution of different sizes of microbubbles resulting from changes in physical shear force via modifying shapes of a slit-nozzle without an additional power supply. Three types of slit-nozzles (different angle, shape and length of the slit-nozzle) were used to analyze the distribution of bubble size. At a slit angle of $60^{\circ}$, shear force was 4.29 times higher than a conventional slit, and particle size distribution (PSD) in the range between 2 and $20{\mu}m$ more than doubled. Treatment efficiency of synthetic oily wastewater through the coagulation-DAF process achieved 90% removal of COD by injecting $FeCl_3$ and PACl of 250 mg/L and 100 mg/L, respectively, and the same performance resulted using $FeCl_3$ of 200 mg/L and PACl of 80 mg/L employing a slit-nozzle angle of $60^{\circ}$. This study shows that a coagulation-DAF process using a modified slit-nozzle can improve the pre-treatment of oily wastewater.
