  • PDZ domains bind to short segments within target proteins in a sequence-specific fashion. GRIP/ABP family proteins contain six to seven PDZ domains and interact via its sixth PDZ domain (class Ⅱ) with the C-termini of various proteins, including liprin-α. In addition the PDZ456 domain mediates the formation of homo- and heteromultimers of GRIP proteins. To better understand the structural basis of peptide recognition by a class Ⅱ PDZ domain and DZ-mediated multimerization, we determined the crystal structures of the GRIPI PDZ6 domain, alone and in complex with a synthetic C-terminal octapeptide of human liprin-α, at resolutions of 1.5 Å and 1.8 Å, respectively. Remarkably, unlike other class Ⅱ PDZ domains, Ile736 at αB5 rather than conserved Leu732 at αB1 makes a direct hydrophobic contact with the side chain of the Tyr at the -2 position of the ligand. Moreover, the peptide-bound structure of PDZ6 shows a slight reorientation of helix αB, indicating that the second hydrophobic pocket undergoes a conformational adaptation to accommodate the bulkiness of the Tyr's side chain, and forms an antiparallel dimer through an interface located at a site distal to the peptide-binding groove. This configuration may enable formation of GRIP multimers and efficient clustering of GRIP-binding proteins.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study and analyze the improvement method for the failure examples including the vehicle brake system in actual field. It was verified that the indicator plate of pad wear scratched the brake disk because of wearing after displacement of non- identification parts pad. The caliper of other vehicle was installed with brake system verified the phenomenon produced groove in center point because of one side wear when the pad was not fully contacted with the rub disk by other action surface pressure and pad action condition. It verified that the crack phenomenon fatigue was produced by brake thermal deformation because of decreasing the thickness by grinding to modify the non-uniformed wear of brake disk. It verified that the friction sound was produced by the friction phenomenon because of non-uniformed contact of lining and an alien substance with inner of the drum and lining braking by crack phenomenon with brake drum surface.

  • For a nanoscale Cu/low-k wafer, inter-layer dielectric (ILD) and metal layers peelings, cracks, chipping, and delamination are the most common dicing defects by traditional diamond blade saw process. Sidewall void in sawing street is one of the key factors to bring about cracks and chipping. The aim of this research is to evaluate laser grooving & mechanical sawing parameters to eliminate sidewall void and avoid top-side chipping as well as peeling. An ultra-fast pico-second (ps) laser is applied to groove/singulate the 28-nanometer node wafer with Cu/low-k dielectric. A series of comprehensive parametric study on the recipes of input laser power, repetition rate, grooving speed, defocus amount and street index has been conducted to improve the quality of dicing process. The effects of the laser kerf geometry, grooving edge quality and defects are evaluated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and focused ion beam (FIB). Experimental results have shown that the laser grooving technique is capable to improve the quality and yield issues on Cu/low-k wafer dicing process.

  • It is difficult to machine below 10 micrometers by conventional machining methods, such as micro-EDM. However, ultra micro machining using focused ion beam(FIB) is able to machine to 50 nanometers. In addition, 3 dimensional structures can be made by a combination of FIB and CVD to the level of 10 nanometers. Die & moulds techniques are better than one-to-one machining techniques in the mass production of ultra size structures, in regards to production costs. In this case, the machining precision of die & moulds affects produced parts. Also, it is advantageous to machine die & moulds to the 10 micrometer level by FIB technique rather than other techniques. In this paper, the grooving characteristics for die & mould materials by FIB were carried out experimentally in order to compare the machining characteristics of FIB with conventional machining methods. The results showed that the machining parameters and the scanning path of FIB affects the precision. The machined width and depth of the groove varied depending on the required depth due to the redeposition of the sputtered ion material accumulating on both the bottom and the side of the wall.

