  • In this paper, a variable structure controller with time-varying sliding surface is proposed for robot manipulators. The proposed time-varying sliding surface ensures the existence of sliding mode from an initial state, while the contentional sliding surface cannot achieve the robust performance against parameter variations and disturbances before the sliding mode occurs. Therefore, error transient can be fully prescribed in advance for all time. Furthermore, it is shown that the overall system is globally exponetially stable. The efficiency of the proposed method for the trajectory tracking has been demonstrated by simulations.

  • This paper deals with a sliding mode control with uncertainty adaptation for the robust stabilization of input-delay systems with unknown uncertainties. A sliding surface including a state predictor is employed to compensate for the effect of the input delay. The proposed method does not need a priori knowledge of upper bounds on the norm of uncertainties, but estimates those upper bounds by adaptation laws based on the sliding surface. Then, a robust control law with the uncertainty adaptation is derived to ensure the existence of the sliding mode. A numerical example is given to illustrate the design procedure.

  • This paper presents a design method of sliding mode control (SMC) for single input linear systems with mismatched uncertainties. We define a virtual state based on the controllable canonical form of the nominal system. And we define a sliding surface for the augmented system with a virtual state. This sliding surface makes it possible to use SMC technique with various types of controllers. In this paper, we construct a controller that combines SMC with robust controller. We design a robust controller for the system with only mismatched uncertainties using a form of linear matrix inequality (LMI). We make a virtual state from this robust control input and the states of the nominal system. And we design a sliding mode controller that stabilizes the overall closed-loop system.

  • Sliding mode control(SMC) are carried out in this literature. And to make the controllers perform better, fuzzy logic was chosen,it makes PID controller auto-tuning parameters and reduced the chattering problem of sliding mode control. Since SMC take error and derivative of error as inputs, after comparison some results are obtained.PID controller response faster yet sliding mode control is much steadier. However certain problems cannot be ignored that the chattering phenomenal cannot be reduced entirely and this motion may hurt the machine; this project only considered a simple system, there is no guarantee PID can work as well as in this case for a much more complex system. MATLAB simulink was the main approach to obtain the performance of the two controllers: to observe the control output of the two controllers, electric circuit and special controllers are designed and tested in MATLAB.

  • In this paper, we design a terminal sliding mode controller based on neural network for nonlinear systems with uncertainties. Terminal sliding mode control (TSMC) method can drive the tracking errors to zero within finite time. Also, TSMC has the advantages such as improved performance, robustness, reliability and precision by contrast with classical sliding mode control. For the control of nonlinear system with uncertainties, we employ the self-recurrent wavelet neural network(SRWNN) which is used for the prediction of uncertainties. The weights of SRWNN are trained by adaptive laws based on Lyapunov stability theorem. Finally, we carry out simulations to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control.

  • Chattering-free sliding mode control is derived from the reaching law method and Lyapunov stability theorem. Its control input Is composed of continuous term and discontinuous term. By the combination of these terms, the robustness and tracking performance can be improved and the chattering can be avoided. But in the reaching mode, the sliding mode control is sensitive to the modeling uncertainties, parameter variations and disturbances, also it needs a large control input. These result in poor transient responses. In this paper, to overcome these problems in the reaching mode, a time-varying sliding surface is proposed. And it is applied to a 2-link SCARA robot manipulator, experimental results show that the transient response is improved and its ...

  • This paper proposes a new sliding mode controller combined with a multi-layer neural network using the error back propagation learning algorithm,, The network acts as a compensator of the conventional sliding mode controller to improve the control performance when initial assumptions of uncertainty bounds of system parameters are violated. The proposed controller can reduce th steady state error of conventional sliding mode controller with the boundary layer technique Computer simulation results show that the proposed method is effective to control dynamic systems with unexpectably large uncertainties.

  • A position tracking control schemes on the precise mechanical system in presence of nonlinear dynamic friction is proposed. A nonlinear dynamic friction is regarded as the bristle friction model to compensate effects of friction. The conventional sliding mode controller often has been used as a non-model-based friction controller, but it has a poor tracking performance in high-precision position tracking application since it completely cannot compensate the friction effect below a certain precision level. Thus to improve the precise position tracking performance, we propose the sliding mode control method combined with the friction-model-based observer having tunable structure of the transient response. Then this control scheme has a good transient response as well as the high precise tracking performance compared with the conventional sliding mode control without observer and the control system with similar type of observer. The experiments on the bali-screw drive table with the nonlinear dynamic friction show the feasibility of the proposed control scheme.

  • An iterative sliding mode observer is proposed to sensorless control of a PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor). The proposed sliding mode observer has the character which is robust to the disturbance and parameters variation. A low pass filter with the variable cut-off frequency is also proposed to compensate the delay of the rotor angle according to the rotor speed, it is led to save memory and minimize operation time. Experimental results show that the proposed sliding mode observer leads to the proper performance.

  • In this paper, a sliding mode control based on disturbance observer is proposed to attenuate disturbance responses in an active magnetic bearing system, which is subject to base motion. An algorithm for exactly decoupling the disturbance estimation dynamics from the sliding mode dynamics is developed. It is also shown that the proposed method preserves the robustness of the sliding mode and asymtotically achieves zero regulation error, in the presence of external disturbances and parametric uncertainties. The proposed control is applied to a 2-DOF active magnetic bearing system subject to base motion. The feasibility of the proposed technique is illustrated, and the results of an experimental demonstration are shown.
