  • This paper presents how effective it is to use many features for improving the speed and accuracy of visual servo systems. Some rank conditions which relate the image Jacobian to the control performance are derived. The focus is to describe that the accuracy of the camera position control in the world coordinate system is increased by utilizing redundant features in this paper. It is also proven that the accuracy is improved by increasing the number of features involved. Effectiveness of the redundant features is evaluated by the smallest singular value of the image Jacobian which is closely related to the accuracy with respect to the world coordinate system. Usefulness of the redundant features is verified by the real time experiments on a Dual-Arm robot manipulator made by Samsung Electronic Co. Ltd..

  • In this paper, finite impulse response (FIR) smoothers are proposed for discrete-time systems. The proposed FIR smoother is designed under the constraints of linearity, unbiasedness, FIR structure, and independence of the initial state information. It is also obtained by directly minimizing the performance criterion with unbiased constraints. The approach to the MVF smoother proposed in this paper is logical and systematic, while existing results have heuristic assumption, such as infinite covariance of the initial state. Additionally, the proposed MVF smoother is based on the general system model that may have the singular system matrix and has both system and measurement noises. Thorough simulation studies, it is shown that the proposed MVF smoother is more robust against modeling uncertainties numerical errors than fixed-lag Kalman smoother which is infinite impulse response (IIR) type estimator.

  • In this paper, a new method to design sliding surfaces using eigenstructure assignment is proposed. Most conventional methods for constructing the surfaces require special form like canonical or regular canonical form of system matrices. But the proposed method can be applied to arbitrary system matrices. Futhermore, the surface matrix, C can be decided for the matrix multiplication, CB to have a designated form. SVD is used to decide desirable eigenvectors explicitly. To verify the proposed algorithm, a sliding mode controller for a multivariable system with matched uncertainty is constructed. The controller is designed to guarantee minimum approach velocity to the sliding surface.

  • A robust stability condition for linear systems with time delay in all variables and parameter uncertainties in all system matrices is derived. Robust performance condition that accounts for robust model-matching of closed loop system and disturbance rejection is also derived. Using the robust performance condition, robust $H^{\infty}$ controller and .mu.(sgructured singular value) controller with two-degree-of-freedom(2DOF) are designed. The controller structure is considered for $H^{\infty}$ controller, while uncertainity structure is considered for .mu. controller. Using the proposed method, $H^{\infty}$ and .mu. controllers for underwater vehicle with time delay and parameter variations are designed. Simulations of a design example with hydrodynamic parameter variations and disturbance are presented to demonstrate the achievement of good robust performance.ce.

  • A suboptimal output feedback controller is designed and applied to a flexible rotor bearing system in order to control the unstable or lilghtly damped vibrations. The reduced order model is the truncated modal equation of the distributed parameter system obtained through the singular perturbation. The instability problem arising from the spillover effects caused by the uncontrolled high frequency modes is prevented through the constrained optimization by incorporating the spillover term into the performance index. The efficiency of the proposed method is demonstrated experimentally with a flexible rotor by using a magnetic bearing.

  • This paper considers a new weighed model reduction method using block diagonal solutions of Lyapunov inequalities. With the input and/or output weighting function, the stability of the reduced order system is guaranteed and an a priori error bound is proposed. to achieve this after finding the solutions of two Lyapunov inequalities and balancing the full order system, we find the reduced order systems using the direct truncation and the singular perturbation approximation. The proposed method is compared with other existing methods using numerical examples.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a new process model for architects and suppliers in AEC(Architectural, Engineering and Construction) industry, which comes from its utilization of a distributed database. Information used by participants of this process is not held in one singular application sewer, but in tile databases of multiple participants. This study addresses the problem of coping with dynamic information changes that architects face when designing with increasingly time-sensitive product information from multiple suppliers. It also describes the new distributed architecture for design representation, and outlines a corresponding process model to address the needs architectural designers during design and procurement phases. The feasibility of the process was tested in a prototype system that combines existing technologies, which allows for an objects transfer from the Web to the CAD application.

  • A new approach for optimal decentralized load-frequency control in a multi-area interconnected power system is presented, which includes the optimal determination of decentralized load-frequency controller, observer for unmeasurable local states and load disturbances, quadratic estimator for tie-line power flow information transmitted at intervals. The optimal design of the decentralized controller is based on a modified application of the singular perturbation theory, and the decentralized Luenberger obeserver uses techniques of state augmentation for exponential disturbance functions and the representation of tie-line power flow states as non-directly-controlled inputs. The approach presented herein is numerically tested through Elgerd's two-area load-frequency system model, and the results demonstrate remarkable advantages over the conventional ones.

  • In this paper there are different methods used to study the voltage stability, such as the P-V curve method. Jacobian method and the voltage collapse proximity indicator(L-index) method. The P-V curve method is to check operating margin from the maximum operating point. The Jacobian method is to check the eigenvalue or the minimum singular value of the load flow Jacobian matrix. If the power system is unstable, one of the eigenvalues, at least, has crossed the imaginary axis. The L-index method is to quantify how to close a particular operating point. This paper describes these methods to select the best location of FACTS and demonstrate the effectiveness of STATCOM of voltage stability on the IEEE 9-bus system.

  • In this paper an attempt is made to understand the voltage stability when the power system networks are represented by the differential-algebraic equations (DAEs) form. The problem is analyzed by interpreting the shape of constraint manifold, based on the singular perturbation model. The global picture or constraint manifold is given to show how the local shape or constraint manifold can be used to guess for the system behavior. The gradient analysis is used systematically to obtain a local shape or the constraint manifold.
