This study used a convenience sampling method to find out the effect of healthy lifestyle habits of college students participating in leisure activities on sleep quality. The results are as follows. First, in majors according to the personal characteristics of college students, the arts and sports field showed higher exercise lifestyle habits than the natural field, and in leisure participation, college students participating in the sports field showed an effect on exercise lifestyle, health perception habits, eating habits, and subjective sleep. In the leisure activity period, it was found that students who participated in leisure activities for more than 3 years had an effect on exercise lifestyle, health perception habits, and daytime sleep. In leisure activity time, it was found that students who participated for 1-2 hours had an effect on exercise lifestyle, health perception habits, and eating habits. Second, it was found that bad lifestyle habits had an effect on sleep difficulties, and in daytime sleep, exercise lifestyle habits, bad lifestyle habits, and eating habits were found to have an effect.
This study examined the relationships sleep habits, daytime sleepiness, and problem behaviors. A cross-sectional survey design was used. Participants were 276 adolescents. Sleep habits, daytime sleepiness and problem behavior were measured by Adolescent Sleep Hygiene Scale (ASHS), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), and Korea-Youth Self Report (K-YSR), respectively. Data were collected from July to August, 2014 using self-reported questionnaires. Participants were middle school students, perceived their sleep time as enough and their sleep quality as good, have no problem behavior during sleep, and have no caffeinated drink for last a week were more likely to have higher score of sleep hygiene. Sleep habits score was associated negatively with daytime sleepiness and problem behaviors. Sleep impacts on physical growth, behavior, and emotional development of adolescent. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a sleep enhancement program for the good sleep habits of the adolescents, and to make efforts at home and school.
Objectives The purpose of this study is to research on sleep habits of weak children groups using objective evaluation tools. Methods This study surveyed 108 children and adolescents of 4~10 years old who visited the department of Pediatrics of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ Korean Medicine Hospital from June 19th, 2015 to August 28th, 2015. Weak Children Questionnaire and CSHQ (The Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire) were used to research on sleep habits of children. We analyzed the data by using PASW Statistics 18.0 with independent t-test. Results CSHQ Score of Weak Children Group was significantly higher than CSHQ Score of Normal Children Group (p<0.05). CSHQ Score ($Mean{\pm}SD$) of Normal Children Group was $52.92{\pm}5.72$ and CSHQ Score ($Mean{\pm}SD$) of Weak Children Group was $56.23{\pm}5.66$. Conclusions Weak Children Group had more sleep habit problems than Normal Children Group.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the dietary habits of Korean adolescents and to investigate their effects on sleep duration. Methods: This study is a secondary analysis drawn from the 2016 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey (N=65,528). ANCOVA was used to determine the relationship between dietary habits and sleep duration. Ordinal logistic regression was used to find out the effects of dietary habits on sleep duration adjusted for general characteristics and behavioral characteristics. Results: The group that consumed no breakfast (AOR=0.89, p<.001) had less sufficient sleep duration than those who had breakfast 7 times per week. The group that had drunk no milk (AOR=0.88, p<.001) had less sufficient sleep duration than those who enjoyed it 5 times per week. On the contrary, the groups that had no soda drinks (AOR=1.18, p=.015), caffeine drinks (AOR=1.77, p<.001), and sweet drinks (AOR=1.25, p<.001) were more likely to have sufficient sleep duration than the groups that consumed those beverages 5 times per week. Conclusion: It is important to educate adolescents about healthy eating habits including drinks and optimal sufficient sleep duration through a multidisciplinary approach.
Objective : This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of play on the relationship between toddlers' sleep habits and problem-solving. Methods : In total, 1,734 participants were selected from the 3rd wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children. A structural equation modeling approach was utilized to examine the relationship among toddlers' play, sleep habits, and problem-solving, as well as to investigate the mediating effect of play. Results : The monthly age of the study participants ranged from 23 to 32 months, with 885 (51.0%) boys and 849 (49.0%) girls. The indirect effects of play on problem-solving skills (β = 0.137, p = .006) were statistically significant, but the direct effects of sleep habits on problem-solving skills (β = -.015, p = .871) and the total effect (β = 0.122, p = .057) were not significant. Conclusion : This study indicated that sleep habits did not have a direct effect on problem-solving ability, but that the indirect effects were significant and fully mediated by play. Incorrect sleep habits can negatively affect lifelong development. Therefore, parents would need to be aware of whether their child is developing good sleep habits during the toddler age.
