The SUV has a risk of rollover because of the highness of center of mass. In this paper the roll-behavior of a SUV in turning motion is analyzed. Dynamic model of the vehicle on the slope is developed and simulation is carried out using the software ADAMS/Car. The results show that the relational expression between the ground force acting on the tire and the roll motion is well established. It is also identified that the driving state of the vehicle becomes unstable at the lower or upper position of the slope.

In order to improve stability and controllability of SUV vehicle, Integrated Dynamics Control system with Steering system (IDCS) was developed. Eight degree of freedom vehicle model and front and rear steering system model were used to design IDCS system. It also employs Fuzzy logic control method to design integrate control system. The performance of IDCS was evaluated with two road conditions and several driving conditions. The result shows that SUV vehicle with IDCS tracked the reference yaw rate under all tested conditions. IDCS reduced the body slip angle also. It represents IDCS improves vehicle stability and steerability.

Among the variable-speed AC motor drive systems, the static slip power recovery system has been widely adopted in large power drives because a high efficiency drive can be obtained by recovering the slip power to the AC line. Although many improvements have been made in this system, several problems also remain such as the need of transformer in inverter AC side, which results in limiting speed control range and increasing the losses, production of reactive power by the control of inverter firing angle, harmonics in line currents, and so on. This paper presents the novel high performance slip power recovery system using the boost converter and small size filter in the rotor circuit, which recovers slip power of a wound rotor induction machine to AC supply efficiently with the aid of the boost converter, in which most of the problems in conventional system can be solved. The speed can be controlled by the duty ratio of the converter switch, not by inverter firing angle. As a results, the proposed system can operate in high power factor and the harmonic currents caused by the inverter and rectifier can be considerably suppressed. The validity of the proposed system verified by demonstrating the good agreement in the simulation and experimental results.
This paper deals with the slip power recovery system using switch mode converter in the inverter DC side, which recovers slip power of induction machine to AC line with the aid of the boost converter. As a results, the motor speed can be controlled by the duty ratio of boost switch, not by inverter firing angle. This results that the reactive power produced by phase controlled inverter and diode rectifier can be greatly reduced and linear speed regulation can be obtained. Moreover, the harmonic components of line current caused by the commutation in inverter and rectifier can be considerably suppressed. Therefore, most of the problems in conventional system can be solved.

Information of the lateral velocity and the sideslip angle in a vehicle is very useful in many active vehicle safety applications such as yaw stability control and rollover prevention. Because cost-effective sensors to measure the lateral velocity and the sideslip angle are not available, reliable algorithms to estimation them are necessary. In this paper, a sliding mode observer is designed to estimate the lateral velocity. The side slip angle is estimated using the recursive least square with the disturbance observer and the pseudo integral. The estimated parameters from the combined estimation method are updated recursively to minimize the discrepancy between the model and the physical plant, and any possible effects caused by disturbances. The performance of the proposed monitoring system is evaluated through simulations and experiments.

In cargo-working, it unavoidably happens that the quay crane slip along the rail and the container move from side to side. Especially, they involve a lot of risk in bad weather. The rail clamp is a mooring device to prevent that the quay crane slips along the rail due to bad weather or the wind blast while the quay crane do the cargo-working And it will play a greater role in port container terminal integration and automation To design the wedge type rail clamp, it is very important to determine the wedge angle. In this study, we expect that the design wind speed of the quay crane will change over 16m/s. Assuming that the design wind speed is 40m/s, we determined the proper wedge angle of the wedge type rail clamp for the 50ton class quay crane.

In this paper deals with a unique method for measuring vehicle states such as body sideslip angle and tire sideslip angle using GPS velocity information in conjunction with other sensors. A method for integrating Inertial Navigation System (INS) sensors with GPS measurements to provide higher update rate estimates of the vehicle states is presented, and the method can be used to estimate the tire cornering stiffness. The experimental results for the GPS velocity-based sideslip angle measurement and cornering stiffness estimates are compared with the theoretical predictions. From the experimental results, it can be concluded that the proposed method has an advantage for future implementation in a vehicle safety system.

An integrated front steering system and front brake system (FSFB) is developed to improve the stability and controllability of an SUV. The FSFB simultaneously controls the additional steering angle and front brake pressure. An active front steering system (AFS) and an active front brake system (AFB) are designed for comparison. The results show that the FSFB enhances the lateral stability and controllability regardless of road and running conditions compared to the AFS and AFB. As a result, the yaw rate of the SUV tracks the reference yaw rate, and the side slip angle decreases. In addition, brake pressure control is more effective than steering angle control in improving the stability and steerability of the SUV on a slippery road. However, this deteriorates comfort on dry or wet asphalt.

The aerodynamic coefficients of Apollo capsule are calculated using a DSMC solver, SMILE, and the results agree very well with the data predicted by NASA. The aerodynamic characteristics of an orbital block which operates at high altitudes in the free molecule regime are also predicted. For the nominal flow conditions, the predicted aerodynamic force is very small since the dynamic pressure is extremely low. And the additional aerodynamic coefficients for the analysis of the attitude control are presented as the angle of attack and the side slip angle vary from $+45^{\circ}\;to\;-45^{\circ}$ of the nominal angle.

Recently, four-wheel steering systems have been developed and studied as one of the latest automotive technologies for improving the handling characteristics of a vehicle. In much of the proposed four-wheel steering systems, the side slip angle at the vehicle's center of gravity is maintained at zero. This approach allows the greater maneuverability at low speed by means of counter-phase rear steering and the improved stability at high speed through same-phase rear steering. In this paper, the effects of several four-wheel steering systems are studied and discussed on the responsiveness and stability of the vehicle by using the linear analysis. Especially, the effects of the cornering stiffnesses of both front and rear wheels are investigated on the yaw velocity gain and critical speed of the vehicle.
