This paper reports the electrical conductivity and the stress-strain behavior of silver particle-filled silicone composite pastes for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding gasket materials. The percolation threshold (critical concentration) of the composite paste obtained by incorporating irregular sphere-shaped silver particles and room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone resin was determined from the electrical conductivity result. At about 28 vol% Beading of untreated silver particles, the percolation phenomenon occurred and at this critical concentration, the volumetric resistivity, the tensile strength, and the elongation of the pastes were investigated. This work also suggests that the stress-strain characteristics of a composite paste filled with metal particles above the percolation threshold may be effectively improved by properly selecting a coupling agent.

The physical characteristics of polyurethane were examined by SEM, FT-IR tensile strength and mole % [NCO/OH]. Growing concerns in the environment-friendly architecture and public works have led to the development of solvent-free formulations that can be cured and foamed in air. Compared with general packing materials, this resin is much stronger in intensity and much longer in durability. Polyurethane foam resins were mainly composed of polyol, MDI, silicone surfactant, fillers, catalyst and blowing agent. The rigid foam of polyurethane in mechanical characteristics were due to chain extender and the increase of mole % [NCO/OH]. The change in the microstructure of polyurethane should be taken into account when considering the process of construction and durability through the polyurethane polymer resin in lots of industries.
For many years permanent soft denture liners has been widely used in dental practice directly or indirectly because of its function in absorbing and distributing the impact force. However, it reveals problems such as lack of permanency and decreased bond strength in long term use. The purpose of this study is to measure the bond strength and failure between denture base resin and several permanent liners. Lucitone 199 was used as denture base resin with soft acrylic liners (Triad, Tokuso Rebase) and silicone elastomers (Tokuyama, Ufi Gel C) bonded to measure the tensile strength before and after thermocycling. The thermocycling was done in 2000 cycles at $5^{\circ}C,\;26^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}C$ and the measured tensile strength values before and after thermocycling were compared. The mode of failure was investigated in the separated specimens. The results are as follows. 1. As to tensile strength, the strongest material is Tokuso Rebase followed by Triad, Tokuyama, Ufi Gel C in before thermocycling and the order of Triad, Tokuso Rebase, Tokuyama, Ufi Gel C in after thermocycling state. There was significant difference between the values of Triad, Tokuso Rebase and Tokuyama, Ufi Gel C(p<0.05). 2. As to degree of displacement, Ufi Gel C showed most displacement with or without thermo-cycling treatment and also the difference was significant with the other materials(p<0.05). 3. As to comparisons before and after thermocycling, Tokuso Rebase and Tokuyama showed significant difference in bond strength, whereas Triad and Tokuso Rebase showed significant difference in the degree of displacement(p<0.05). 4. In debonded specimens, Triad and Ufi Gel C showed adhesion failure and Tokuyama showed cohesion failure. Both failures were observed in Tokuso Rebase with adhesion failure up to 70%. The results of this study showed that degree of bond strength between permanent soft denture liner and denture base resin were variable. There was a significant difference between soft acrylics and silicone elastomers with regard to bond strength. Further research in improving bond strength of widely used silicone elastomers and in developing the method of measuring bond strength between denture base resin and the lining materials is needed.
The accuracy and dimensional stability of impression materials are one of the most important factors for successful prosthodontic treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of several dental elastomeric impression materials used widely and clinically : Impregum-$F^{(R)},\;Permlastic^{(R)},\;Silascon^{(R)},\;Perfect^{(R)},\;Xantopren^{(R)}$. There have been many studies to evaluate the accuracy of impression materials. But it has not been decided yet, which method was most suitable for the evaluation of the accuracy. In this study, two resin teeth, #15 & 25, were prepared with rounded shoulder margin and 90 degree cavosurface angle. For the polysulfide rubber and polyether, the custom tray was made at least 24 hours prior to impression taking. For the silicone rubber materials, putty/wash impression technique was applied in taking impressions. Marginal openings of the castings on the master dies and prepared resin teeth were measured under stereomicroscope. The results were statistically analyzed and compared between tested impression materials. The results were as follows ; 1. In the overall accuracy of impression materials, polyether was the most accurate one, followed by polysulfide, additional silicone and condensation silicone. 2. On the first model pouring, condensation silicone had the largest discrepancies and there was significant difference compared to the other impression materials. 3. Polysulfide had the least discrepancies in the first model pouring, but showed larger discrepancies in the immediate second pouring than the first pouring. 4. On the immediate second pouring, the discrepancy of polyether was shown to be the smallest, while the largest one was additional silicone. 5. Polyether and polysulfide rubber using custom impression trays showed superior accuracy to silicone rubber, putty/wash impression technique.
A comparative study was conducted to evaluate the relationship of investing medium to the amount of vertical occlusal changes and to the differences of surface smoothness during denture construction. Three groups of 20 dentures, 30 sets of upper and lower were fabricated of conventional heatcuring acrylic denture base resin, using silicone-gypsum molding techniques, with or without covering the occlusal surfaces of the teeth by artificial stone and all-gypsum molding techniques. The distance between the two reference points indented by 1/2 round bur on the upper and lower frontal surfaces of each articulator were measured and recorded before processing and again after processing and remounting of each denture on the articulator. The differences between the two recordings indicated the amount of vertical opening during denture processing. The difference of surface smoothness were investigated and determined by 3 observers continual comparing of the two randomly selected dentures with each other, which were seperately selected as pairs from the different two groups of 20. The results obtained were as follows: 1. During resin processing no statistically significant differences of the amount of vertical occlusal changes were detected between any of the two groups of two silicone-gypsum and one allgypsum molding techniques, although the amount of vertical opening was somewhat increased when silicone-gypsum molding technique was used. 2. Surface smoothness of the processed denture was makedly by increased when silicone-gypsum molding technique was used.