To evaluate the effects of sleep habits on the powers of beta waves and the sensory motor rhythm of the electroencephalogram (EEG), female college student subjects were divided into four groups, according to their sleep habits, as follows: GSHG (Good Sleep Habit Group), CSHG (Common Sleep Habit Group: late bedtime), CSDG (Cognitive Sleep Disorder-Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome Group), and NSDG (Non-cognitive Sleep Disorder-Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome Group). Brain function was stimulated by reading a book for 3 min in the morning (9~12 am) and the EEG was measured. According to the results, the powers of the beta waves and sensory motor rhythm were not different during the resting period among the four groups. However, during the reading stimulation period, the powers of beta waves and the sensory motor rhythm in the GSHG were significantly greater than in the other groups ($p$ <0.05). Beta powers during stimulation also increased in all brain areas in the GSHG ($p$ <0.05). Interestingly, these were decreased in the frontal and temporal lobes in the CSHG by the reading stimulation ($p$ <0.05). On the other hand, sensory motor rhythm, which represents focusing efficacy, only improved in the GSHG. These results indicate that the brain's focusing function during the reading stimulation was not properly operating in the morning in the female college students who had a delayed bedtime and bad sleep habits.
The Korean version of the morningness-eveningness questionnaire (MEQ) and sleep habits inventory were administered to 1,038 Korean male daytime workers and were analyzed according to age and chronotype to determine what these factors reveal about sleep habits in view of phase difference of circadian rhythm. The mean and distribution of scores on the MEQ moved significantly toward the morning type with aging. Bedtimes and waking times were progressively later from the morning, intermediate, to evening types, and were also earlier with aging. Preferred bedtimes and waking times showed more distinct differences than did the habitual times in each chronotype. The percentage of subjects who answered that sleep length was 'short', mood upon waking was 'bad', and variabilities of bedtime and sleep length were 'large' were greater in the young and evening types than in the elder and morning types, respectively. These findings suggested that subjects were shifted toward the morning type and the phase of circadian rhythm had moved forward with aging. Preferred bedtime and waking time were a better reflection of individual circadian rhythms than habitual bedtime and waking time.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations between sensory processing and sleep disturbances and to investigate the effect of sensory processing on sleep disorder in preschool children with developmental disorder. This study was conducted for 110 children with developmental disorder in developmental clinic and rehabilitation hospital in Gwang Ju from June to August, 2017. The final 109 data were analyzed. Sensory processing and Sleep disturbances were measured using the Shortened sensory profile(SSP) and Korean-the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire(K-CSHQ). Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed. Children with developmental disorder had problems with sensory processing and sleep habits. Sensory processing was related to sleep habit and most important factors of sensory processing influencing sleep was taste/olfactory sensitivity, auditory filtering. Conclusion: In order to help children with developmental disorder with sleep problem, it is necessary to consider the sensory processing especially taste/olfactory sensitivity, auditory filtering.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate sleep habits, sleep disturbance, and circadian types, and to identify factors influencing sleep disturbance in nursing students. Methods: Participants were 140 senior nursing students. The data were collected from May 19 to 27, 2008 using self-report questionnaires. Results: 1) Evening type delayed sleep-wake schedules were more frequent than for morning type, especially during weekend and evening shift duty. 2) In total sleep time, there were no significant statistical differences between morning type and evening type during weekdays, weekend, day or evening shift duty. 3) On weekdays and day shift duty, the mean score for sleep disturbance was significantly higher in the evening type compared to the morning type. 4) Sleep disturbance in weekday and day shift duty was influenced by circadian types, eating habits, and gender. Conclusion: The circadian types are a very important factor for determining the sleep quantity and quality in nursing students.
Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) of Horne & Ostberg(1976) was translated into a Korean version, and MEQ and life habit inventory was administrated with approximately 900 university students. The distribution of MEQ score was normal. Arising time and bedtine for weekdays and holidays came in the order of morning type, intermediate and evening-type. And the deviation for the evening-type was greatest. Also, the deviation of sleep length for the evening-type was greater than the morning- type. There were tendencies that the bed time and arising time of the male were slightly later than those of the female, and the sleep length of the male was a little longer than that of the female. It also appeared that the arising time was later in the male who completed the military services than those who did not in the chronotype. And the sleep length of the non-served male was longer than that of the served one. Such tendencies noticeably appeared especially the evening-type. The evening-type was subject to heavy variability in bedtime. arising time, and sleep length. The sleep latency of the evening- type was longer and mood on arising was worse. And the ratio of nap or light sleep was higher in these subjects than in others. These results suggested that evening-type students had more irregular and/or flexible sleep-wake habits than the morning-type.
