  • Secondary instability in the flow past two square cylinders in side-by-side arrangements is numerically studied by using a Floquet analysis. The distance between the neighboring faces of the two cylinders (G) is the key parameter which affects the secondary instability under consideration. In this paper, we present the critical Reynolds number for the secondary instability and the corresponding spanwise wave number of the most unstable (or least stable) wave for each G. Our results would shed light on a complete understanding of the onset of secondary instability in the presence of two side-by-side square cylinders.

  • Two-dimensional flow over a pair of circular cylinders in side-by-side arrangements at low Reynolds numbers has been numerically investigated in this study. Numerical simulations are performed, using the immersed boundary method, in the ranges of $40{\leq}Re{\leq}160$ and $g^{\ast}<5$, where Re and $g^{\ast}$ are, respectively, the Reynolds number and the spacing between the two cylinder surfaces divided by the cylinder diameter. Results show that total six kinds of wake patterns are observed over the ranges: antiphase-synchronized, inphase-synchronized, flip-flopping, single bluff-body, deflected, and steady wake patterns. It is found that the characteristics of the flow significantly depends both on the Reynolds number and gap spacing, with the latter much stronger than the former. Instantaneous flow fields, time traces, flow statistics and so on are presented to identify the wake patterns and then to understand the underlying mechanism. It is remarkable that, for the deflected wake pattern, the gap flow is deflected invariably to the cylinder of higher drag coefficient and the deflection way does not change at all. Moreover, the bifurcation phenomena where either of two wake patterns can occur are found at certain flow conditions.

직렬 및 병렬배열에서 2원주의 유체역학적 간섭 (Hydrodynamic Interference between Two Circular Cylinders in Tandem and Side by Side Arrangements)

  • The hydrodynamic interference between two circular cylinders in tandem and side by side arrangements was investigated by measuring of lift and drag on each cylinder. The time variations of interference lift and drag coefficients in each arrangement were observed at center-to-center pitch ratios of P/D=1.25 and 2.5 and Reynolds number of $Re=1.5\times10^4$. Average interference lift and drag coefficients were also observed at pitch ratios from P/D=1.25 to 2.5 and Reynolds number from $Re=1.5\times10^4$ to $1.5\times10^4$. The hydrodynamic interference between two circular cylinders differed with the shape of the arrangement and the pitch ratio, but the characteristics were revealed by measuring of lift and drag on each cylinder.

병렬 배열된 2 원기둥의 유력 진동 특성과 그 메커니즘 (Flow-induced Vibration Characteristics of Two Circular Cylinders in a Side-by-Side Arrangement and the Vibration Mechanism)

  • 본 연구는 탄성 지지된 두 원기둥이 병렬로 배열되어 있을 때의 유력 진동 특성을 실험적으로 연구한 것이다. 구체적으로 2 원기둥의 각 간격(L/D, L:2 원기둥의 최단 거리, D:원기둥 직경)에서의 유속 변화에 따른 유력 진동 특성을 조사했다. 그리고 원기둥의 유력 진동 발생 메커니즘을 규명하기 위해 강제 진동 장치로 유력 진동을 정확히 재현한 가시화 실험을 하여 원기둥 주변의 흐름 패턴을 조사했다. 그 결과, 병렬 배열된 2 원기둥 사이의 스위칭 플로우의 변화에 따라 유력 진동 특성도 4 개의 패턴으로 변하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 직렬, 대각선, 병렬 배열된 2 원기둥 중에서 가장 유력 진동이 발생하기 쉬운 배열은 병렬 배열임을 본 연구를 통해 알 수 있었다.

  • The errors caused by developmental finite difference approximations in the two microphone acoustic intensity measurement technique are considered in this paper. The frequencies and pressure responses obtained experimentally, are presented for both face to face (FF) and side by side(SS) microphone configurations. The implications of these results by the use of such a cofiguration for two microphone sound intensity measurement are discussed.

PIV를 이용한 다양한 배열에서 2원주 주위의 유동장 특성 연구 (The Characteristic Investigation of the Flowfield around Two Circular Cylinders in Various Arrangements Using the PIV)

  • 본 연구는 다양한 배열 상태에 놓인 2원주 주위의 유동장 특성을 PIV를 이용하여 파악한 것이다. 직렬배열에서 하류측 원주의 후방에서 측정한 Strouhal 수는 수평 간격비가 클수록 작게 나타났다. 직렬배열에서 2원주 사이의 흐름은 거의 정체되어 있으며, 상류측 원주에 가까울수록 정체 범위가 크게 나타났다. 직렬배열에서 자유류와 2원주의 중심선이 이루는 받음각()의 미소 변화(${\alpha}$=${\pm}1.0^{\circ}$)에 따라 2원주 사이에는 서로 반대 방향의 와류가 생성되었다. 병렬배열에서 수직 간격비가 클수록 2원주 사이의 유속이 크게 나타났다.

