  • Seed size is a important yield components in soybean (Glycine max L.). The seed size frequency distributions in the mating between two G. max parents possessing quite different seed size exhibited a continuous distribution in the F$_{2}$ and F$_{3}$ generations. A progeny seed size equal to that of either parent was not observed in either generation. The population mean seed size in each generation was less than the mid-parent, with the distribution of lines skewed toward the small seeded parent.

  • Studies On the myelinated fibers of the recurrent laryneal nerves were made in five, species of domestic animals namely dog, pig, goat, horse and Korean ox. Throughout the studies, the following characteristics of the myelinated fibers were obtained. 1. The number, size and cross sectional area of the myelinated fibers seemed to be proportionally related to the animal body weights. 2. The highest peak of diameter size frequency distribution of the myelinated fibers, observed at the right cranial level, in dog, goat and horse were 4-6 micron group, while in the case of Korean ox, 10-12 micron group was the highest. 3. The highest peak of diameter size frequency distribution of the myelinated fibers, observed at the right caudal level of Korean ox was 6-8 micron group, and 4-6 micron group was the highest in the other animals. 4. The highest peak of diameter size frequency distribution of the myelinated fibers obsered at the left cranial level was same to that of right cranial level. 5. The highest peak of diameter size frequency distribution of the myelinated fibers, observed at the left caudal levels in dog, goat, horse and Korean ox was 4-6 micron group, while in case of pig, $14-16{\mu}$ group was the highest. 6. The largest cross sectional areas were found in the group of 10-16 micron in all species of animals. 7. The fiber diameter size frequency distribution of recurrent laryngeal nerves of dog, goat, pig and horse were bimodal and Korean ox seemed to be a unimodal.

  • This study was designed to estimate the improvement of Validity for food frequency questionnaire(FFQ) by offering multiple choice portion size in developing a questionnaire. Validity of the two methods(food frequency questionnaire I=FFQ I & Food frequency questionnaire II=FFQ II) was tested in comparison with reference method of the 7-day weighed record(7DWR). Dietary consumption data of the three methods(FFQ I, FFQ II & 7DWR) were collected from 101 female university students for the analysis. Validity was measured in two categories : One was the nutrient intake value from the three methods, the other was the identification of between individual variation within the group. Spearman's rank order correlation test and distribution graphs were used for the analysis. The result showed that individual intake value of the FFQII was closer to that of the 7DWR than that of the FFQ I.Spearman's rank order correlation between the FFQII and the 7DWR did not show any improved correlation. The distribution graphs of nutrient intake derived from both the FFQ I and the FFQII were different from that of the 7DWR. Therefore, it could be suggested that single one portion size food frequency questionnaire is an equally efficient method as a multiple choice food frequency questionnaire to be adopted in epidemiologic studies.

  • In Korea, marine fish landed at ports are randomly sampled on a periodic basis (e.g., daily or weekly), and body sizes (e.g., lengths and weights) of those sampled fish are measured. The motivation for our study is whether or not such measurements reflect the size distribution, especially the length distribution of fish landed (= a population), because such length measurements are key data for a length-based assessment model. The current sampling method is to sample fish landed at ports by body size group (e.g., very small, small, medium, large, very large), using the sampling weights as the number of boxes by body size group. In this study, we showed that length composition data about fish sampled by the current method did not represent the length frequency distribution of the fish landed, and suggested that an alternative sampling method should be applied of using the sampling weights as the number of fish landed by body size group. We also introduced a method for determining an appropriate sample size.

  • This research estimated Pinus densiflora distribution and suggested an optimal grid size of DEM for ecologically better explaining spatial distribution and appearance pattern of Pinus densiflora and analyze appearance frequency of Pinus densiflora by topographical factors. And this work ultimately aimed at topographically analyzing spatial distribution of Pinus densiflora by comparing impact of topographical factors. The aspect was analyzed in detail, east, west, south, north, from DEM with 1m grid size, and simply, east, west, south or east, south from DEM with bigger grid size. As a result of distribution of Pinus densiflora by aspect, Pinus densiflora appeared in all aspect with smaller grid size, while distribution in specific aspect decreased with bigger grid size. The analysis of appearance frequency with 100m grid size represented spatial distribution characteristics of Pinus densiflora as visual interpretation showed. The results of comparing impact of aspect, slope, TWI proved that aspect have more impact on distribution of Pinus densiflora than slope and there was not enough a difference between impact of slope and TWI.

  • High- and multi-frequency acoustic systems can measure a zooplankton patch successively and estimate the spatial distribution and abundance of zooplankton according to size using a multi-frequency inversion (MFI) method. This study measured zooplankton distribution to a depth of 150m using a multi-frequency acoustic system (TAPS-6), installed on a CTD system with a fluorometer and analyzed it using the MFI method. Simultaneously, zooplankton samples were collected by north pacific standard (NORPAC) net to confirm the species composition. The results showed that the combined method is valuable for estimating the zooplankton profile in detail and investigating the relationship between the zooplankton and phytoplankton profiles.

  • The High-frequency (30 ∼ 120 ㎑) bottom reflection loss at rough water-sediment interface is affected by the gram size distribution of the sediments. The roughness of the bottom surface is represented by "acoustical roughness. g/sub R/" The grain size of sandy sediments is g/sub R/∼O(1) and the dependence as a function of frequency. We suggest the modified bottom reflection loss model (HYBRL model , HanYang university Bottom Reflection Loss model) that include in the deviation of the reflection loss as a function of the grain size distribution and frequency dependence. And bottom reflection loss model of frequency dependence and deviation of bottom properties is verified by water tank and field experiments.
