  • The purpose of this study is to determine the economical standard of road signs by verifying the difference of driver's recognition and reaction time according to the space rate of letters on the road signs. For this reason, indoor simulations was conducted to confirm difference of recognition and reaction time on six sign-targets having different space rate. Also, a negative binomial regression model was used to find the main factors which could lower the rate of misreading. For this model, increasing of legibility of sign is not only simple enlargement of sign, but also suitable match of letters and sign. The result of this study is capable of verifying the importance of the space rate in road signs, and being utilized as a effective method to determine the standard of the road signs.

  • To prevent safety accidents such as injury or death from falling by blocking platforms from trains, the Seoul Metropolitan Subway Corp. have gradually installed screen doors in platforms of 115 subway stations in Seoul on lines 1, 2, 3, and 4. Installation in nine areas among those has been completed and screen doors are being operated as a model operation. Traffic signs should be clear for users. The essential functions of signs should be fully investigated from the aspect of user as well as the visual beauty and recognition. Signs should be able to provide users with information regarding location, position, directions, etc. Particularly, safety and convenient signs should be visually and sensually correlated. However, the entire screen doors in platforms installed in line 2 subway in Seoul are used for commercial advertisement, consequently, the functions and roles as public signs are not fulfilled aggravating inconvenience for users. In this study, cases have been studied to investigate requirements for user-oriented sign system in platform and public sign space to fulfill the functions of sign system in platform. Using an anthropometry approach, the study aimed to obtain the space to install the sign system and to systemize necessary and sufficient conditions for user-oriented system for platform in which screen doors have been installed using. The study suggests fundamental information to obtain the space of public sign system on the entire screen door.

  • If all Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have flux ropes, then the CMEs should keep their helicity signs from the Sun to the Earth according to the helicity conservation principle. We select 34 CME-ICME pairs whose source active regions (ARs) have continuous SOHO/MDI magnetogram data covering more than 24 hr without data gap during the passage of the ARs near the solar disk centre. The helicity signs in the ARs are determined by estimation of accumulating amounts of helicity injections through the photospheric surfaces in the entire source ARs. The helicity signs in the ICMEs are estimated by applying the cylinder model developed by Marubashi (2000) to 16 second resolution magnetic field data from the MAG instrument onboard the ACE spacecraft. It is found that 30 out of 34 events (88%) are helicity sign-consistent events, while 4 events (12%) are sign-inconsistent. Through a detailed investigation of the AR solar origins of the 4 exceptional events, we find that those exceptional events can be explained by the local AR helicity sign opposite to that of the entire AR helicity (2000 July 28 ICME), incorrectly reported solar source in CDAW (2005 May 20 ICME), or the helicity sign of the pre-existing coronal magnetic field (2000 October 13 and 2003 November 20 ICMEs). We conclude that the helicity signs of the ICMEs are quite consistent with those of the injected helicities in the AR regions where CMEs were erupted.

  • Objectives: There are substantial variations on the methods of identifying Sa-sang typology in clinical practice. This review aimed to describe the clinical experiences on the classification of Sa-sang typology based on index signs for practice of Tae-Geuk acupuncture. Methods: Core physical signs and interpretation of treatment response for the classification of Sa-sang typology are suggested based on 42-year clinical experiences of the expert (the first author). Results: Epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound are the most important physical sign in the classification of Sa-sang typology. Clinical experiences indicate that there may be a positive association between the presence of epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound. Four sets of acupuncture points are matched for four types of Sa-sang institution, respectively. Appropriate match will resolve epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound, while this will not happen if inappropriate match is employed. Conclusion: I suggest that two physical signs (i.e., epigastric tenderness and hepatic dullness sound) are essential for the classification of Sa-sang typology in Tae-Geuk acupuncture.

  • Previous research has explored early expression of fire signs before the burning of insulation. To achieve this, typically, automatic inspections are used to detect gas emitted from odor capsules at electrical connection points; additionally, early fire signs can be expressed using visual inspection of changes in the appearance of temperature caps. However, early detection of electrical fire is often difficult because only specific inspections, which are not complex, are performed. Therefore, in this paper, we present complex inspection techniques, such as visual inspection, odor inspection, and automatic inspection, and propose a showing material of fire signs that can solve conventional problems. In addition, this study examines the conditions under which the candidate material for the showing material is designed, the composition of the candidate material selected based on the designed conditions, the manufacturing means used to produce the showing material considering the temperature for early expression of fire signs, and the performance of the produced showing material. Furthermore, we analyze various effects that can occur through the proposed display material.

  • Kodály hand signs are symbols that intuitively represent pitch and note names based on the shape and height of the hand. They are an excellent tool that can be easily expressed using the human body, making them highly engaging for children who are new to music. Traditional hand signs help beginners easily understand pitch and significantly aid in music learning and performance. However, Kodály hand signs have distinctive features, such as the ability to indicate key changes or chords using both hands and to clearly represent accidentals. These features enable the effective use of Kodály hand signs. In this paper, we aim to investigate the changes in recognition rates according to the complexity of scales by creating a device for learning Kodály hand signs, teaching simple Do-Re-Mi scales, and then gradually increasing the complexity of the scales and teaching complex scales and children's songs (such as "May Had A Little Lamb"). The learning device utilizes accelerometer and bending sensors. The accelerometer detects the tilt of the hand, while the bending sensor detects the degree of bending in the fingers. The utilized accelerometer is a 6-axis accelerometer that can also measure angular velocity, ensuring accurate data collection. The learning and performance evaluation of the Kodály learning device were conducted using Python.

  • Nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism in a seven-month old male kitten showing signs of paraparesis (ataxia, dragging the pelvic limbs), abdominal distention, aconuresis was diagnosed with clinical signs, radiographs and serum biochemical tests. In radiographs, bones were abnormally radiolucent and cortices were thin. Serum biochemical tests were performed, but had normal values. The treatment was directed at the suspected dietary calcium and phosphorus imbalance. Oral calcium supplement and a commercial cat food were introduced. On clinical evaluation 3 months later, this case showed no clinical signs.
