This study aims to testify the effect of self-esteem improvement program for elementary school children from single-parent families on their self-esteem and depression. Methods: The research design used in this study was a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest research design. The participants were divided into two groups, an experimental group(n=11) and a control group(n=13). Data were analysed by using Mann-Whinety U test, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks, Cohen's d with SPSS(PASW)18.0 program. Result: Significant differences were found in scores for self-esteem(z=-2.499, p<.012, ES(d)=0.7) and depression(z=-2.145, p<.032, ES(d)=-0.4) in experimental group. Conclusion: The results indicate that the self-esteem improvement program should be used with elementary school children from single-parent families to help them and to improve their psycho-social adaptation.

This study was to examine the group difference of parental composition (parents, single parent group) in the relationship between parental attitude (supervision, affection, rational explanation) and children's life satisfaction through ego-resilience as a mediating factor. For this, a multi-group analysis was conducted using 310 student data from the 4th panel data of the KCYPS. The results were as follows: First, parents' affectionate parenting attitude on children's life satisfaction was significant in both groups. Second, affectionate and supervisory attitude had effects to improve ego-resilience only in the single-parent group. Third, the affectionate attitude showed a significant positive effect on children's life satisfaction by mediating ego-resilience only in single parent group. This study verified the structural relationship of factors affecting children's life satisfaction and different the pattern of that relationship depending on parental composition. Finally, limitations and implications for future research were presented.
The purpose of this study was to examine the social support network for divorced single mother families. The data were gathered through in-depth interviews with seven divorced single mothers who had at least one school-age child. Qualitative analysis of data showed that divorced single mothers evaluated themselves based on other people's perception. There were mainly three different kinds of self-images, which were “a competent divorced woman,” “a bad child to my parents,” and “a socially weak person.” We also found that there were two factors that influenced the everyday lives of single mothers: all of them .;offered hardships in living as a divorced woman with children, and they also had to deal with the weakened solidarity with family of origin, relatives, and neighbors. Single mothers shared common problems yet their lifestyles and adjustment strategies were diverse. Therefore, diverse social welfare policies for education and counseling for single mothers are urgently needed to support and empower divorced single mothers.
The aims of this study were to investigate relation the effects of parent-children relationship on marriage attitude among unmarried persons and to utilize the findings as source material in assessing changes to marriage and family value. In total 654 unmarried persons above the age of 20 in this study. A survey format was used to asked questions, and collected data were subjected to descriptive and comparative analysis using the SPSS(Version 15.0) program. The results were as follows. Among socioeconomic variables, religion was significantly relate to marriage attitude(p < .001). Parent-child relationship and psychological separation was significantly related to marriage value(p < .05). Specifically, high psychological separation from mother, and relationship with father was related to more positive marriage attitudes. Finally, effective socioeconomic variables in marriage attitude were religion, job, psychological separation from mother and father.

The purpose of this study is to explore the structural relationships among parents' educational involvement and parental efficacy on students' school life satisfaction and school achievement and to determine whether there are any differences depending on family type and school level. Using data from 2,497 families that participated in the 2018 National Survey on Children's Life, t-tests and structural equation modeling were conducted. The results of this study demonstrated that two-parent families reported higher levels of educational involvement than single-parent families and custodial grandparent families. Also, two-parent families raising children in elementary schools showed higher educational involvement than two-parent families raising children attending middle schools. Second, parental efficacy was found to mediate the effects of parents' educational involvement on students' school life satisfaction and school achievement. Third, the path coefficients between parents' educational involvement, students' school life satisfaction, and school achievement showed statistically significant differences depending on family type, with two-parent families having greater involvement than single-parent families and custodial grandparent families. Fourth, multiple group analysis reported a statistically significant difference in the relationship between parents' educational involvement and school achievement as well as parental efficacy and school achievement depending on the school level.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the social support, understanding of the children's problem in the female-headed single parents, and their child rearing methods. To obtain this purpose, in-depth interview was conducted to 8 female-headed single parents from March 3 to April 5, 2003. The contents of interviews were recorded and analyzed by qualitative method. The results were as follows: First, female-headed single parents were stuck for the social support and the relationships with parents-in-law were ruptured, especially. Secondly, female-headed single parents had well known about their children's daily life. Third, in the early stage of female-headed single parents, they had expressed the stresses in their hardship of life to their children, but it decreased whenever they were accustomed to their life.

