  • An Agresti-Coull type test is considered for the difference of binomial proportions in two doubly sampled data subject to common false-positive error. The performance of the test is compared with likelihood-based tests. The Agresti-Coull test has many desirable properties in that it can approximate the nominal significance level well, and has comparable power performance with a computational advantage.

  • From December 1989 to February 1993, 108 patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancers(NSCLC) were studied retrospectively to evaluate radiotherapeutic significance of serum levels of NSE. We considered elevated serum neuron specific enolase(S-NSE) level as one of the neuroendocrine features in NSCLC. Histopathologic evaluation revealed 86 squamous cell carcinomas, 11 adenocarcinomas.3 large cell carcinomas, 3 mucoepidermoid carcinomas, and 5 unknown pathology. Eight Patients had stage 1,40 stage IlIA, and 60 stage lIIB.S-NSE level greater than 15 ng/ml was considered as elevated, and below this considered as normal. All patients recieved radiotherapy as primary treatment modality. The responders to radiotherapy had significantly higher mean S-NSE level than non-responders (28.5 ng/ml vs 20 ng/ml, p=0.01). Overall 2-year survival rate(YSR) was 23.6$ \% $. According to radiotherapy response, 2 YSR for Patients with CR, PR, and NR were 39.2$ \% $, 28.6$ \% $, and 6.2$ \% $ respectively(p=0.001). 2 YSR for patients with elevated and normal S-NSE were 14.6$ \% $ and 31.7$ \% $(p=0.02). The patients with NR showed no difference in survival according to S-NSE level. When we considered all patients, S-NSE level showed no significant impact on response. But for squamous cell carcinomas alone, patients with elevated S-NSE had more responders(80$ \% $ vs 61$ \% $, p=0.05). There was no correlation between tumor characteristics and S-NSE level. But the patients with elevated S-NSE had more patients with higher nodal stage, Based on our and other datas, NSCLC with neuroendocrine features have different response to treatment and clinical behavior compared to other NSCLC. Thus, this subgroup may need different treatment modality, and S-NSE level may have prognostic significance.

  • This study aims to analyze the mediating effect of disability level on the relationship between economic activity participation and life satisfaction level of middle-age and older women with disabilities. The survey respondents were 4,961 women with disabilities aged from 45 to 65 who participated in one of the first series of the PSED(2nd to 8th). Results of the analysis showed the economic activities of middle-aged and older women with disabilities and level of disability were correlated with a statistical significance in the analysis phase 1 and 2, and economic activity participation affected life satisfaction level through the level of disability as a parameter, indicating that a mediating effect does exist. This study suggests that to enhance the life satisfaction level of middle-aged and older women with disabilities through participation in economic activities, an employment scheme based on their level of disability is necessary.

  • Background: Neck pain is a major health problem in developed countries and has a lifetime prevalence of 50%. Major problems include a reduced cervical range of motion, muscle stiffness, dysfunction, postural changes, and decrease in psychosocial level. Objects: This study aimed to investigate the effects of applying the upper trapezius inhibition dynamic taping to patients with chronic neck pain on their neck pain, functional level, cervical range of motion, psychosocial level, and neck posture. Methods: The study design was a randomized controlled trial. A total of 40 patients with neck pain participated in this study and were randomly assigned to a Dynamic Taping group (n = 20) or Sham Taping group (n = 20). In both groups, basic intervention cervical pain control therapy and shoulder stabilization exercise program were performed. In addition, dynamic taping and sham taping were applied to participants in the Dynamic Taping and Sham Taping groups to inhibit the trapezius muscle, respectively. All interventions were performed three times a week and a total of 12 times for 4 weeks, and the participants' neck pain, functional impairment level, cervical range of motion, psychosocial level, and neck posture were measured and compared before and after the intervention. Results: Both groups showed significant differences in neck pain, functional level, cervical range of motion, psychosocial level, and neck postural before and after the intervention (p < 0.05). Moreover, there were significant differences between the two groups regarding the functional level and neck posture (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Inhibition dynamic taping of the upper trapezius muscle suppression is an effective method with clinical significance in reducing pain in individuals with chronic neck pain and improving the functional level, cervical range of motion, psychosocial level, and neck posture.

