  • There exists a structural limit of 2WS cars that drivers would not like simultaneously to follow the desired path and attenuate moments resulting from disturbances because lateral acceleration and yaw rate are coupled inherently. In order to overcome the limit, the 4WS cars that have rear wheel steering as an additional input have been introduced. But the 4WS cars have disadvantages that much cost is required due to structural alteration, it is difficult to be used to the driving circumstances and tire performances are not efficient in nonlinear or large lateral acceleration ranges. Therefore, it is proposed that, in this paper, a robust controller is easy to apply to 2WS cars by using direct yaw moment, decouples lateral acceleration from yaw motion and is robust against disturbances and uncertainties of system parameters, and thus the proposed control method has the advantages of 4WS cars which can be achieved in 2WS cars.

  • A formal theory to explain the Stark effect in molecular exciton states is developed using the second-quantization formalism. In this theory not only the Stark effect but also the Davydov effect are explicitly taken into consideration since the observed spectral splitting in the UV spectra for molecular crystals with two or more molecules per unit cell may be the result of combination of the above two effects. Especially for molecular crystals containing two molecules in a unit cell the splitting is shown to be hyperbolically dependent upon the strength of an externally applied, uniform electric field, from which informations regarding the excited state dipole moments of a single molecule may be obtained.

  • Scattering of TE waves by a periodic conducting surface with dielectric cover is considered. A method for the aalysis of scattering from periodic structures based on the numerical solution of the integral equations is further developed. Using periodicity (Floquet's theorem), the range of the integral equations is reduced to a single period where the kernels are the Green's functions for periodic arrays. The numerical solution of the intergral equations is obtained using the method of moments. From numerical results for the reflected power the effects of surface profile shape, period-to-depth ratio, and cover permittivity on the scattering behaviors are examined.

  • In order to analyze the rolling motion of a ship in random beam waves we use the partial stochastic linearization method. The quadratic damping and the nonlinear restoring moments given by the odd polynomials up to the 11th order are added to a single degree of freedom linear equation of roll motion. The irregular excitation moment is assumed to be the Gaussian white noise. The statistical characteristics of the response by the partial stochastic linearization method is compared with results by the equivalent linearization method and Monte Carlo simulation. It is fecund that the partial stochastic linearization method is not necessarily superior to the equivalent linearization method.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the mode characteristics of an annular ring microstrip patch antenna for circular polarization with attachment mode using method of moments in the spectral domain. For a probe excitation, the input impedance are obtained by using the single mode approximation for both the $TM_{11}$ and $TM_{12}$ modes and compared with those by Vector Hankel Transform. While the $TM_{11}$ mode has a high Q, it is a poor radiating mode; the $TM_{12}$ mode is more suitable for antenna applications. It is also shown that the bandwidth of the $TM_{12}$ mode is wider than that of the $TM_{11}$ mode in terms of axial ratio for circular polarizatio

  • In this paper we consider open queueing system with a Poisson arrival process which have a finite upper bound on the arrival rate for which the system is stable. Interpolation approximations for quantities of interest, such as moments of the sojourn time distribution, have previously been developed for such systems, utilizing exact light and heavy traffic limits. These limits cannot always be easily computed for complex systems. Thus we consider an interpolation approximation where all of the relevant information is estimated via simulation. We show that all the relevant information can in fact be simultaneously estimated in a single regenerative simulation at any arrival rate. In addition to light and heavy traffic limits, both the quantity of interest and its derivative (with respect to the arrival rate) are estimated at the arrival rate of the simulation. All of the estimates are then combined, using a least squares procedure, to provide an interpolation approximation.

  • This paper presents a study on design for the k-junction of a feeder waveguide with an inductive wall using FDTD method. The feed structure consists of a single waveguide plated on the same layer as radiating waveguide and is characterized by the unit divider, railed a $\pi$-Junction. This $\pi$-Junction with an inductive wall splits part of the power into two branch waveguide through one coupling window, and can excite densely arrayed waveguide at equal phase and amplitude. The power dividing characteristics of a $\pi$ -Junction obtained by FDTD method are compared with one of Galerkin's method of moments. The scattering matrices a $\pi$ -junction calculated by FDTD method are realized.

  • A new analytical solution based on a third order shear deformation theory for the problem of static analysis of cross-ply doubly-curved shells is presented. The boundary-discontinuous generalized double Fourier series method is used to solve highly coupled linear partial differential equations with the mixed type simply supported boundary conditions prescribed on the edges. The complementary boundary constraints are introduced through boundary discontinuities generated by the selected boundary conditions for the derivation of the complementary solution. The numerical accuracy of the solution is compared by studying the comparisons of deflections, stresses and moments of symmetric and anti-symmetric laminated shells with finite element results using commercially available software under uniformly distributed load. Results are in good agreement with finite element counterparts. Additional results of the symmetric and anti-symmetric laminated and sandwich shells under single point load at the center and pressure load, are presented to provide data for the unsolved boundary conditions, benchmark comparisons and verifications.

  • Recent microwave IC's reach to the extent of high operating frequencies at which bonding wires limit their performance as dominant parasitic components. Double bonding wires separated by an internal angle have been firstly characterized using the Method of Moments with the incorporation of the ohmic resistance calculated by the phenomenological loss equivalence method. For a 30$^{\circ}$ internal angle, the calculated total reactance is 45% less than that of a single bonding wire due to the negative mutual coupling effect. The radiation effect has been observed decreasing the mutual inductance, whereas for parallel bonding wires it greatly increases the mutual inductance. This calculation results can be widely used for designing and packaging of high frequency and high density MMIC's and OEIC's.

  • For the reduction of parasitic inductance and matching of bonding wire in the package of microwave devices, we propose multiple bonding wires buried in a dielectric material of FR-4 composite. This structure is analyzed using the method of moments (MoM) and compared with the common bondwires and ribbon interconnections. The FR-4 composite is modelled by the cole-cole model which can consider the loss and the variation of the permittivity in a frequency. At 20 GHz, the parasitic reactance is reduced by 90%, 80%, 60% compared to those of a single bonding wire in air, double bonding wires in air and ribbon interconnection in air, respectively. Also, the new bondwire shows very good matching of 60.ohm characteristic impedance and has 15dB, 10dB, 5dB improvement of the return loss and 2.5dB, 0.7dB, 0.2dB improvement of the insertion loss compared to the common interconnections. This technique can minimize the parasitic effect of bondwires in microwave device packaging.
