Bovine tuberculosis is an important zoonosis worldwide. Mycobacterium bovis, the causative agent of this disease in cattle, is also a pathogen for humans and several economically important animals. The cases of tuberculosis are reported in two cow found at slaughter house located in Gwangju city. Histopathologically, in the lymph nodes, granulomas consisted of large areas of necrosis surrounded by variable thick bands of cellular infiltrate containing macrophages, Langhans-type multinucleated giant cells and lymphocytes. Lesions in the lung followed the same developmental pattern as did lesions in the lymph nodes with some exceptions. With the acid-fast staining, numerous mycobacteria were revealed in the lung and lymph nodes. M bovis was confirmed as a causative agent in these cattle using bacterial isolation and PCR and restriction fragment length polymorphism method based on a unique 12.7 kb fragment insertion sequence from the Mycobacterium tuberculosis genome and the pncA polymorphism, The insertion element IS6110 and IS1081 were present M bovis isolated from lungs and lymph nodes of cattle using PCR assay. These cases are interesting and important in public health aspect that M bovis-infected cattle were found during a routine post-mortem inspection at slaughter house.
In order to know the incidence of foot rot in herds and slaughter houses, a total of 3,665 cattles were examined the incidence rate, vaccination. and drug susceptibllity the during the period from June to Novemer 1989. Eighty nine (2.42%) of'3,665 cattles were affected by the foot rot. and the highest incidence was observed on July and August. The foot rot was affected more frequently in hind limbs than frort limbs. In the vaccinated cattles of non affected herds, the disease was not occurred after-wards. Affected cattles which were treated with saturated picric acid gave more effective than those with 10% cupuric acid or 5% formalin in comarative treatment test.
Incidence of foot disease of Korean native cattle (231 cases) and Holstein (310 cases) in slaughter house was observed from July August, 1984. 1. Incidence rate of foot disease was 9.09%, 12.90% and 11.27% for Korean native cattle, Holstein and total respectively. 2. Chronic necrotic pododermatitis showed the highest incidence among all foot disease and it's incidence rate was 6.47% in all cattle observes. 3. Topographical incidence rate of chronic necrotic pododermatitis was 25.7%, 60.0% and 14.3% for forefoot, hind foot and not specified respectively, so the disease showed high incidence rate in hind foot.
To get the information of sanitary develoment of beef and pork, we get the result of environmental specimens(slaughter house floors, sewage, etc) in laboratory. 1. After examination of bacterial infection on after-bleeding, after-dismemberment and final products at each stage of cattle slaughter process, we got log 3.80~7.48cfu/$\textrm{cm}^2$ of aerobic plate counts and log 2.60~5.23cfu/$\textrm{cm}^2$ of coliform counts or so from the carcasses after bleeding, but these count levels went down little bit after dismemberment but as we continued study to the final products, the count levels kept sililar in mumbers. 2. At the slaughter process of pigs, the aerobic plate counts and the coliform counts reached such high levels of log 5.59~8.80cfu/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and log 3.31~5.67cfu/$\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively, after bleeding, in general, these count diminished in a big way after scalding, but they increased just little bit from dismemberment to final products. And there were few differences in the contamination levels on the final products no matter what seasonal contaminations after bleeding. 3. Test revealed very low levels of cell counts both on the aerobic plate counts of washing water and in the coliform counts, the former was log 1.00~2.69cfu/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and the later was log 3.30~5.67cfu/$\textrm{cm}^2$, but the contamination levels on the beds of transfering vehicles for carcasses were very high as followes : the aerobic counts was log 4.23~7.20cfu/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and coliform counts was log 2.86~5.20cfu/$\textrm{cm}^2$. 4. Study showed the aeroboc plate counts and the coliform counts get to the highest levels in summer, the second highest one is in fall, the third in spring, lowest in winter. Resulting from the test results proven above we reached this kind of conclusion the bacterial contaminations on eatable carcasses were upto hygienic treatment of carcasses and cleaniness of transfering vehicles at the final stop of slaughter processes rather than upto at any stage of slaughter processes. Therefore we have got to establish alternatives immediately to develo sanitary quality of meat and pork.
Optimum drying conditions to utilize porcine blood from slaughter house for blood meals, and the effects of blood meals on growth in broiler chicks were investigated. Moisture and protein con-tents of slaughter porcine blood were 79.8 and 16.4%, respectively. The protein contents of the flash dried blood meals at 80˚C were not different from those of the spray dried blood meals at 160 and 190˚C, but higher by 17% relative to those of the spray dried blood meals at 80 and 120˚C. Results from protein analysis by SDS-polyacrylamide electrophoresis showed that flash dried blood meals at 80˚C and spray dried blood meals at 160˚C were better than spray dried blood meals at 80, 120 and 190˚C in terms of protein quality. In Feeding Trial I with broiler chicks, body weights of chicks fed 2, 4 and 6% flash dried blood meal diets at 80˚C were increased at 35 days by 5.6, 7.9 and 4.0%, respectively, compared to control group(P<0.05). In Feeding Trial II, body weights of chicks fed 4 and 6% flash dried blood meal diets at 80˚C were increased at 42 days by 4.9 and 5.3%, respectively, compared to control group(P<0.05). Feed conversion ratios of chicks fed diets 4 and 6% flash dried blood meal diets at 80˚C were significantly improved at 42 days by 7.0 and 3.7%, respectively, compared to that of control group(P<0.05). The optimum drying condition of slaughter porcine blood seemed to be the flash drying method at 80˚C
This is a case report of spinal cord abscess in pork carcasses. We have detected 7 cases with spinal cord abscesses in abattoir from January to October 2008. It may occur from either direct extension or hematogenos infection. Four cases were presumed by hematogenous infection because of no external wound, and 3 may be caused by direct extension. The infection is a result of external wound in 3 pigs and is a result of hematogenous spread in 4 pigs. The incidence rate of spinal cord abscess in sows is higher than that in pigs.
