  • In order to analysis the reason of sliding failure in embankment slope under construction in soft soil area, a model section located in Gimhae Region in Gyeongsangnam-Do, where the sliding failure had been occurred during embankment works in soft soil area, had been selected. This area had been firstly treated with the Pack Drain Method, and additional embankment works of 9.7 meters out of total 14 meters in thickness had been under construction. The results of analysis showed that the reason of sliding failure were overspeed in embankment construction and the overestimation of design factors in calculating strength of each layer of embankment and poor management and inaccuracy reading of measurement devices.

  • The Great Hall of Incheon International Airport Transportation Center has irregular curved roof structure. The structure consists of 13 main steel trusses. (the longest span of 162m, 480ton) The total weight of the truss is 6,300ton and the whole truss is made of 9,600 pieces which has the joint connected to maximum 13 different parts at one point and Roof Truss is supported by 12 Fabric Foundation. Considering the economical efficiency and the schedule, the Sliding Construction Method was used other than conventional erection method. The roof truss structure was divided into two blocks, 3,550ton and 2,700ton, each block was pre-erected on the Giant Sleigh off the site and was pulled 181m by using Tandem Pulling Jack and Strand to be set in place.

  • For the curved concrete track construction of 2018 winter Olympic sliding center in Pyeongchang, in this study proposed the digital fabrication technology using CNC. This method can control the 3D geometries of the curved concrete structure based on the digital design. Conventional method generates the construction errors because this method fabricates many temporary zig bar using 1:1 full size drawing for install frozen pipes and sets up each zig bars at the construction site. Propose method is effective to ensure the precise fabrication and construction of zig bars. Also this method can eliminate errors of the frozen pipes position and curved concrete construction.

  • In spite of the superiority of the sliding method in the building construction field, the AC induction motor servo control device is used as the power control technology in the building construction field in order to improve the problems of the hydraulic power control method, thereby contributing to the precision control and the productivity improvement. Based on Induction Motor Servo Controller, we proposed the development of a mobile sliding method using a complex combination of PC and MITY (MS) Servo.

  • This paper addresses the design of sliding model fuzzy-model-based controller using genetic algorithms. In general, the construction of fuzzy logic controllers has difficulties for the lack of systematic design procedure. To release this difficulties, the sliding model fuzzy-model-based controllers was presented by authors. In this proposed method, the fuzzy model, which represents the local dynamic behavior of the given nonlinear system, is utilized to construct the controller. The overall controller consists of the local compensators which compensate the local dynamic linear model and the feed-forward controller which is designed via sliding mode control theory. Although, the stability and the performance is guaranteed by the proposed method, some design parameters have to be chosen by the designer manually. This problem can be solved by using genetic algorithms. The proposed method tunes the parameters of the controller, by which the reasonable accuracy and the control effort is achieved. The validity and the efficiency of the proposed method are verified through simulations.

  • The published studies usually used analytical method, numerical methods or experimental method to determine the stress-strain state and displacement of the single-layer or multi-layer curved shell types, but with a small scale model. However, a full scale multi-layer doubly curved concrete shell roof model should be researched. This paper presents the results of the experiment and simulation analysis involving stress-strain state, sliding between layers, the formation and development of the full scale double-layer doubly curved concrete shell roof when this shell begins to crack. The results of the this study have constructed the load-sliding strain relationship; strain diagram; stress diagram in the shell layers; the Nx, Ny membrane force diagram and deflection of shell. Thisresults by experimental method on a full scale model of concrete have clarified the working of multi-layer doubly curved concrete shell roof. The experimental and simulation results are compared with each other and compared with the Sap2000 software.

  • An approach to calculate expected sliding distance of wave dissipating caisson breakwater is proposed. Time history of dynamic wave pressure for the calculation of sliding distance is made by extending conventional static wave pressure developed for the wave dissipating caisson breakwater. Construction of impact wave and standing wave was done by using duration time and maximum wave pressures of themselves. In the numerical analysis, the sliding distance for an attack of single wave and expected sliding distance for 50 years of wave dissipating breakwater by proposed method were compared with those by conventional method for uplift caisson breakwater. It was found that the sliding distance of wave dissipating breakwater by the proposed method is smaller than by conventional method.

  • This study proposes a new damper configuration for seismic performance improvement of heavy sliding facilities inside a building. For this purpose, we deal with two connection types of control system, and the parametric study has been performed to investigate their comparative seismic performances according to the variations of the control capacity. In order to simulate the seismic responses of the proposed system, we employed a recently-developed seismic response analysis method that can deal with the two-mass system with nonlinear frictional sliding behavior. The numerical results demonstrate that the typical method of diagonal bracing damper connection can exhibit effective control performance both on structure and the heavy sliding facilities, whereas the structure-facilities connection method does not show any control effect on both responses. On the other hand, the typical method has some limitations that it can adversely cause excessive sliding of the facilities, depending upon the frequency characteristics of structure and earthquake. On the contrary, the structure-facilities connection method is very effective in reducing the sliding displacement of the heavy facilities, even with small amount of control capacity. Thus, the following potential expectations can be inferred from these results: The typical diagonal bracing damper connection method will have some promising benefits in controlling the sliding facilities inside the building as well as the building itself, and the structure-facilities connection method can be a cost-effective way of protecting the internal heavy important facilities inside the structure already designed with sufficient seismic performance.

  • In this study, a model to calculate the expected total construction cost has been developed by combining a model to calculate the sliding distance of a caisson of a vertical breakwater and a model to calculate the rehabilitation cost of a caisson. The optimal cross-section of a caisson of a vertical breakwater is defined as the cross-section that requires a minimum expected total construction cost within the allowable limit of caisson sliding. Two allowable limits are considered: 0.1 m of the expected sliding distance during the lifetime of the breakwater and 0.1 of the probability that the cumulative sliding distance during the lifetime of the breakwater is greater than 0.3 m. A discount rate has also been introduced to convert the future rehabilitation cost to the present value. The introduction of the discount rate reduces the expected total construction cost for the caissons designed for shorter return periods due to frequent rehabilitations. The present design method requires a smaller cross-section than the conventional deterministic method in shallow water depths, enabling us to design a caisson more economically. On the other hand, the above-mentioned allowable limits of caisson sliding show similar results for smaller water depths, while, for larger depths, the former requires a larger cross-section than the latter.

  • This paper deals with a new adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller and its application to an inverted pendulum. We propose new method of adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control scheme that the fuzzy logic system is used to approximate the unknown system functions in designing the SMC of uncertain nonlinear systems. The controller's construction and its analysis involve sliding modes. The proposed controller consists of two components. Sliding mode component is employed to eliminate the effects of disturbances, while a fuzzy model component equipped with an adaptation mechanism reduces modeling uncertainties by approximating model uncertainties. To demonstrate its performance, the proposed control algorithm is applied to an inverted pendulum. The results show that both alleviation of chattering and performance are achieved
