Conventional SMB process is operated using 4-zone having several chromatography columns in each zone. Unlike batch chromatography, SMB process can continuously separate binary materials. Both high productivity and purity are obtainable by using SMB process. In this study, the simulation on Thermal Simulated Moving Bed Concentrator (TSMBC) which is a SMB process with thermal swing adsorption was carried out. The advantage of TSMBC is that adsorption isotherm can be easily controlled by thermal wave or direct heating. Recovery of pure water and concentration of phenol was studied in simulation. To verify environmental-friendly potential of TSMBC, DOWEX $1{\times}4$ was chosen as an adsorbent and phenol was selected as a target material. When 3 columns were used in this study, concentration of phenol is 2.29, 2.28 and 1.31 times higher than injected sample. However, a contamination of phenol in solvent port was found, probably due to the restriction of adsorption isotherm of phenol on DOWEX $1{\times}4$.
Oxygen behaviors in CZ-silicon wafer, grown by the Lucky Advanced Materials Inc. that is a pioneer of silicon material industries in Korea, were investigated to simulate effects on the device performance of oxygen, neglecting the effect of other impurity content, defects and thermal history. Silicon wafers were annealed through simulated 16K SRAM thermal cycle. As initial oxygen concentration increased up to 16.7ppma the amount of oxygen precipitation increased up to 10.6ppma and the bulk microdefect density increased up to $10.3{\times}10^3/mm^2$, but the depth of the denuded zone decreased to $5.0{\mu}m$
Two types of regularization method (singular system and HMP approaches) for generating depth-concentration profiles from angle-resolved XPS data were evaluated. Both approaches showed qualitatively similar results although they employed different numerical algorithms. The application of the regularization method to simulated data demonhstrates its excellent utility for the complex depth profile system . It includes the stable restoration of depth-concentration profiles from the data with considerable random error and the self choice of smoothing parameter that is imperative for the successful application of the regularization method. The self choice of smoothing parameter is based on generalized cross-validation method which lets the data themselves choose the optimal value of the parameter.

Trichloroethylene, which is one of the representative DNAPL, has been found in underground water sources as a result of the manufactural use, and disposal of the chemical. In this research, in situ air sparging method was chosen to reduce the TCE concentration from the source zone. The concentration reduction in the source zone resulting from air sparging is simulated using the modified STOMP Water-Air operational mode in a two dimensional axisymmetric domain and bench scale test is conducted to analyze the performance of air sparging. The results of laboratory tests are compared with numerical simulations.
Simulated moving bed(SMB) chromatography was simulated for separating loxoprofen racemates. Aspen chromatography simulator was utilized with Henry's constants of loxoprofen racemates which were obtained by batch chromatography experiments. Raffinate stream concentrations as well as purities were calculated with various $m_2$ and $m_3$ values in the triangle diagram obtained from two Henry's constants 7.9 and 10.1. Purity values are high under the conditions that the $m_2-m^3$ coordinates are near the left central region in the diagram and feed flow rates are lower. Concentration profiles of raffinate and extract streams along SMB columns explain the purity change in the case of increasing the column numbers installed at SMB.
This experiment was performed with the purpose of finding out the effect of simulated acid rain at various pH levels on the morphology and enzyme of Perilla frutescens var. japonica hara. The pH levels of simulated acid rain ranged from pH 2.0 to pH 6.0. The experiment showed the anion concentrations in the order of $SO_4^{2-}$, Cl^-$, $NO_3^-$, and $F^-$, $SO_4^{-2}$ was found out to be the main factor which contributed to the rainwater acidification. A general decrease of growth in Perilla frutescens var. japonica hara growth was shown with the decreas of pH concentration. As acidity increases a definite reduction in the rates of germination, heigth of plant, malate dehydrogenase, and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase was ovserved, but the density of spots on the leaf apex was increased.

