  • 본 연구에서는 초전도 양자 간섭장치(SQUID, superconductiong quantum inte- rference device)를 냉각시킬 수 있는 정도의 소용량(3.995K에서 0.1W)의 GM/J-T 냉동 기에 대하여 요구되는 냉각용량을 만족시키면서 최대의 성능을 나타낼 수 있는 열교환 기의 면적배분 조건을 구하였다. 즉 냉동 성능을 알고 있는 상용 2단 GM 냉동기와 소형 극저온 냉동기에 널리 사용되는 열교환기로 이루어진 복합적인 GM/J-T 냉동기에 대하여 열교환기 총면적이 주어졌을 때, J-T 회로내의 냉매(헬륨)의 유량과 각 열교환 기 전열 면적의 비를 변수로 최적설계를 행하였다.

Optimization of Oil from Moringa oleifera seed using Soxhlet Extraction method

  • Extraction of oil from Moringa oleifera seed using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was investigated. Effects of three factors namely: sample mass, particle size and extraction time on the response, Moringa oleifera a volume extracted, were determined. The Box-Behnken design of RSM was employed which resulted in 15 experimental runs. Extraction was carried out in a 250 ml Soxhlet extractor with Hexane and Ethanol as solvent. The Moringa oleifera seed powder was packed inside a muslin cloth placed in a thimble of the Soxhlet extractor. The extraction was carried out at 60℃ using thermostatic heating mantle. The solvent in the extracted oil was evaporated and the resulting oil further dried to constant weight in the oven. This study demonstrates that Moringa oleifera oil can be extracted from its seed using ethanol and acetone as extraction solvent. The optimum process variables for both solvent (ethanol and acetone) was determined at sample weight of 40 g, particle size of 325 ㎛ and extraction time of 8 hours. It can be deduced that using acetone as solvent produces a higher yield of oil at the same optimum variable conditions compared to when ethanol was used.

Prediction of rock fragmentation and design of blasting pattern based on 3-D spatial distribution of rock factor

  • The optimum blasting pattern to excavate a quarry efficiently and economically can be determined based on the minimum production cost, which is generally estimated according to rock fragmentation. Therefore, it is a critical problem to predict fragment size distribution of blasted rocks over an entire quarry. By comparing various prediction models, it can be ascertained that the result obtained from Kuz-Ram model relatively coincides with that of field measurements. Kuz-Ram model uses the concept of rock factor to signify conditions of rock mass such as block size, rock jointing, strength and others. For the evaluation of total production cost, it is imperative to estimate 3-D spatial distribution of rock factor for the entire quarry. In this study, a sequential indicator simulation technique is adopted for estimation of spatial distribution of rock factor due to its higher reproducibility of spatial variability and distribution models than Kriging methods. Further, this can reduce the uncertainty of predictor using distribution information of sample data. The entire quarry is classified into three types of rock mass and optimum blasting pattern is proposed for each type based on 3-D spatial distribution of rock factor. In addition, plane maps of rock factor distribution for each ground level are provided to estimate production costs for each process and to make a plan for an optimum blasting pattern.

  • Linear motor has been considered to be the most suitable electric machine for high speed and high precision linear motion control. Thrust of linear motor is one of the important factor to specify motor performance. Maximum thrust can be obtained by increasing the current in conductor and is relative to the sizes of conductor and magnet. But, the current and the size of conductor have an effect on temperature of linear motor. Therefore, it is practically important to find design results that can effectively maximize the thrust of linear motor within limited range of temperature. Finite element analysis was applied to calculate thrust and numerical solutions were compared with experiment. The temperature of the conductor was calculated by the thermal resistance which was measured by experiment. The optimum design process was coded by the ADPL of ANSYS which is a commercial finite element analysis software. Design variables and constraints were chosen based on manufacturing feasibility and existing products. As a result, it is shown that temperature of linear motor plays an important role in determining optimum design.

  • Hot press forming can produce high-strength components by rapidly cooling between closed punch and die after hot forming using quenchable boron steel austenized in a furnace. In the hot press forming process, the cooling rate is influenced by the size, position and arrangement of the cooling channel and the file condition of cooling water in the die. Also, mechanical properties of the final components and operation time are related to cooling rate. Therefore, the design of optimized cooling channel is one of the most important works. In this paper, the effect of position and size of the cooling channel on the cooling rate was investigated by using design of experiment and FE analysis in hot press bending process. Therefore the optimum cooling channel ratio was presented in the HPB.

  • A new design of cylindrical capacitive sensor(CCS) for the displacement measurement of precision active magnetic bearing(AMB) spindle is presented in this paper. This research is motivated by the problem that existing 4-segment CCS is still sensitive to the $3^{rd}$ harmonic component of the geometric errors of a rotor. The procedure of designing new CCS starts from the modeling and error analysis of CCS. The angular size of CCS is set up as a design parameter, and new 8-segment CCS is introduced to possess an arbitrary angular size. The optimum geometry of CCS to minimize the effect of geometric errors is determined through minimum norm approach. Experimental results with test rotors have confirmed the improvement in geometric error suppression.

  • An analytical method for the optimum design of the minimum die size in power MOSFETs is presented. The proposed methodology considers the thermal resistance of the package and gives the minimum die area for desired drain current levels. The results are compared with experimental data and it is found that the die size mar be reduced if it is designed according to the proposed design procedure.

  • As industry is developed, the faster transportation of freight train is demanded. The optimum design of a structure requires the determination of economical member size and shape of a structure which will satisfy the design conditions and the functions. In this study, it is attempted to minimize the dead weight of bogie frame. From the numerical results in the shape and size optimization of the bogie frame, it is known that the weight can be reduced up to 17.45% with the displacement, stress, first natural frequency and critical buckling-load constraints. The first natural frequency and the critical buckling load of the optimized model is larger than that of the lowest design value. Stress and displacement conditions are also satisfied within the design conditions. From the results, the optimal model is stable and useful for the improvement of railway carriages.

  • Predicting a pressure drop between inlet and outlet of the filter system is essential in designing the optimum filter system. This experiment has been carried out to investigate several design parameters which influence in a pressure drop, such as different tube length and metal fiber filter mesh size. A 1/50 scale filter system was made to simulate a real filter system. Results are compared with Darcy equation for a porous media.
