Retrofitting reinforced concrete beams by bolting steel plates to their sides -Part 1: Behaviour and experiments

  • A procedure has been developed for bolting steel plates to the sides of existing reinforced concrete beams which can be used to increase the shear strength of beams, increase the flexural strength of beams with enhanced ductility or with only a small loss of ductility, and increase the stiffness of beams in order to reduce deflections and crack widths. It will be shown in this paper, through a qualitative analysis and through the results of testing eight large scale beams, that standard rigid plastic analysis techniques which are commonly used in the design of reinforced-concrete, steel, and composite steel and concrete beams cannot be used directly to design composite bolted-plated reinforced-concrete beams. In the companion paper, quantitative procedures will be used to adapt the standard rigid plastic analysis techniques for this relatively new form of retrofitting.

  • A study is on the coupon which is one of the sales promotion methods for family restaurant. The factor of family restaurant coupon use in the study was analyzed based on theoretical study. In addition, difference of food service manners by behavior and demographic factor, and so by means of this factor was analyzed and was done t-Test and anova. As a result of this study, eight factors were found. This eight factors were named by researcher. Eight factors are as follows There are 1. factor taste, 2. factor choice, 3. factor expectation, 4. factor satisfaction, 5. factor durability, 6. factor convenience, 7. factor safety, 8. factor preference. These factors influence family restaurant coupon used by customer. And so we know that between demographic factor and food service manners are different. In the conclusion, the factor of family restaurant coupon use, by valuable sides and typical sides was presented as the sales promotion methods for coupon. First, valuable side endows coupon with value and so lead persistent purchase. Second, typical side cause interest and so leads repurchase. But in the future, continuous study should be go on for satisfaction of customer and effective marketing strategy of family restaurant.

Autophagy in neurodegeneration: two sides of the same coin

  • Autophagy is a bulk lysosomal degradation process important in development, differentiation and cellular homeostasis in multiple organs. Interestingly, neuronal survival is highly dependent on autophagy due to its post-mitotic nature, polarized morphology and active protein trafficking. A growing body of evidence now suggests that alteration or dysfunction of autophagy causes accumulation of abnormal proteins and/or damaged organelles, thereby leading to neurodegenerative disease. Although autophagy generally prevents neuronal cell death, it plays a protective or detrimental role in neurodegenerative disease depending on the environment. In this review, the two sides of autophagy will be discussed in the context of several neurodegenerative diseases.

Distribution of CO Concentration in Two Tunnel Models Using CFD

  • Carbon monoxide (CO) is a primary air pollutant as an indicator of air quality released from motor vehicle combustion. A comparative study of the distributions of CO concentration with no heat source in two tunnel models open and closed at both end sides is simulated with a commercial CFD code. The tunnel models are used to investigate the CO concentration distributions at three Reynolds numbers, which are computed by the inlet velocities of 0.3, 0.6 and 1.0 m/s. For a better tunnel design, the CFD predictive approaches are available in qualitatively studying the distributions of CO concentration. In the case of the tunnel open at both end sides in sixty seconds, the total CO concentrations are approximately twenty eight percent higher than those in the closed case.

  • Effectiveness of corrective machining algorithm is verified experimentally in this paper by performing corrective lapping work to single side and double sides hydrostatic tables. Lapping is applied as machining method. Machining information is calculated from measured motion errors by applying the algorithm, without information on rail profile. It is possible to acquire 0.13pm of linear motion error, 1.40arcsec of angular motion error in the case of single side table, and 0.07pm of linear motion error, 1.42arcsec of angular motion error in the case of double sides table. The experiment is performed by the unskilled person after he experienced a little of preliminary machining. Experimental results show that corrective machining algorithm is very effective, and anyone can improve the accuracy of hydrostatic table by using the algorithm.