  • Complete and optimal visualization of the mitral apparatus is a prerequisite for accurate repair or replacement of the mitral valve. A vertical left atriotomy just posterior to the interatrial groove is the most commonly used approach. However, exposure can be difficult under certain circumstances, such as small left atrium or reoperation. Other approaches have been advocated to deal with this difficult situations. We used an extended transseptal approach in 10 patients and good clinical results and excellent educational effects were obtained. The extended transseptal approach combines two semicircular atrial incisions circumscribing the tricuspid and mitral annuli anteriorly and superiorly, allowing exposure of the mitral valve by deflecting the ventricular side using stay sutures. The right atrium is opened anteriorly along the atrioventricular sulcus. The atrial septum is incised vertically through the fossa ovalis. Right atrial and septal incisions are joined at the superior end of the interatrial septum and extended across the dome of the left atrium to the left atrial appendage. The mitral valve was replaced in all 10 patients. Four of 10 patients had other simultaneous valve procedure: one had aortic valve replacement: 2 underwent tricuspid annuloplasty: 1 had aortic valve replacement and tricuspid annuloplasty. There was no hospital death and complication. Among the 5 patients who had atrial fibrillation preoperatively,4 had atrial fibrillation postoperatively,1 converted to sinus rhythm. The five patients who were in normal sinus rhythm preoperatively remained in sinus rhythm after replacement. A review of our results with this approach confirms the efficacy and safty of this method. So we recommanded this approach for routine mitral valve procedure, especially difficult situations, such as a small left atrium or the redo operation.

  • An application of innovative laser+GMA hybrid welding process is presented for reducing bead humping defects in high speed welding and increasing side wall fusion in narrow groove welding without torch or wire oscillation. In this hybrid process, the laser heat input is applied adjacent to the weld pool at a relatively low power density to produce a wider, flatter weld bead. In bead on plate in sheet metal gauges, the hybrid process was able to produce hump-free welds from 70ipm (${\sim}1780mm/min$) to over 150ipm (${\sim}3810mm/min$) of the travel speed compared to the un-assisted GMAW process. A square-butt joint in 15mm A572 Gr50 steel welds was investigated. A square butt joint with a gap of 3.2mm was filled with 6 passes. Liquid Nitrogen calorimetry and innovative $CO_2$ laser reflective optics were also developed to demonstrate the concept of hybrid welding.

  • Elastic-plastic fracture toughness $J_{1c}$ can be used as an effective design criterion in elastic plastic fracture mechanics. Most of these systems are operated at high temperature and $J_{1c}$ values are affected by temperature. therefore, the $J_{1c}$ valuse at high temperature must be determined for use of integrity evaluation and designing of such systems. Elastic-plastic fracture toughness $J_{1c}$ tests were performed on SA516 carbon steel plate and test results were analyzed according to ASTM E 813-8, ASTM 1813-89. Safety and integrity are required for reactor pressure vessels vecause pthey are operated in high temperature. there are single specimen method, which used as evaluation of safety and integrity for reactor pressure vessels. In this study, elastic-plastic fracture toughness$(J_{1c})$ and $J-\Delta{a}$ of SA 516/70 steel used as reactor pressure vessel steel are measured and evaluated at room Temperature, $150^{\circ}C$, $250^{\circ}C$ and $370^{\circ}C$ according to unloading compliance method.

  • In this paper, the plano-convex lens antenna fed by a single patch is studied for a microwave remote-traffic monitoring sensor with constraints of small size and low cost. Measurement of an AUT (Antenna Under Test) involves the considerations of a triangular groove for matched layer and metallic shielding effects. A formulation for extracting the parameters of a piano-convex lens antenna, based on geometrical optics, is introduced using Fermat`s principle of the equi-phased ray condition. Teflon ($\varepsilon_{{\gamma}}$/ =2.0) is chosen as a material of a plano-convex lens antenna for adjustment of aberrations on the lens surfaces automatically. A fabricated plano-convex lens shows 3-dB beamwidth of 7.5 degree and side-lobe level of -29 dB with an aperture distribution of the parabolic-squared taper on pedestal. This lens supports easier integration with the planar microwave circuits by using a microstrip single patch as a primary feeder of the lens antenna.feeder of the lens antenna.
