Rb-Sr Isochron Ages, Sr and Nd Isotopic Compositions of Granophyre in the Haenam-Wando Areas, Korea (해남-완도지역 Granophyre의 Rb-Sr 등시선 연대와 Sr, Nd 동위원소 조성)

  • Rb-Sr isochron ages, Sr and Nd isotopic compositions were determined for late Cretaceous granophyre on the Haenam-Wando areas, the southwestern part of the Yeongdong-Kwangju depression in Korea. The granophyre in the Haenam-Wando areas are distributed in the shape of a resurgent cauldron. Five samples of Haenam granophyre give a defined Rb-Sr whole rock isochron age of $75.7{\pm}7.2Ma$ and Sr initial ratio of $0.70826{\pm}0.00020(2{\sigma})$. Plagioclase, orthoclase and whole rock of Haenam granophyre give a defined Rb-Sr whole rock-mineral isochron age of $67.0{\pm}5.8Ma$ and Sr initial ratio of $0.708880{\pm}0.00028(2{\sigma})$. Five samples of Wando granophyre give a defined Rb-Sr whole rock isochron age of $70.6{\pm}3.3Ma$ and Sr initial ratio of $0.70850{\pm}0.00088(2{\sigma})$. Eight samples of Haenam granophyre give a defined Nd isotope ratios of 0.512180~0.512259 and ${\varepsilon}Nd$ (T) values of -6.53~-8.15, ${\varepsilon}Sr$ (T) values of +51.49~+66.48 and model age of 1.28~1.60 Ga. Four samples of Wando granophyre give a defined Nd isotope ratios of 0.512228~0.512289 and ${\varepsilon}Nd$ (T) values of -6.74~-8.00, ${\varepsilon}Sr$ (T) values of +54.88~+78.98 and model age of 1.14~1.42 Ga.

  • The herbicidal activities ($pI_{50}$) with alkoxy (RO-) groups on the azomethine nitrogen atom in 5-(2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethylbenzothiophene-7-yl)-2-(1-(alkoxyimino)butyl)-3-hydroxy-2-cyclohexene-1-one derivatives against various weeds were measured in the flooded and in the paddy conditions. Particularly, i-propoxy subsutuent, 5 of them showed excellent herbicidal activity at a rate of 4kg/ha with pre-emergence against barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-galli) with good selectivity on rice plant (Oryza sativa). The results of the structure-activity relationships (SAR) analyses are shown that the alkyl subsituents with higher hydrophobicity (logp>0) and electron donating (${\sigma}^*<0$) group as a new substrate rather than alkoxy substituents seems to be contribute to the herbicidal activity with pre-emergence.

  • In order to figure out the normal range, lower limit of hypertension and upper limit of hypotension of the blood pressure of Korean, authors had measured blood pressure according to Korotkow's method for 31,897 healthy persons as samples who were occupied different levels of the social class except cases who would seem to be the essential hypertension and had the diseases affecting to secondary hypertension. A following conclusion was induced by actual measurement and statistical reasoning. 1. The normal range and limits of hypo- and hypertension by sex and age groups of Korean were demonstrated in Table 1 and Figure 1. 2. The more aging the higher value of blood pressure in both sexes, especially women rather than men and systolic as to diastolic. 3. Generally, blood pressure values of female were lower than male, after 55 years of age, however, the crossing phenomenon was recognizable. 4. To settle the normal and abnormal ranges of the blood pressure of Korean, it was attempted that $M{\pm}1.282{\sigma}$ as normal range, $M+2{\sigma}$ as lower limit of hypertension and $M-2{\sigma}$ as upper limit of hypotension were calculated, and regression lines were drawn to adjust the biological variables and derive continuity from each age class. The blood pressure levels were becoming elevated as to getting increased of the body weight, particularly diastolic value at 40-49 age group in male and systolic value at 30-39 age group in female.

