In this paper, the thermodynamic performance of OTEC cycle was examined. Computer simulation programs were developed for simple Rankine cycle, regenerative Rankine cycle, Kalina cycle, open cycle and hybrid cycle. For the simple Rankine cycle, the results show that newly developed fluids such as R410A and R32 that do not cause stratospheric ozone layer depletion perform as well as R22 and ammonia. Also, simple Rankine cycle OTEC power plant can practically generate electricity when the difference in warm and cold sea water inlet temperatures are greater than $14^{\circ}C$. The regenerative Rankine cycle showed a 1.5 to 2% increase in energy efficiency compared to the simple Rankine cycle while the Kalina cycle employing ammonia/water mixture showed a 2-to-3% increase in energy efficiency, and the overall cycle efficiencies of hybrid cycle and open cycle were 3.35% and 4.86%, respectively.
Thermodynamic performance of a simple Rankine cycle, regenerative Rankine cycle, and Kalina cycle for Ocean thermal Energy Conversion(OTEC) is evaluated under the same condition with various working fluids. The evaporator and condenser are modeled by a UA and LMTD method while the turbine and pump are modeled by considering isentropic efficiencies. As for the working fluids, R22, R134a, R32, propylene, ammonia are used for the Rankine cycles while ammonia/water and R32/R134a mixtures are used for Kalina cycle. Calculated results show that newly developed fluids such non-ozone depleting refrigerants as R134a and R32 perform as well as R22 and ammonia. The regenerative Rankine cycle showed a 1.2 to 2.8% increase in energy efficiency as compared to the simple Rankine cycle while the Kalina cycle with ammonia/water mixture showed a 1.8% increase in energy efficiency. The efficiency of the Kalina cycle with R32/R134a mixtures is the same as that of a simple Rankine cycle using R22. Therefore, the regenerative Rankine cycle turns out to be best choice for OTEC applications.
FPSO (Floating Production Strorage and Offloading) method for LNG industry is efficient and facile compared to onshore NG (Natural Gas) treatment facility. Five simple natural gas liquefaction cycles for FPSO are presented and simulated in this paper. SMR (Single Mixed Refrigerant) cycle, SNE (Single Nitrogen Expander) cycle, DNE (Double Nitrogen Expander) cycle, PNE (Precooled Nitrogen Expander) cycle, and PDNE (Precooled Double Nitrogen Expander) cycle are compared. Simple analysis results in this paper show that precooling process and adding an expander in the liquefaction cycle is an effective way to increase liquefaction efficiency.
The computation scheme of simulating gas turbine transient behavior was developed. The basic principles of this scheme and main input data required are described. Calculation results are presented in terms of whole operating regime of the cycle. The influence of main initial parameters such as starting engine power, moment of inertia of the rotor, fuel supplying schedule etc. on performance characteristics of has turbine during transient operation is studied In addition, bleeding air influence on transient behavior was also considered For validation of the developed code, comparison of present calculation with that of measurement data of the experimental data for the range of operating period studied.

In this study, an indicator and assessment system for evaluating the monthly hydrological cycle was prepared using simple factors such as the landuse status of the watershed and topographic characteristics to the dynamic water balance model (DWBM) based on the Budyko framework. The parameters a1 of DWBM are introduced as hydrologic cycle indicators. An indicator estimation regression model was developed using watershed characteristics data for the introduced indicator, and an assessment system was prepared through K-means cluster analysis. The hydrological cycle assessment system developed in this study can assess the hydrological cycle with simple data such as land use, CN, and watershed slope, so it can quickly assess changes in hydrological cycle factors in the past and present. Because of this advantage is expected that the developed assessment system can predict changes in the hydrological cycle and use an auxiliary tool for policymaking.
We have analyzed a combined cycle employing refrigerant Rankine cycle and simple refrigeration cycle with one working fluid. Although this cycle shows promising aspects such as simplicity, it does not have a good efficiency to compete with the other existing technologies because of high temperature at the exit of the turbine. However, by introducing a recuperator, it is found that the cycle efficiency can be improved up to the level much higher than other technology's efficiency.
Purpose - This study investigates the performance of investment strategies incorporating estimated stock market cycle based on a lead-lag relationship between business cycle and stock market cycle, thereby deriving empirical implications on risk management. Design/methodology/approach - The data period ranges from June 1953 to September 2022 and de-trended short rate, term spread, credit spread, stock market volatility are considered as major input variables to estimate business cycle and stock market cycle by applying probit model. Based on the estimated stock market cycle, two types of strategies are constructed and their performance relative to the benchmark is empirically examined. Findings Two types of strategies based on stock market cycle are considered: The first strategy is to long(short) on stocks when stock market stage is expected to be an expansion(a recession), and the second one is to long on stocks(bonds) when expecting an expansion(a recession). The empirical results show that the strategies based on stock market cycle outperforms a simple buy and hold strategy in both in-sample and out-of-sample investigation. Also the out-of-sample evidence suggests that the second strategy which is in line with asset allocation is more profitable than the first one. Research implications or Originality The strategies considered in this study are based on the estimated stock market cycle which only depends on a few easily available financial variables, thereby making easier to establish such a strategy. It implies that investors enhance investment performance by constructing a relatively simple trading strategies if they set their position on stocks or choose which asset class to buy conditioning on stock market cycle.
The present CNC machining system if without any CAM software has been limited to 2D or 2.5D plane cut using lines, arcs and curves. If the CNC is equipped with a surface interpolation module and a surface reorganizing module inside it, we can easily try 3D surface machining without aid of CAM software. The existing NURBS surface interpolator is simple and direct to use for a unit surface. However, it enables only machining of each reference surface individually even when machining a simple composite surface. In this paper, we propose a method which can unify and reorganize various reference surfaces with a newly defined NURBS surface cycle command: a multi-repetitive cycle command such as in a CNC turning center. We also introduce a reorganizing rule for reference surfaces using NURBS properties. The usefulness of the proposed method is verified through computer simulation.
This paper considers an Economic Order Quantity Model under random life cycle. It is assumed that the life cycle of the product is unknown; a random variable. Three cost parameters are considered; ordering cost, inventory carrying cost and salvage cost. Expected total cost is the optimization criterion. We show that the optimal cycle length is unique and finite, and present a simple line search method to find an optimal cycle length.
