A power-plant simulation tool has been developed for training the plant operators and testing a plant control system. The simulation tool is composed of a graphic editor, a component model builder and a system simulation solver. Such new programing techniques as object-oriented modeling and GUI(Graphical User Interface) are employed in developing the simulation tool. The graphic editor is based on the OpenGL library for effective implementation of GUI while the component model builder is based on object-oriented programming for efficient generalization of component models. The developed tool has been verified through the simulation of a real power plant.
Recently, the shock resistance and dynamic characteristics of hard disk drives have become more important due to their highly increased storage density and miniaturization. In this study, we have developed an ANSYS/Mechanical/LS-DYNA based HDD vibration/shock simulation tool for design engineers. This simulation tool using ANSYS APDL can produce a parametric finite element modeling of HDD automatically and has GUI-based applications using the script program language Tcl/Tk. In the present tool, we adopt the reliable methodology of vibration/shock simulation, which is experimentally verified. It is expected that this simulation tool can make the repetitive computational efforts for the shock-proof design of HDD drastically reduced.

Digital Manufacturing-based production could be very effective in shipbuilding in order to save costs and time, to increase safety for workers, and to prevent bottleneck processes in advance. Digital shipbuilding system, a simulation-based production tool, is being developed to achieve such aspects in Korea. To simulate material flow in a subassembly line at a shipyard, the product, process and resources was modeled for the subassembly process which consisted of several sub-processes such as tack welding, piece alignment, tack welding, and robot welding processes. The analysis and modeling were carried out by using the UML(Unified Modeling Language), an object-oriented modeling method as well as IDEF(Integration DEFinition), a functional modeling tool. Initially, the characteristics of the shop resources were analyzed using the shipyard data, and the layout of the subassembly line was designed with the resources. The production process modeling of the subassembly lines was performed using the discrete event simulation method. Using the constructed resource and process model, the productivity and efficiency of the line were investigated. The number of workers and the variations In the resource performance such as that of a new welding robot were examined to simulate the changes in productivity. The bottleneck process floated according to the performance of the new resources. The proposed model was viewed three-dimensionally in a digital environment so that interferences among objects and space allocations for the resources could be easily investigated

Grid provides a platform for the efficient execution of large-scale computing in science and engineering. In this environment, resource management and task scheduling are complex undertaking. We designed and implemented a web-based scheduling toolkit(GridTool), which can model a system and simulate scheduling scheme in Grid computing. The GridTool used GridSim, a toolkit in java-environment, as a tool for simulation. The GridTool is able to perform resource modeling, task modeling, algorithm compiling, simulation, and performance evaluation efficiently in web environment. The GridTool can be applied as a platform for Grid research and can be used to analyze the efficiency of scheduling algorithm.
To manage a cluster of distributed server systems, a number of management aspects should be considered in terms of configuration management, fault management, performance management, and user management. System performance monitoring and reporting take an important role for performance and fault management. In this paper, we present distributed system architecture modeling of a performance monitoring and reporting tool. Modeling architecture of four subsystems are introduced: node agent, data collection, performance management & report, and DB schema. The performance-related information collected from distributed servers are categorized into performance counters, event data for system status changes, service quality, and system configuration data. In order to analyze those performance information, we use a number of ways to evaluate data corelation. By using some results from a real site of a company and from simulation of artificial workload, we show the example of performance collection and analysis. Since our report tool detects system fault or node component failure and analyzes performances through resource usage and service quality, we are able to provide information for server load balancing, in short term view, and the cause of system faults and decision for system scale-out and scale-up, in long term view.

In order to manage a cluster system that consists of a number servers, management aspects such as configuration management, fault management, performance management, and user management should be considered. Especially, it is necessary to monitor performances for performance and fault management. An agent in each server collects performance counters, status changes, and events occurred in normal or abnormal states. The data collected are delivered to a collector sorter and processed in a report tool for performance analysts and management decision in the cluster system point of view, by detecting fault state and tracing out resource usage, service response, and response, and states until failed. In this paper we propose an architecture modeling of a performance report tool for proactive cluster system management. Some results on a cluster system are presented.
As the level of maunfacturing system automation increases, the issues of modeling and simulation of AMS(Automated Manufacturing System) are becoming more important. Proposed in this paper is the JR-Net(Job Resource relation-Net) modeling framework which naturally mimics the process of designing an AMS by FA(Factory Automation) engineers. Its main purpose is to provide a modeling tool which facilitate modeling work of AMS for FA engineers unfamiliar with simulation modeling. The proposed modeling scheme is based on the extensive observation that typical AMSs are built from the set of 'standard' components(or catalog items). As an application of the proposed model, two real examples of FMS('G7'FMS model plant, RPI FMS) are modeled by JR-Net, and in case of FMS model plant, a simulation program development procedure using JR-Net modeling results is explained. Finally, simulation result of FMS model plant is analyzed.

In this paper, we proposed a modeling method of continuous combat simulation by using VENSIM. VENSIM is a CASE tool for developing continuous simulation. It provides a simple and flexible way of building simulation models from causal loop or influence diagram. As a case model, we developed "a prototype model of battle"incorporating infantry, artillery, air defense weapon, aircraft, and guerrilla engagement.ngagement.

A power plant simulation tool ('PowerSim') has been developed with 10 years experience from the development of a plant simulator for efficient modeling of a power plant. PowerSim is the first developed tool in Korea for plant simulation with various plant component models, instructor station function and the Graphic Model Builder (GMB). PowerSim is composed of a graphic editor using general purpose design software, a netlist converter, component models, the scheduler, Instructor Station and an executive. The graphic editor generates a netlist that shows the connection status of the various plant components from the Simdiagram, which is drawn by Icon Drag method supported by GUI environment of the PowerSim. Netlist Converter normalizes the connection status of the components. Scheduler makes scheduling for the execution of the device models according to the netlist. Therefore, the user makes Simdiagram based on the plant Pipe and Instrument Drawing (P&ID) and inputs the plant data for automatic simulating execution. This paper introduces Graphic Model Builder (GMB), instructor station, executive and the detailed introduction of thermal-hydraulic modeling. This paper will also introduce basic ideas on how the simulation Diagram, based on netlist generated from general purpose design software, is made and how the system is organized. The developed tool has been verified through the simulation of a real power plant.

It is rather difficult to improve flight control computer(FLCC) hardware(H/W) development schedule due to lack of commercial off-the-self(COTS) tools or target specific tools. Thus, it is suggested to develop an enhanced process utilizing modeling, simulation and virtual reality tools. This paper presents H/W design process enhancement tool(PET) for FLCC design requirements such as FLCC input/output(I/O) signal flow, I/O fault detection, failure management algorithm, circuit logic, PCB assembly configuration and installation utilizing simulation and visualization in virtual space. New tool will provide simulation capability of various FLCC design configuration including shop replaceable unit(SRU) level assembly/dis-assembly utilizing open flight format 3-D modeling data.