Grain Refinement and Mechanical Properties of AM60 Mg Alloy by $CaCN_2$ Addition (Ca$CN_2$ 첨가에 의한 AM60 마그네슘 합금의 결정립 미세화 및 기계적 성질)

  • Effects of $CaCN_2$ addition on the grain refinement in the AM60 magnesium ingots were investigated. The effects of the $CaCN_2$ are estimated with different inoculation temperatures, inoculation contents, and holding time to find out the optimum condition. AM60 alloy was melted in the low carbon steel crucible by cylindrical electric furnace under an argon atmosphere. The melting and casting apparatus is specially designed for magnesium alloys. The grain size of AM60 magnesium alloy decreased significantly with an increase in $CaCN_2$ content and, at 0.8 wt% $CaCN_2$ or more, grain size becomes constant at about $85 {\mu}m$. The optimum condition was obtained in the 0.8 wt% $CaCN_2$ for holding molten metal of 30 min. at the temperature of $710^{\circ}C$. The tensile properties of AM60 magnesium alloys were improved due to grain refinement by addition of $CaCN_2$. In the optimum condition, the yield strength, tensile strength and elongation were ${\sigma}_{0.2}=107 MPa$, ${\sigma}_{T.S}=234 MPa$ and e=14.2%. The variation of stress with strain obeyed the relationship of the ${\sigma}=K{\varepsilon}^n$. The strain-hardening exponent, n and strength coefficient, K obtained in the 0.8 wt% $CaCN_2$ added AM 60 magnesium alloy were n=0.21 and K=390 MPa.

Porcine study on the efficacy of autogenous tooth bone in the maxillary sinus

  • Objectives: This study sought to elucidate the effect of autogenous tooth bone material by experimenting on minipig's maxillary sinus and performing histological and histomorphometric analyses. Materials and Methods: Five 18-24 month-old male minipigs were selected, and right maxillary sinuses were grafted with bone graft material made of their respective autogenous teeth extracted eight weeks earlier. The left sides were grafted with synthetic hydroxyapatite as control groups. All minipigs were sacrificed at 12 weeks after bone graft, which was known to be 1 sigma (${\sigma}$) period for pigs. Specimens were evaluated histologically under a light microscope after haematoxylin-eosin staining followed by semi-quantitative study via histomorphometric analysis. The ratio of new bone to total area was evaluated using digital software for calculation of area. Results: All specimens were available, except one on the right side (experimental group), which was missing during specimen preparation. This study demonstrated new bone at the periphery of the existing bone in both groups, showing evidence of bone remodeling, however, encroachment of new bone on the central part of the graft at the 1 ${\sigma}$ period was observed only in the autogenous tooth bone group (experimental group). Histomorphometric analysis showed more new bone formation in the experimental group compared to the control group. Although the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05), the mean percentage area for new bone for the experimental and control groups were $57.19%{\pm}11.16%$ and $34.07%{\pm}13.09%$, respectively. Conclusion: The novel bone graft material using autogenous tooth is a good alternative to autogenous bone, comparable to autogenous bone, and outperforming synthetic hydroxyapatite bone graft materials in terms of bone regeneration capacity. Augmentation with autogenous tooth bone materials will reduce donor site morbidity without hampering the safety of the autogenous bone graft.

Radiocarbon Dating of a Wooden Board from Mado Shipwreck No. 4 Using Wiggle Matching (위글 매치를 이용한 마도4호선의 방사성탄소연대 측정)

  • The purpose of this study was to carry out radiocarbon dating using a wiggle match, of wooden boards and grains from the Mado shipwreck No. 4, which was excavated from Mado in Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do. The result of the wiggle matching for four decennial tree-ring samples of the stern plank produced a ${\pm}2{\sigma}$ radiocarbon date (95.4% confidence interval) of A.D. 1337-1356 or A.D. 1412-1429. The grains produced a ${\pm}2{\sigma}$ radiocarbon date (95.4% confidence interval) of A.D. 1415-1455. This indicated that the Mado shipwreck No. 4 belonged to the early or middle of the 15th century. These radiocarbon dating results correlate with the date that was speculated by archaeologists according to the ship's structure and ceramic style.

