  • GUI program for analyzing directional spectrum waves is introduced in this paper Basically, MLM (Maximum Likelihood Method) was used for this program which was additionally consisted of performing spectral and time domain analysis for two dimensional irregular waves. Moreover, the directionality of directional spectrum waves generated by single summation and double summation method was investigated based on MLM. The directionality from each summation method has good agreement compared with that of target wave spreading function in the case of single wide directional spectrum waves. In addition to this, the resolution of directionality in double summation method was investigated as introducing coherence function between each wave component

  • Background: Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) has been used widely, but its effects are controversial. This is probably due to the varying intensity and type of pain. We designed a study to assess the effects of the TENS on the RIII nociceptive flexion reflex as the resting pain level and the temporal summation as a repeated, movement related pain in 7 normal volunteer subjects. Methods: High frequency (80 Hz), non-noxious TENS was applied over the left popliteal fossa for 20 minutes. Ipsilateral RIII reflexes induced by single electrical stimulus and temporal summation of pain responses to repeated stimuli (five stimuli at 2 Hz) were recorded before, during (just before stopping), and subsequently at 20 minutes after TENS. Results: R (III) nociceptive flexion reflex activity during and after TENS was more significantly decreased than before treatment. However, the temporal summation threshold was not changed. Conclusions: We conclude that high frequency, non-noxious TENS could be effective on resting pain relief in the same segment but not on the movement related pain.

  • For each cable component in a cable dome structure, pre-tension is needed for stability of whole the structure. The summation of these pre-tension at each joint should be zero to achieve the self equilibrium structure. The first step in cable dome structure analysis is to find the ratio of pre-tension in each member which can produce a stable and structure on self-equilibrium. In this paper, a new method based on the basic principle of closed force polygon for equilibrium system is proposed for the determination of self-equilibrium mode of cable dome structure. A single layer cable dome and two multi layer type domes have been analyzed. The ratios of cable members are determined by the presented method, and check the validation of the results by numerical calculation.

  • In industrial facilities sites, the conventional method determining the earthquake magnitude (M) using earthquake ground-motion records is generally not applicable due to the poor quality of data. Therefore, a new methodology is proposed for determining the earthquake magnitude in real-time based on the amplitude measures of the ground-motion acceleration mostly from S-wave packets with the higher signal-to-ratios, given the Vs30 of the site. The amplitude measures include the bracketed cumulative parameters and peak ground acceleration (As). The cumulative parameter is either CAV (Cumulative Absolute Velocity) with 100 SPS (sampling per second) or BSPGA (Bracketed Summation of the PGAs) with 1 SPS. The arithmetic equations to determine the earthquake magnitude are derived from the CAV(BSPGA)-As-M relations. For the application to broad ranges of earthquake magnitude and distance, the multiple relations of CAV(BSPGA)-As-M are derived based on worldwide earthquake records and successfully used to determine the earthquake magnitude with a standard deviation of ${\pm}0.6M$.

  • Nowadays much efforts for evaluating the productivity of port physical distribution system to meet the rapid change of the port and shipping circumstances has been made continuously all over the world. The major part of these efforts is the improvement of the productivity of cargo handling system. The cargo equipment system as infrastructure in the cargo handling system is organized well in some degrees, but the management system of manpower as upper structure is still remained in an insufficient degree. There is little study, so far, on a systematic research for the management of port labor gang, and even those were mainly depended on rule of thumb. The object of this study is to introduce the method of optimal allocation and assignment for the labor gang in single ship, which was suggested as a first stage in dealing with them generally. The problem of optimal allocation and assignment of the labor gang can be (I) formalized with multi-stage allocation and assignment of the labor gang can be. (II) dealt with two stages in form of hierarchic structure and moreover, (III) The optimal size of labor gang was obtained through dynamic programming from the point of minimizing the summation of labor gang in every stage, (IV) For the problem of optimal assignment, the optimal policy was determined at the point of minimizing the summation of movement between hatches.

  • Generating functions play an important role in the investigation of various useful properties of the sequences which they generate. Exton [13] presented a very general double generating relation involving products of two Laguerre polynomials. Motivated essentially by Exton's derivation [13], the authors aim to show how one can obtain nineteen new generating relations associated with products of two Laguerre polynomials in the form of a single result. We also consider some interesting and potentially useful special cases of our main findings.

  • The electrical neuronal model described in this paper simulates the most important functional properties of nerve cells. An model circuit incorporating many of the digital and analog properties of neurons is described. Having such properties as variable threshold level, action potential, summation, all-or-none output, absolute and relative refract oriness, and ingibition, it exhibits a considerable amount of functional equivalence to biological structures. This electrical neuronal model has utility not only for studying single unit properties but also for investigating group interactions. Such studies may be relevent to elucidation of neuronal network behavior.

  • This paper describes the mechanism of information processing in the nervous system through neuron pool model which is consisted of six single neural models. In the neuron pool model, summation characteristic of stimulus satisfies those of real nervous system and output impulse rate increases linearly to the input stimulus. Occlusion phenomena of the neuron pool model is approached to those of real nervous system and also if the threshold potential within sutlirninal fringe is increased, facilitation phenomena appreared. Therefore, the results of this study suggest that we can construct large neuron pool with many single neural models and verify the mechanism of information processing in the wide part of nervous system.

  • This paper deals with characteristic analysis method using d-q axis equivalent circuit considering iron loss in a single-phase line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor. The iron loss resistance to account for the iron loss is included in the equivalent circuit to improve the modeling accuracy. Furthermore, for the improved calculation of the iron loss, the iron loss is calculated from the magnetic flux density by 2-dimensional finite element method. The result is represented as the iron loss resistance and connected in parallel with the total induced voltage. Therefore, the currents can be expressed as the summation the output current with the current corresponding to the iron loss. Finally, the steady state characteristic analysis results are compared with the experimental results to verify this approach.

  • Recently, there have been many studies in medicine related to genetic analysis. Many genetic studies have been performed to find genes associated with complex diseases. To find out how genes are related to disease, we need to understand not only the simple relationship of genotypes but also the way they are related to phenotype. Multi-block data, which is a summation form of variable sets, is used for enhancing the analysis of the relationships of different blocks. By identifying relationships through a multi-block data form, we can understand the association between the blocks in comprehending the correlation between them. Several statistical analysis methods have been developed to understand the relationship between multi-block data. In this paper, we will use generalized canonical correlation methodology to analyze multi-block data from the Korean Association Resource project, which has a combination of single nucleotide polymorphism blocks, phenotype blocks, and disease blocks.