  • Two separate trials were conducted to determine effects of dietary level of whole flaxseed (WFS; 0, 10 and 15%) on feed intake, weight gain, and carcass yield and quality of Korean Hanwoo cattle. The daily gains of bulls (Trial 1) were not different among treatment groups, but those of cows (Trial 2) fed WFS 15% were higher (p<0.01) than others. Feed intake of both bulls and cows tended to decrease as dietary level of WFS increased. However, feed conversion ratio (feed/gain) of bulls tended to be improved by dietary inclusion of WFS and was significantly improved (p<0.01) in cows by increasing level of WFS. Neither carcass weight nor dressing percentage were affected by WFS level. Back fat thickness of bulls was decreased (p<0.01) by dietary inclusion of WFS and the same trend was observed in cows without statistical significance. Loin-eye area of bulls was not different among treatment groups but was significantly higher (p<0.01) in cows fed WFS. Carcass yield and quality were not improved by WFS addition. The results indicate that WFS is an acceptable fat source in diets of finishing beef cattle to increase energy density without any adverse effects.

  • Purpose: Prior studies rarely investigated the effects of the Word of Mouse (WoM) information on consumers' motivation and willingness to purchase a product. Furthermore, few scholars have studied how word-of-mouth information works and they fail to find consistent results. Research design, data and methodology: This study uses a multivariate regression model to investigate the influence of WoM on consumer attitudes and consumer decision-making. It categorizes the quality of WoM into source level and acceptance level, to analyze its influence from a new perspective. A total of 400 surveys were completed, resulting in 336 usable questionnaires for analysis. It was collected in 14 cities from all regions in China. This study constructs a theoretical model of WoM influence on consumers' purchase willingness based on a systematic review of the related literature on WoM quality, perceived value, customer trust, and consumers' purchase willingness. Results: Empirical results reveal that the Internet WoM (consumer's source level and acceptance level) indirectly affects consumer behavior by influencing consumer attitudes. Conclusions: This study provides practical significance and value for merchants to develop better WoM marketing and to establish the reliability of WoM websites. Companies should consider online WoM from the perspective of consumers, thereby improving existing marketing strategies.

  • In this paper, we investigate the nonlinear dynamic behavior of TPP (thiamine pyrophosphate) riboswitches in E. coli (Escherichia coli). TPP riboswitches are highly conserved RNA regulatory elements, embedded within the 5’'untranslated region of three TPP biosynthesis operons. The three operons thiCEFSGH, thiMD, and thiBPQ are involved in the biosynthesis, salvage, and transport of TPP, respectively. TPP riboswitches modulate their expressions in response to changing TPP concentration, without involving protein cofactors. Interestingly, the expression of thiMD is regulated at the translational level, while that of thiCEFSGH at both levels of transcription and translation. We develop a mathematical model of the TPP riboswitch’s regulatory system possessed by thiCEFSGH and thiMD, so as to simulate the time-course experiments of TPP biosynthesis in E. coli. The simulation results are validated against three sets of reported experimental data in order to gain insight into the nature of steady states and the stability of TPP riboswitches, and to explain the biological significance of regulating at level of transcription or translation, or even both. Our findings suggest that in the TPP biosynthesis pathway of E. coli, the biological effect of down-regulating thiCEFSGH operon at the translational level by TPP riboswitch is less prominent than that at the transcriptional level.

  • This study was to identify the correlation between the degree of burden, stress and social support of family caregivers in ICU patient. The subjects were 146 family care givers observed at a general hospital at D city. The level of stress that family caregivers experience the average points of 2.18, which is considered less than average. The level of burden that average point of 2.51. Points for level of subjective feeling ranged from 1.74 to 3.90. The average point of 3.03 is higher than that for objectively recognized feeling. The points for social support that average point of 3.03 for social support proves that families feel positive about the social support they are receiving. The level of stress which shows that the lower the income, the higher the stress. The effect on stress shows significance in subjective feelings of burden, social support, and employment, indicating that they have correlations with stress. Both the feeling of burden and social support have an impact upon the stress that patient families experience.