  • For the deformation, life time prediction and improvement of the life time in high temperature materials it's very important to know the mechanism of deformation. For these mechanisms the dislocation loop models of Orlova et al. and Mills et al. are used often now. But they show controversial differencies, even if they have unertaken similar experimental tests with the same alloy of A1-5.5at.% Mg. In this work also the similiar tests of them have done under the same temperature of 573 K ; (1) The specimen was deformed by $\sigma$= 30MPa and $\varepsilon$=0.03. (2) Direct after creep deformation of $\sigma$= 30MPa and $\sigma$= 0.03 the stress reduction tests to 15, 10 and OMPa have been performed. (3) To study the loop models dislocation structure and dislocation density ( p ) have been observed.

Simultaneous Determination of Zinc, Cadmium, Lead and Copper in Tungsten Matrix by Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (펄스차이 벗김전압전류법에 의한 텅스텐 중 아연, 카드뮴, 납 및 구리의 미량성분 동시분석)

  • The simultaneous determination of Zn, Cd, Pb and Cu in 1.000%(w/v) tungsten matrix by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry at a hanging mercury drop electrode has been studied. Tartaric acid(pH=5.00) was used as a supporting electrolyte. Optimum analytical conditions were found that the deposition potential was -1.2 volt(vs. Ag/AgCl), the deposition time was 3 minutes. The linear concentration range of all trace metal ions in 1.000%(w/v) tungsten matrix were 10 to 50 ppb. And the detection limit(3${\sigma}$) of zinc, cadmium, lead and copper were 1.25, 1.02, 1.69, and 1.02 ppb respectively. This method was superior to the ICP-AES method which detection limits(3${\sigma}$) in 1.000%(w/v) tungsten matrix were 8.0, 5.0, 120 and 5 ppb respectively.

  • A reference voltage generator which is insensitive to PVT (process-voltage-temperature) variation necessary for NVM memory IPs such as EEPROM and MTP memories is designed in this paper. The designed BGR (bandgap reference voltage) circuit based on MagnaChip's $0.18{\mu}m$ EEPROM process uses a low-voltage bandgap reference voltage generator of cascode current-mirror type with a wide swing and shows a reference voltage characteristic insensitive to PVT variation. The minimum operating voltage is 1.43V and the VREF sensitivity against VDD variation is 0.064mV/V. Also, the VREF sensitivity against temperature variation is $20.5ppm/^{\circ}C$. The VREF voltage has a mean of 1.181V and its three sigma ($3{\sigma}$) value is 71.7mV.

Simplified Noise Modeling of GPS Measurements for a Fast and Reliable Cycle Ambiguity Resolution

  • The relationship between the observable noise model and the satellite elevation angle can be modeled quite well by an exponential function.[Jin, 1996] Noise size and dependence on the elevation angle are, however, different for each observation and receiver type. Therefore, the coefficient determination of this model is an issue, and various methods including PR-CP, single difference, and time difference have been suggested. The limitations of them are difficulty to model the carrier phase noise and to eliminate bias. To overcome these disadvantages for using Jin's model, we suggest zero baseline double difference (DD) and noise sorting algorithm. Data DD technique in zero baseline is useful to eliminate all the troublesome GPS biases, and the remaining error is the sum of GPS measurement noises from two satellites. These DD residuals for hours should be sorted by the combination of satellite elevation angles, and then variance value of the residual for each combination can be estimated. Using these values, we construct an over-determined linear equation whose solution is a set of noise variance for each satellite elevation angle. With 24hr Trimble 4000ssi data, we easily worked out the coefficients of the noise model not only for pseudorange but also for carrier phase. We estimated the standard deviation of the measurement DD using our model, and plotted 1 and 3 sigma lines for every epoch to verify the representation of the residual error. 63.3% of pseudorange residual and 65.9% of phase error did not exceed the 1 sigma lines. Additionally, 99.2% and 99.5% of them lied within 3sigma line. These figures prove that the Gaussian property of measurement noise, and that the suggested model by our algorithm corresponds to the observable noise information.