Korean Quality Innovation Movement has achieved excellent results for the past 10 years as Hard Single PPM, the next step should be Smart Single PPM. In this new version of PPM, the systematic or structural problems found through thorough examination of past activities should be resolved, and this will yield benefits for both parent companies and subcontractors. And Smart Single PPM should be understood and promoted as the core business strategy today. Therefore, in this study, the possible scheme to strengthen large and small companies together based on Smart Single PPM will be suggested.
In this study, we examine differences in the children's medical utilization by family structure with a focus on single-mother and single-father families using data from the Korean Health Panel Survey, years 2008~2012. We also investigate whether the cause of transition into a single-parent household, whether coresidence with children's grandparents, and number of siblings are associated with children's use of ambulatory visits. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, children who grew up in single-father households had fewer ambulatory visits compared to those living with both parents after controlling for children's demographic characteristics and family backgrounds. Second, coresidence with grandparents was not associated with children's medical utilization. However, number of siblings was significantly and negatively correlated with the use of ambulatory visits. Third, children living with a divorced father had fewer medical utilization compared to those living with a widowed father, and coresidence with grandparents was positively associated with children's use of ambulatory visits. Our findings suggest that tailored policy supports would be more fruitful based on characteristics of single-parent households such as gender of parents, and the supports should also pay more attention to health care needs and medical utilization of children.
Fusiform aneurysms on the basilar artery (BA) trunk are rare. The microsurgical management of these aneurysms is difficult because of their deep location, dense collection of vital cranial nerves, and perforating arteries to the brain stem. Endovascular treatment is relatively easier and safer compared with microsurgical treatment. Selective occlusion of the aneurysmal sac with preservation of the parent artery is the endovascular treatment of choice. But, some cases, particularly giant or fusiform aneurysms, are unsuitable for selective sac occlusion. Therefore, endovascular coiling of the aneurysm with parent vessel occlusion is an alternative treatment option. In this situation, it is important to determine whether a patient can tolerate parent vessel occlusion without developing neurological deficits. We report a rare case of fusiform aneurysms in the BA trunk. An 18-year-old female suffered a headache for 2 weeks. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance image revealed a fusiform aneurysm of the lower basilar artery trunk. Digital subtraction angiography revealed a $7.1{\times}11.0$ mm-sized fusiform aneurysm located between vertebrovasilar junction and the anterior inferior cerebellar arteries. We had good clinical result using endovascular coiling of unruptured fusiform aneurysm on the lower BA trunk with parent vessel occlusion after confirming the tolerance of the patient by balloon test occlusion with induced hypotension and accompanied by neurophysiologic monitoring, transcranial Doppler and single photon emission computed tomography. In this study, we discuss the importance of preoperative meticulous studies for avoidance of delayed neurological deficit in the patient with fusiform aneurysm on lower basilar trunk.
Objective: When evaluating individuals with the same parent and no phenotype by pedigree best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP), it is difficult to explain carcass grade difference and select individuals because they have the same value in pedigree BLUP (PBLUP). However, single step GBLUP (ssGBLUP), which can estimate the breeding value suitable for the individual by adding genotype, is more accurate than the existing method. Methods: The breeding value and accuracy were estimated with pedigree BLUP and ssGBLUP using pedigree and genotype of 408 Hanwoo cattle from 16 families with the same parent among siblings produced by fertilized egg transplantation. A total of 14,225 Hanwoo cattle with pedigree, genotype and phenotype were used as the reference population. PBLUP obtained estimated breeding value (EBV) using the pedigree of the test and reference populations, and ssGBLUP obtained genomic EBV (GEBV) after constructing and H-matrix by integrating the pedigree and genotype of the test and reference populations. Results: For all traits, the accuracy of GEBV using ssGBLUP is 0.18 to 0.20 higher than the accuracy of EBV obtained with PBLUP. Comparison of EBV and GEBV of individuals without phenotype, since the value of EBV is estimated based on expected values of alleles passed down from common ancestors. It does not take Mendelian sampling into consideration, so the EBV of all individuals within the same family is estimated to be the same value. However, GEBV makes estimating true kinship coefficient based on different genotypes of individuals possible, so GEBV that corresponds to each individual is estimated rather than a uniform GEBV for each individual. Conclusion: Since Hanwoo cows bred through embryo transfer have a high possibility of having the same parent, if ssGBLUP after adding genotype is used, estimating true kinship coefficient corresponding to each individual becomes possible, allowing for more accurate estimation of breeding value.