In this study, we quantitatively analyze the effect of ocean emission sources on the simulated O3 concentrations in South Korea using the community multi-scale air quality (CMAQ) model. To analyze changes in O3 concentrations by ocean emissions, two different CMAQ simulations considering ocean emissions (OE case) and without considering ocean emissions (NE case) were conducted during the Korea-United States air quality (KORUS-AQ) campaign period (May-June 2016). The changes in the simulated O3 concentrations due to the effect of ocean emissions (OE case-NE case) appeared mostly in the ocean areas (+1.201 ppbv). The effect of ocean emissions was positive during the daytime (+1.813 ppbv), but negative during the nighttime (-0.612 ppbv). Analysis using the integrated process rate (IPR) confirmed that the increase or decrease in O3 concentration by ocean emissions was mainly due to chemical processes. Further analysis using the integrated reaction rate (IRR) showed that the daytime increase in O3 concentration was mainly attributable to the increased O3 production via O + O2 + M → O3 + M reaction as photolysis of NO2 increased due to the added ocean emissions. The nighttime decrease in O3 concentration was mainly due to the increased O3 titration by NO (NO + O3 → O2 + NO2) due to the increased NO emission. These results indicate that the changes in the concentration O3 in the sea area by the effect of ocean emissions are mainly due to increased NOx emissions. However, there could be a number of uncertainties in ocean emissions data used in this study, thus continuous comparative research using the most updated data will need to be carried out in the future.
We coupled a CFD model to the WRF-Chem model (WRF-CFD model) and investigated the characteristics of flows and carbon monoxide (CO) distributions in a building-congested district. We validated the simulated results against the measured wind speeds, wind directions, and CO concentrations. The WRF-Chem model simulated the winds from southwesterly to southeasterly, overestimating the measured wind speeds. The statistical validation showed that the WRF-CFD model simulated the measured wind speeds more realistically than the WRF-Chem model. The WRF-Chem model significantly underestimated the measured CO concentrations, and the WRF-CFD model improved the CO concentration prediction. Based on the statistical validation results, the WRF-CFD model improved the performance in predicting the CO concentrations by taking complicatedly distributed buildings and mobiles sources of CO into account. At 04 KST on May 22, there was a downdraft around the AQMS, and airflow with a relatively low CO concentration was advected from the upper layer. Resultantly, the CO concentration was lower at the AQMS than the surrounding area. At 15 KST on May 22, there was an updraft around the AQMS. This resulted in a slightly higher CO concentration than the surroundings. The WRF-CFD model transported CO emitted from the mobile sources to the AQMS measurement altitude, well reproducing the measured CO concentration. At 18 KST on May 22, the WRF-CFD model simulated high CO concentrations because of high CO emission, broad updraft area, and an increase in turbulent diffusion cause by wind-shear increase near the ground.

In this paper, we simulated a new apartment building by using radon emission test values from various building materials used as interior finishing materials. The simulations evaluated the radon concentration in the room according to the radon emissions and the ventilations for each type of finishing material (gypsum board, stone, tile and concrete). Overall concrete finish simulation case showed the highest concentration than the case using other materials due to the effect of wall area at the center of each room and the mean radon concentration at 1.5 m above the floor was slightly lower than the mean value at each center. In the case of the porch, pantry and bathroom, the radon concentration was high even when the same materials were used as in the other rooms.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a primary air pollutant as an indicator of air quality released from motor vehicle combustion. A comparative study of the distributions of CO concentration with no heat source in two tunnel models open and closed at both end sides is simulated with a commercial CFD code. The tunnel models are used to investigate the CO concentration distributions at three Reynolds numbers, which are computed by the inlet velocities of 0.3, 0.6 and 1.0 m/s. For a better tunnel design, the CFD predictive approaches are available in qualitatively studying the distributions of CO concentration. In the case of the tunnel open at both end sides in sixty seconds, the total CO concentrations are approximately twenty eight percent higher than those in the closed case.
