  • This work presents the robust controller and the LQG/LTR controller for the stewart platform. To simplify the dynamics we combine equation of the stewart platform and linearized one of hydraulic actuators not considered condensability of the fluid. Through the connection of two dynamic equations we can omit force feedback process of actuators and design controllers for the whole system. We applied two controllers on the stewart platform and show the adequacy controllers through the result of simulation and experiment.

  • For the designing propulsion shafting of ship, shaft diameters are usually calculated according to the Society's rules and other scantlings such as a shaft length, coupling and taper parts, etc., are decided according to calculated diameters. And then, the torsional vibration, the lateral vibration and shaft alignment should be reviewed to check whether the resonance points of torsional or lateral vibration appear within the normal operating speed range and the shaft alignment is reasonable. If the results of calculations are unsatisfactory, this process should be repeated until the final condition is determined and the process of this work takes much time to carry out. To simplify the above tedious processes, authors have developed a computer program to fulfill the above design processes at once. This program takes aim at reducing the manual calculating work associated with the propulsion shafting of ship. To confirm the availability of developed computer program, several propulsion shaftings which are driven by diesel engines, have been analysed. The results calculated by authors developed computer program show comparatively good agreements with those of the actual propulsion shafting.

  • For the purpose of enhancing the performance of the shunt active power filter (APF), this paper presents a novel Fast Weighted Compound Control (FWCC) strategy based on the synchronous frame. In this control strategy, the proposed new repetitive controller can work faster and more stably by reducing the internal model cycle and introducing a damping coefficient. In addition, the harmonic detector can be removed to simplify the structure of the APF owing to the improvements. Furthermore, a proportional-integral (PI) controller is added to work in parallel with the repetitive controller by using a weighted ratio. Then, a convergence speed analysis and design algorithm are given in detail. Simulation and experimental results show that the harmonic distortion is reduced from 2.91% to 1.89%. In addition, the content for each of the characteristic harmonic orders has decreased by more than three times.

  • With the development of technology, the procedures for making systems are altered. Jobs that were initially difficult with technology have become easier. Likewise with work as a developer. In this era, it takes work that can be done quickly, precisely, and accurately. Inspired by the Copernicus' theory that the sun is the center of the solar system, this research aims to create a plugin that is integrated with the Unity game engine so that it can create dungeons quickly and dynamically using the orbital dungeon generation method. In general, games that have several dungeons are role playing games genre with the roguelike subgenre, where games of this type are widely adopted by well-known games. This method is expected to be employed by developers, especially game developers, to simplify and speed up the creation of games using dungeons, because the complexity of the system that is made can be adjusted according to needs.

  • We present a new technique, called VED (very effective debugging), for detecting and correcting division by zero errors for all types of .NET application. We use applications written in C# because C# applications are distributed through the internet and its executable format is used extensively. A tool called Immunity Debugger is used to reverse engineer executable code to get binaries of source code. With this technique, we demonstrate integer division by zero errors, the location of the error causing assembly language code, as well as error recovery done according to user preference. This technique can be extended to work for other programming languages in addition to C#. VED can work on different platforms such as Linux. This technique is simple to implement and economical because all the software used here are open source. Our aims are to simplify the maintenance process and to reduce the cost of the software development life cycle.

  • Purpose: Introducing CR (Computed Radiography) system created a process of printing therapy irradiation images and converting the degree of enlargement. This is to increase job efficiency and contribute to work improvement using a computerized method with home grown software to simplify this process, work efficiency. Materials and Methods: Microsoft EXCEL (ver. 2007) and VISUAL BASIC (ver. 6.0) have been used to make the software. A window for each shield block was designed to enter patients' treatment information. Distances on the digital images were measured, the measured data were entered to the Excel program to calculate the degree of enlargement, and printouts were produced to manufacture shield blocks. Results: By computerizing the existing method with this program, the degree of enlargement can easily be calculated and patients' treatment information can be entered into the printouts by using macro function. As a result, errors in calculation which may occur during the process of production or errors that the treatment information may be delivered wrongly can be reduced. In addition, with the simplification of the conversion process of the degree of enlargement, no copy machine was needed, which resulted in the reduction of use of paper. Conclusion: Works have been improved by computerizing the process of block production and applying it to practice which would simplify the existing method. This software can apply to and improve the actual conditions of each hospital in various ways using various features of EXCEL and VISUAL BASIC which has already been proven and used widely.

  • This study tries to analyze the influence of IIT's educational system on the Jong Soung Kimm's Architecture. Architect Kimm was the first student in Korea who gained admission to the IIT and was directly learned from Mies van der Rohe. At IIT, he completed a university course from 1956 to 1961, and finished a degree of master under the direction of Professor Myron Goldsmith in 1964. After the graduation, he entered Mies's office and became the professeur of IIT from 1966 to 1978. In consideration with these facts, it is no exaggeration to say that Kimm's architecture was formed by the IIT's educational system and Mies's architectural principles. According to the synopsis of the 5-year curriculum 1944-45, the object of architectural work in IIT is the clarification of : 1)the structure as an architectural factor, its possibilities and limitations 2) space as an architectural problem 3) proportion as a means of architectural expression 4) the expression value of materials 5) the application of these principles by means of free creative work. Architect Kimm's works designed in Korea reflect well these objectives. But Kimm also knew well the problems of IIT's educational system. After the retirement of Mies, IIT's educational system had the tendency to overstress the technology of structure and simplify the complexity of Miesian architectural principles. In opposition to this tendency, architect Kimm continued to keep the spacial and formal subtlety which possess the Mies' original architecture. This shows very well the future direction of Kimm's architectural activities.

  • The "3+3 Process" for safety critical software for nuclear power plants' I&C (Instrumentation and Control system) has been developed in this work. The main idea of the "3+3 Process" is both to simplify the software development and safety analysis in three steps to fulfill the requirements of a software safety plan [1]. The "3-Step" software development process consists of formal modeling and simulation, automated code generation and coverage analysis between the model and the generated source codes. The "3-Step" safety analysis consists of HAZOP (hazard and operability analysis), FTA (fault tree analysis), and DV (design validation). Put together, these steps are called the "3+3 Process". This scheme of development and safety analysis minimizes the V&V work while increasing the safety and reliability of the software product. For assessment of this process, validation has been done through prototyping of the SDS (safety shut-down system) #1 for PHWR (Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor).

  • In this work, we propose new method of sigma filtering for efficient filtering and preserving edge regions in DCT Domain. In block-based image compression technique, the image is first divided into non-overlapping $8{\times}8$ blocks. Then, the two-dimensional DCT is computed for each $8{\times}8$ block. Once the DCT coefficients are obtained, they are quantized using a specific quantization table. Quantization of the DCT coefficients is a lossy process, and in this step, noise is added. In this work, we combine IDCT matrix and filter matrix to a new matrix to simplify filtering process to remove noise after IDCT in spatial domain, for each $8{\times}8$ DCT coefficient block, we determine whether this block is edge or homogeneous region. If this block is edge region, we divide this $8{\times}8$ block into four $4{\times}4$ sub-blocks, and do filtering process for sub-blocks which is homogeneous region. By this process, we can remove blocking artifacts efficiently preserving edge regions at the same time.