두 원기둥의 유동에 기인한 진동 특성에 관한 연구 (Study on Characteristics of Flow-Induced Vibrations of Two Circular Cylinders)

  • 본 연구는 두 원기둥의 유동에 기인한 진동에 관한 실험적 연구이다. 두 원기둥이 직렬 배열(${\alpha}=0^{\circ}$), 대각선 배열(${\alpha}=5^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $25^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$), 병렬 배열(${\alpha}=90^{\circ}$) 됐을 때 두 원기둥의 간격(L/D)과 유속을 변화 시켰을 때의 진동 특성을 조사했다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. (i)직렬, 대각선, 병렬 배열된 두 원기둥에서 발생하는 유동에 기인한 진동의 패턴은 7 개 패턴이다. (ii)복수로 존재하는 두 원기둥의 유동에 기인한 진동은 서로 진동을 유발시킨다. (iii) 두 원기둥의 직렬, 대각선, 병렬 배열 중에 유동에 기인한 진동을 유발하기 가장 쉬운 배열은 병렬 배열이다. (iv) 모든 배열에서 두 원기둥의 간격변화에 따른 최대 진폭의 변화는 변동 양력 계수의 변화와 유사하다.

청주 원도심 내 현존하는 옛마을의 공간구성 변화 - 탑동 '양달말'을 대상으로 - (The Transitional Process of Spatial Configuration of Existing Old Settlements in Cheongju City - with Case Study on Topdong 'Yangdalmal' -)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the transitional process of spatial configuration of 'Topdong Yangdalmal'; One of the existing 22 old settlements in cheongju city. The results are as follows. 1) Side roads are derived from Inner road until 1970, so large-scale lots are subdivided small-scale lots. The houses are mostly in 1970s and 1980s. The existing old houses are 11, their orientation are East South, and the entrance gives on side road. The orientation, court yard, and entrance of the houses nearby side roads keep ongoing, in spite of alteration and extension. Especially, Entrance is changed by the new arterial roads and subdivided lots, but, the houses nearby side roads are continued as in the past. 2) The newly built houses in 1970's are 20, and it's arrangements are equal to existing old one. The orientation of houses after 1980's is the same in 1970's. But, the entrance is changed by subdivided lots, and the size of the court yard are reduced or disappeared. In other hand, the houses as the same size of the existing houses, and Storyincrease continue court yard as in the past. Therefore, the houses which are nearby inner road, and increase story, are continued, in spite of the newly built one.

병렬 배치된 FLBT 및 LNG-BS에 작용하는 풍하중 및 조류하중에 대한 풍동 시험 및 경험식 비교 연구 (Wind tunnel test of wind loads and current loads acting on FLBT and LNG bunkering shuttles in side-by-side configuration and comparison with empirical formula)

  • In recent years, LNG bunkering terminals are needed to supply LNG as fuel to meet the emission requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). A floating LNG bunkering terminal (FLBT) is one of the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly LNG bunkering systems for storing LNG and transferring it directly to an LNG fuel vessel. The FLBT maintains its position using mooring systems such as spread mooring and turret mooring. The loads on the vessel and mooring lines must be carefully determined to maintain their positions within the operable area. In this study, the wind loads acting in several side-by-side arrangements on the FLBT and LNG-BS were estimated using wind tunnel tests in the Force Technology, and the shielding effect due to the presence of ships upstream was evaluated. In addition, the empirical formulations proposed by Fujiwara et al. (2012) were used to estimate the wind force coefficients acting on the FLBT and those results were compared with experimental results.

확대모형 열교환기를 이용한 공기측 열전달 성능에 관한 연구 (A Study on Beat Transfer Characteristics in the Air Side of Large-scaled Heat Exchanger)

  • This study is performed to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of heat exchanger according to the arrangement of fins as well as fin configuration by using the four times enlarged model. Friction factor, Colburn j factor and goodness factors are compared to each other to estimate performance of each case for 4 different kinds of fins, which are plain, single side slit, double side slit and louver fin. Results show that heat transfer would be altered by fin arrangement and that friction loss is more affected by fin configurations than by the fin arrangements. In particular, heat transfer depends more on the shape of front row than that of rear row. The heat transfer rate of combined fin arrangement increases a lot more under the same pressure drop than that of conventional fin arrangement. This indicates that the heat exchanger of higher efficiency would be designed by the proper combination of fins, of different shapes.