Purpose: This study is a comparative analysis of the strain according to deposition in a constant temperature water bath after manufacturing ultraviolet (UV)-cured artificial teeth. Methods: As a control group, 10 ready-made artificial teeth were selected as the first molar on the right side of the maxilla (RT group). Silicone was used as a duplicate of the artificial denture teeth. Experimental teeth were prepared in two groups using the prepared silicone mold. In the first experimental group, the UV-cured resin was injected into the negative silicone, followed by irradiation with a UV-curing machine for 5 minutes (5M group). In the second experimental group, the UV-cured resin was injected into the negative silicone, and then irradiated for 30 minutes using a UV-curing machine (30M group). The one-way ANOVA was performed, and post-test was analyzed by Tukey. Results: When immersed in a water bath for 15 days, it was found to be -0.3% in the RT group, -0.6% in the 5M group, and -0.7% in the 30M group. The results revealed -0.2% in the RT group, 0.2% in the 5M group, and -0.2% in the 30M group when they were in the bath for 30 days. Conclusion: In the water bath, the swelling was greater when deposited for 1 to 15 days, but was less when deposited for 15 to 30 days.

A high directivity TIR (total internal reflection) lens in the UV-A region was designed using a silicone resin, and a UV light source module with a maximum irradiation density of $150mW/cm^2$ was fabricated. The beam angle of the TIR lens was designed to be $8.04^{\circ}$ and the maximum diameter of the TIR lens was Ø13.5. A silicone resin having a UV transmittance of 93% and a refractive index of 1.4 at a wavelength of 365 nm was used, and the lens was manufactured using an aluminum mold, from which silicone could be easily released. The module was fabricated in a metal printed circuit board of COB (chip on board) type using a $0.75{\times}0.75mm^2$ UV chip. A jig was used to adjust the focal length between lens and chip and to fix the position of the lens. The optical characteristics such as illumination distributions of the lens and module were designed using 'LightTools' optical simulation software. The heat dissipation system was designed to use a forced-air cooling method using a heat-sink and fan.

Recently, silicone is being used for LED chip lens due to its good thermal stability and optical transmittance. In order to predict residual stresses, which cause optical birefringence and mechanical warpage of silicone, a finite element analysis was conducted for the curing of silicone during molding. For the analysis of the curing process, a dynamic cure kinetics model was derived based on the results of a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) testing and applied to the material properties for finite element analysis. Finite element simulation results showed that a step cure cycle reduced abrupt reaction heat and showed a decrease in the residual stresses.
Purpose: This study aimed to assess and compare the marginal fit of ceramic-based hybrid resin restoration (HYB) and zirconia restoration (ZIR) for dental computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing systems. Methods: A stainless steel master model was produced. The impression was first made with silicone, and then stone working models were produced. A total of twenty restorations were fabricated with two different materials: ZIR and HYB. The silicone film thickness of the marginal gap was measured using a digital microscope; digital photos were taken at a magnification of ×160, and then analyzed using a measurement software. The values of the result were evaluated with the independent-sample t-test (α=0.05). All statistical analyses were performed with a statistical software. Results: The mean values for the marginal gap was 37.14±2.96 ㎛ for HYB, compared with 40.37±5.26 ㎛ for ZIR. No significant difference was found between ZIR and HYB (p=0.107). Conclusion: As a result, the marginal fit of the restoration fabricated using the hybrid resin was better than that of the restoration fabricated using zirconia. Also, the marginal fit of all groups was below the clinical acceptable range of 120 ㎛. Thus, HYB for dental CAD/CAM system in this study is expected to be suitable for clinical use in dentistry.

The field of maxillofacial prosthetics is concerned with the prosthetic reconstruction of missing head and neck tissue. Currently, facial prostheses are usually applied in cases of defects caused by the surgical removal of tumors or congenital defects. While silicone has been most widely used for the reconstruction of missing maxillofacial defects, it does not have ideal physical properties. Therefore, bonding a thin polyurethane sheet to silicone prostheses was recommended. In this case skin adhesives were used for the retention of maxillofacial prostheses. But retention of devices has always been problematic. The contributions of implants can be made to solve these problems. Implants have reduced the need for adhesive use, simplifying cleaning procedures and thus extending the life of the prostheses. For implant-retained prostheses, retentive matrix is necessary to hold attachments and/or magnets. The retentive matrix is usually fabricated with autopolymerizing acrylic resin or visible light- polymerized resin. The purpose of this study was to compare the adhesion-in-peel force of silicone adhesive to autopolymerizing acrylic resin and polyurethane sheet with two different surface textures : pumice polish only or retention groove, and three surface primers : Dow corning 1205 primer or Dow corning S-2260 primer or FactorII A-304 primer, and two polymerization methods : room temperature or dry heat oven. The t-peel bond strength of specimens was determined as described in ASTM Standard D1876-72. The results were statistically analyzed using the ANOVA test, multiple range test and t-test The results were as follows. 1. The t-peel bond strength of A-304 primer was the highest and statistically higher than that of S-2260(p<0.05). 2. The t-peel bond strength of specimens with retention groove was statistically higher than that of specimens polished with pumice(p<0.05). 3. The t-peel bond strength of specimens polymerized in dry heat oven was statistically higher than that of specimens in room temperature(p<0.01).