가스터빈 블레이드 끝단 형상에 따른 블레이드 끝단 및 그 주변에서의 열전달 계수 변화 (Effect of Blade Tip Geometry on Heat Transfer Coefficients on Gas Turbine Blade Tips and Near Tip Regions)

  • Detailed heat transfer coefficient distributions an two. types of gas turbine blade tip, plane tip and squealer tip, were measured using a hue-detection base transient liquid crystals technique.. The heat transfer coefficients an the shroud and near tip regions of the pressure and suction sides af the blade were also. measured. The heat transfer measurements were taken at the three different tip gap clearances af 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.5% of blade span. Results shaw the overall heat transfer coefficients on the tip and shroud with squealer tip blade were lower than those with plane tip blade. By using squealer tip, however, the reductions af heat transfer coefficients near the tip regions of the pressure and suction sides were nat remarkable.

  • An automated process planning system for cold forging of non-axisymmetric parts of comparatively simple shape was developed in this study. Programs for the system have been written with Visual LISP in the AutoCAD using a personal computer and are composed of four main modules such as input module, shape cognition and shape expression module, material diameter determination module and process planning module. The design rules and knowledges for th system are extracted from the plasticity theories. handbook, relevant reference and empirical knowledge of field experts. Generally, in forging, only front view is needed for expression of axisymmetric parts, but non-axisymmetric parts are needed both front view and plane. At the plane, this system cognizes the external shape of non-axisymmetric parts - number of sides of regular polygon and radius of a circle circumscribing the polygon of n sides. At the front view, the system perceives diameter of axisymmetric portions and hight of primitive geometries such as polygon, cylinder, cone, concave, convex, etc.

Benchmark Modal Stress-Resultant Distributions for Vibrating Rectangular Plates with Two Opposite Edges Free

  • This paper presents exact solutions for the modal stress-resultant distributions for vibrating rectangular Mindlin plates involving two opposite sides simply supported while the other two sides free. These exact stress-resultants of vibrating plates with free edges, hitherto unavailable, are very important because they serve as benchmark solutions for checking numerical solutions and methods. Using the exact solutions of a square plate, this paper highlights the problem of determining accurate stress-resultants, especially the transverse shear forces and twisting moments in thin plates, when employing the widely used numerical methods such as the Ritz method and the finite element method. Thus, this study shows that there is a need for researchers to develop refinements to the Ritz method and the finite element method for determining very accurate stress-resultants in vibrating plates with free edges.

뇌졸중환자 내측 비복근의 초음파 영상 분석 (The Analysis of Ultrasonography on Gastrocnemius Medialis of Patient with Stroke)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study were to analyze ultrasonography on both sides of gastrocnemius medialis of stroke patient. Methods: In fourteen subjects with stroke, the gastrocnemius medialis(GM) muscle were scanned with ultrasonography at the muscle belly at rest at ankle angles of 0 degree (neutral position) and it were measured with ultrasonography on both sides of the leg. Muscle architecture (thickness, pennation angle, fascicle length, density, white area index) was examined using real-time B-mode ultrasonography with 7.5MHz linear-array prob. Results: Thickness of non-paratic side was significantly thicker than paratic side. Pennation angle of non-paratic side was significantly larger than paratic side. Fascicle length of non-para tic side was significantly smaller than paratic side. Density of non-paratic side was significantly smaller than paratic side. White area index of non-paranc side was significantly smaller than paratic side. Conclusion: This study showed that stroke have influenced on mechanical properties and quality properties of skeletal muscle architecture.

  • The particle which has two different characteristics on both sides is called Janus particle which is emerging as a key material in microscale transport systems. For example, if one hemisphere has polarity and the other does not, then nonpolar sides would attract each other so that a complex cluster is formed. Thus, this fascinating material can be used as an element of twisting ball panel display, complex micro-scale clusters, drug delivery unit, and active detecting beads. The keywords in developing Janus particle are size and uniformity. Former researches solved uniformity but downsizing still remains a problem. There are three methods to generate small size particles in microchannels: co-flowing, cross-flowing, and elongational flows. In this research, we generate Janus particles smaller than 10-${\mu}$m in diameter using elongational flow in microchannels. And we use UV initiator with Hydrogen UV source to solidify micro size particles. One hemisphere of the particle is coated with rhodamin for visualization.