The ovaries of Korean native cows or heifers were obtained from a slaughter house and kept on 28~3O˚C and transported to laboratory within 2 hrs. The follicular oocytes were collected follicles. The oocytes were matured in vitro for 24 hrs. In TCM-199 supplemented with 35 $\pi$g /ml FSH, 10 $\pi$g /ml LH, 1 $\pi$g /ml estradiol-17 and granulosa cells at 39˚C under 5% $CO_2$ in air. The caudal epididymis of Korean native bulls were obtained from a slaughter house and transported to laboratory within 30 minutes. Swim-up of collected spermatozoa and freezing sperm was layered under 2ml fertilization B. 0. medium in two tissue culture tubes and held at a 45˚C angle for 0~2 hrs. They wrer fertilized in vitro by freezing sperm treated with heparin for 24 hrs, and then the zygotes were co-cultured in vitro with bovine oviductal epithelial cells for 7 to 9 days. The follicular oocytes recovered were classified into 41.7% as grade I, 51.5% as grade II and 6.8% as graed III. The number of oocytes recovered per ovary was averaged 8.3 and they were classifed into 2.3 as grade I, 2.5 as grade II and 2.3 as grade III. The cleavage rate of matured oocytes was significantly(P
This study was conducted to find out the recovery rate of oocyte according to the different size of follicles from porcine ovaries, and the effect of in vitro maturation of porcine immature oocyte at the different transportation temperature of ovaries from slaughter house. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1. The number of follicles per ovary was 22.5. The number of A-and B-typed oocytes(type A: cumulus-enclosed oocyte, type-B : corona-enclosed oocyte) per ovary was 2.4. The proportion of A-and B-typed oocytes was 29.6% of the total recovery oocytes. 2. When the immature oocytes were cultured for 36, 40, 44 and 48 h at 5$^{\circ}C$ transportation temperature of ovary, the germinal vesicle breakdown(GVBD) rates of porcine oocytes were 32.5, 28.2, 22.6 and 25.9% respectively. There were no significant differences between all the culture time for GVBD. Especially, most of oocytes were observed to arrest the development beyond germinal vesicle(GV) stage. 3. When the immature oocytes were cultured for 36, 40, 44 and 48 h at $25^{\circ}C$ transportation temperature of ovary, the GVBD rates were 81.0, 90.0, 91.7 and 92.9%, and the maturation (Met-II) rates were 51.2, 78.8, 76.2 and 78.6%, respectively. 4. When the immature oocytes were cultured for 36, 40, 44 and 48 h at 38$^{\circ}C$ transportation temperature of ovary, the GVBD rates were 93.9, 96.5, 96.5 and 95.3%, and the maturation rates were 62.2, 88.4, 84.7 and 86.0%, respectively. 5. The above results showed that the maturation rates of immature oocytes between $25^{\circ}C$ and 38$^{\circ}C$ transportation temperature of ovary did not differ significantly.
The prevalence of Coxiella burnetii in native Korean goats in Jeonbuk province was investigated using ELISA (sera) and PCR (vaginal mucus). A total of 798 blood samples from 189 farms were collected in 2013 and 2015. Seroprevalence was 13.6% in 2013 and 15.7% in 2015. Tracking survey of six seropositive farms on the prevalence of C. burnetii was conducted. 137 (41.4%) out of 331 goats were seropositive and 47 (17.6%) out of 267 goats were positive in PCR. The higher seropositivity observed in adult goats and female goats significantly, the seroprevalence of C. burnetii was higher as age increased (<1 y=13.2%~${\geq}5$ y=100%)(P<0.05) and female goats (44.8%) was higher than male goats (24.1%) on the seroprevalence (P<0.05). 21 (7.9%) goats positive in PCR was seronegative. The prevalence of C. burnetii in native Korean goats in slaughter house was 30.0% in ELISA and 11.5% in PCR. Significantly, female goats (62.8%) was higher than male goats (12.3%) on the seroprevalence (P<0.05). Based on these data, C. burnetii was easily exposed in domestic animals: native Korean goats-related areas such as farms and slaughter house.
The bovine fat necrosis is often seen as an incidental lesion in the adipose tissues of the abdominal cavity. Most of affected animals, however, have been detected at the slaughter house or routine necropsy. The purpose of this study was to examine the occurrence and distribution of abdominal fat necrosis in Korean native cattle, and its pathologic features. Postmortem inspection at an Chonju abattoir during a three-month period in 1997 detected at necrosis lesions in 67(6.6%) of the 1,012 animals received for slaughter. The occurrence was mainly in alimentary tracts and perirenal. Both sexes were affected, but the lesion were predominantly occurred in female. Gross lesions were white or yellowish in color and formed hard lumps irregular in shape ranging from small nodules to large solid masses. On the cut surface, lesions were occasionally seen chalky calcified granules and some of the lesions contained oil-like fluid. The surface of irregular shaped masses constricted kidneys and intestinal loops. Microscopically, the masses were encapsulated by thickened fibrous tissue, which infiltrated deeply and divided them into many irregular lobules. Initial lesions presented mild inflammatory cell and fibrous proliferation. It became fibroplasia in progressive lesions and resembled chronic lesion, eventhough no grossly apparent inflammatory reaction. The hard consistency of masses, due to fibroplasia, can compress the intestines, urinary organs, and reproductive organs.
