  • Due to the remarkable development of the GIS and spatial information technology, the information on the national land and scientific management are disseminated. According to the result of research for an efficient analysis of forest site, it presents distinguishing of satellite image and methodology of TPI (Topographic Position Index). The prediction of forest site distribution through this research, specified Gyeongju-si area, gives an effect to distinguishing honor system through Quickbird image with the resolution 0.6m. Furthermore it was carried out through TPI grid that is abstracted by DEM, slope of study area and type of topography, as well as it put its operation on analysis and verification of relativity between the result of prediction on forest site distribution and the field survey report. It distinguishes distribution of country rock that importantly effects to producing of soil, using 1: 5000 forest maps and grasping distribution type of soil using satellite image and TPI, it is supposed to provide a foundation of the result on prediction of forest site. With the GIS techniques of analysis, inclination of discussion, altitude, etc, and using high resolution satellite image and TPI, it is considered to be capable to provide more exact basis information of forest resources, management of forest management both in rational and efficient.

  • The Seismic probabilistic risk assessment (SPRA) or seismic margin assessment (SMA) have been used for the seismic safety evaluation of nuclear power plant structures and equipments. For the SPRA or SMA, the reference response spectrum should be defined. The site-specific median spectrum has been generally used for the seismic fragility analysis of structures and equipments in a Korean nuclear power plant Since the site-specific spectrum has been developed based on the peak ground motion parameter, the site-specific response spectrum does not represent the same probability of exceedance over the entire frequency range of interest. The uniform hazard spectrum is more appropriate to be used in seismic probabilistic risk assessment than the site- specific spectrum. A method for modifying the seismic fragility parameters that are calculated based on the site-specific median spectrum is described. This simple method was developed to incorporate the effects of the uniform hazard spectrum. The seismic fragility parameters of typical NPP components are modified using the uniform hazard spectrum. The modification factor is used to modify the original fragility parameters. An example uniform hazard spectrum is developed using the available seismic hazard data for the Korean nuclear power plant (NPP) site. This uniform hazard spectrum is used for the modification of fragility parameters.

  • RESRAD-ONSITE v7.2 code is used to assess the radiation effects on a farmer resident located in a hypothetical contaminated site planned for the first nuclear power plant project in Vietnam, namely Ninh Thuan 1, after decommissioning. Derived concentration guideline levels are preliminarily calculated for 17 radionuclides that are assumed to remain on a contaminated surface soil with an initial concentration of 1 pCi/g in the protected area of NPP site. For a reliable estimation, the site-specific conditions regarding the geological, hydrological, climate, and occupancy data gathered from the Feasibility Study Report (FSR) and relevant literatures for the Ninh Thuan 1 NPP site is employed as input parameters. The calculation results indicate that the peak of total exposure dose is estimated to be ca. 0.191 mSv/yr at the time of decommissioning, and then decrease over time. Furthermore, the protected site is assessed to be released at ca. 6.71 years after decommissioning under the regulation on radiation protection in Vietnam. Through this study, a radiation exposure model for residents living near the Ninh Thuan 1 NPP is preliminarily established by using the RESRAD-ONSITE code, which are expected to be useful for future implementation of the Ninh Thuan 1 NPP project in Vietnam.

  • This study examined the time use of married female home-based workers in comparison with married female on-site workers. The data were collected from 165 home-based workers and 292 on-site workers in Busan and Kyungnam province, by a self-administered questionnaire. Frequency distributions, Pearson's correlations, and multiple regression analyses were conducted by SPSS/PC/sup +/. The major findings are summarized as follows: (1) both groups spent more time in physiological activities, household work, and leisure on weekends than on weekdays, while they spent more time in work on weekdays than on weekends; and (2) generally, the age of the youngest child and the home presence of an aged or handicapped relative had effects on the time use of home-based workers. These results imply that home-based workers need to develop some strategies for time management to harmonize their home-based work with household work.

  • To prevent the potential health detriment to the public from radioactive effluents, radiological dose assessments due to the operation of nuclear facilities located at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) site has been performed semiannually in compliance with the Minister of Science and Technology (MOST)'s Notice in Korea. Radiological dose assessment based on the new recommendation of the International Committee on Radiation Protection (ICRP-60) has been conducted since 1998. In this manuscript, a serial activities at KAERI site to meet the regulatory standards for routine releases of radioactive effluents are introduced and discussed including technical approaches. It is clear that each nuclear facility has been operated in compliance with regulatory standards. Furthermore, it is identified that the radiation induced health effects for residents around the site are neglectable.

  • Compaction is becoming a greater concern in crop production and the environment because it can have deleterious effects on growing conditions that are difficult to remediate. Because compaction can vary considerably from point to point within a field, and also from depth to depth within the soil profile, it is important to consider quantification and management of the spatial and vertical variability in soil compaction when developing an overall site-specific crop management plan. In this paper, the importance of soil compaction, techniques for quantification of its variability, and the concept of site-specific tillage are examined. Methods and systems to detect within-field variation in soil strength as a surrogate measure of soil compaction and related soil properties are also compared and discussed. Quantification of variability in soil compaction and site-specific compaction management was motivated recently, and sensors and control systems are still under development. Future study will need to address a number of issues related to understanding and applying the sensor measurements.

  • This study was undertaken to identify optimal head elevation and position in the care of the neurosurgical patient with a cerebral aneurysm. The effects of 0°. 15° and 30° head elevation and three positions (supine, side tying position opposite to the operation site, and side tying position on the same side as the operation site) on ICP was studied in fourteen neurosurgical patients with cerebral aneurysms. The results are as follows : 1. The mean intracranial pressure was significantly lower when the patient's head was elevated at 30° as compared to 0° and 15°. 2. The mean intracranial pressure was significantly lower when the patient was positioned in the supine as compared to side tying position opposite to the operation site and side tying position on the same side as the operation site. The data indicate that head elevation to 30° and the supine position reduce ICP in neurosurgical patients with cerebral aneurysm.

  • The Purpose of this study is to examine the present marine science education programs in Korea and understand how they are organized and how well they are being used. Eventually, being a foothold research prior to the construction of an inclusive marine science education portal site for elementary, middle, and high school students is the objective of this study. Through this study, we can expect three positive effects. First, through classification of marine science education programs, it can be used when dividing the contents and writing textbooks for elementary school students. Second, through the construction of portal site, we can expect to correct the recognition and understanding of marine and it will contribute to the future industry development. Third, we can offer the correct materials for teaching and learning and through learning, understanding on marine will get better.

  • The effects of A-site substitution with alkaline-earth ions (Ca, Sr and Ba) on the perovskite-phase formation and dielectric properties for Pb1-xMx(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 (0.0 x 0.5)-based relaxors were studied. Considerable improvements in the sinterability and the extent fo perovskite formation were observed with increasing the A-site substitution (x) and sintering temperature. The maximum dielectric permittivity appeared at x=0.1 for Sr and Ba substitutiion, while the relative dielectric permittivity was almost invariant in the case of Ca ion substitution. Curie temperature decreased with increasing relative amount of Sr and Ba ions but was almost invariant in case of Ca ion substitution. With increasing the amount of x, the diffuseness parameter ($\delta$) increased but the maximum dielectric constant decreased, demonstrating an enhanced diffuse phase transition (DPT) in the presence of alkaline-earth cations.
